Sons of the Stage are playing that same night. Report on some *real* music...

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 6:42 AM

"Verve blows! Stop hyping this crap."

How is this hyping? It's a reunion tour so there has to be some excitement regardless of whether they're boring or not.

Posted by Eric | February 27, 2008 7:24 AM

Well, count me excited, I'll be hitting the WaMu one of those nights.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 8:49 AM

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 9:06 AM

The Drugs dont work was one of the finest songs of the 90s???

WHO ARE YOU! Are you one of those loser hipsters that listens to cds once before disposing them? Have you heard that song! SUCKS!!! I'd rather listen to Oasis, and they suck too!

Daft Punk for Prez!

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 9:13 AM

Live Forever was a good song too! 50 bucks is worth it!

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 9:15 AM

assface, live forever was Oasis! I feel like its 1997 again! ugh...

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 9:17 AM

Can we go back to talking about Juno? The Verve is lame and old. who really cares?

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 9:22 AM

wait is this a PerezHilton thread?

Posted by d.paul | February 27, 2008 9:33 AM

i'm torn. the verve around storm in heaven and the b-sides record were great. was not a fan of the poppier stuff they did later on like 'drugs don't work', etc. but, nick mccabe is now back on guitar and that dude is phenomenal. the first few shows had some really amazing tracks played (ie 'gravity grave'), but i would have to sit through a bunch of crappy Ashcroft schmaltz as well. will probably go to one.

Posted by jeff | February 27, 2008 9:34 AM

That magazine cover looks like a terrifying Newport ad.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 9:36 AM

I love that some people on this board don't get even the most obvious jokes.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 9:50 AM

"A Man Called Sun" was great.

Posted by drewo | February 27, 2008 10:00 AM

stop taking the bait, kids.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 10:13 AM

anyone know if Peter Tong is back or is he still in Blur?

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 10:15 AM

no..Simon Tong is not in the group this time..its just the four of them..saw them in the UK on the reunion tour and they were amazing..hoping they aren't biting off more then they can chew with $50 ticket prices and multiple nights at the Wamu

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 10:24 AM

I'm really tired of pimple-faced rich hipster kids who are totally ignorant of 90s shoegaze music criticizing it. Just because you were all lame and listened to n'sync, new kids, mariah carey or whatnot when the Verve were around doesn't mean they still aren't a great band. We all know you'd much rather go to another Justice show because somehow you made the transition from N'Sync to Justice, Daft Punk and Dirty Projectors but don't knock successful shoegaze 90s bands like the Verve just because they finally earned some success.

Posted by Shoegazer | February 27, 2008 10:29 AM

And another thing, the Verve were together for almost ten years. They put out a diverse array of music in that time, so it is silly to criticize them for earning some commercial success with the semi-poppy Urban Hymns record. This music on that album was not only well produced, creative and accessible, but it was also sincere. Very few bands understand the value in that equation anymore. sooo, all you hipster kids... go back to your Justice playlists and don't comment about shite you were too lame to get into when the Verve were at their creative peak because you were teeny-bobbers listening to shite music back then.

Posted by Shoegazer | February 27, 2008 10:33 AM

I think everybody should maybe just cool out maybe

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 10:36 AM

it's worth the $50 just to hear Champagne Supernova! i can't wait!

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 10:37 AM

Verve wasnt shoegaze chewey. They wrote wonderwall.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 10:39 AM

Does he have Marfan Syndrome, too?

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 10:39 AM

im with shoegazer...verve was great...

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 10:59 AM

the verve had their moments...some good songs and some fleeting glimpses of greatness.
but as far as "shoegazer bands" go, they weren't at the top of the heap.
that distinction must be given to swervedriver.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 11:14 AM

Sons of the Stage are Rubbish. Long live CommGuru!

Posted by Tony the Drummer | February 27, 2008 11:39 AM

holy christ kids, learn your music.

Posted by belinda | February 27, 2008 1:47 PM

Ashcroft's son is Bradford Cox from Deerhunter.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 2:04 PM

This really isn't that important, but is Ashcroft married to the girl that used to be in Spiritualized? Ok, bye.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 2:33 PM

i liked their album, Definitely Maybe. but that's it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2008 2:57 PM

Actually, Cast No Shadow was inspired by Ashcroft...

Pre Urban Hymns Verve (non Vervecroft) were excellent! ...The Sun, The Sea, Slide Away, Gravity Grave, She's a Superstar, Already There, A New Decade, This is Music, Let the Damage Begin, On Your Own, All in the Mind, etc...amazing!

Plus, the boys from Radiohead reference the Verve as an influence.

I've seen the Verve many times, and their shows rank as some of the best I've seen. Not sure what to expect in April though.

Posted by sj | February 27, 2008 6:33 PM

right on shoegazer. They were probably at the 98 degrees concert the last time you saw the verve.

Posted by velvet morning | March 1, 2008 8:53 PM

I think The Verve's best song is Rock-N-Roll star! Best song evaaaah!

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 1:18 PM

tickets are now half price for the verve shows - $20 and $25. guess they didn't sell like hotcakes!
