UNCLE? That sucks.

unkle was horrible and not really a group anyway...tim from dfa was in unkle originally...then dj shadow...then a bunch of other people no one knows.

lavelle is a decent marketer but no musician...

Yeah, unkle broke up when shadow left as far as most are concerned.

I know that UNKLE hasn't really been UNKLE for years but what was UNKLE was still making alright music I thought.

Why always so much hate on UNKLE. Their last CD (War Stories) was amazing, they were amazing when I saw them live this year too. Anyway, Rich has been a member of the band for a long time now, but it's true that James was always the head of the band.

UNKLE's first release, was by far, the best. "Psyence Fiction" had the most interesting vocalists (Thom Yorke, Mike D, Badly Drawn Boy, etc.) and the influence of DJ Shadow (who was also in his heyday), made it one of the better releases of the late 90's.

I thought UNKLE's 2nd release, "Never, Never Land" was formulaic and uninspired.

However, I absolutely love last year's "War Stories". Sure the trip hop sound is completely gone, but in its place are some beautifully crafted songs. "Burn My Shadow", sung by Ian Asbury is a great track with a very interesting video. "Mayday" featuring the Duke Spirit is probably my favorite. I also really like the 2 songs performed by Gavin Clark.

"War Stories" is definitely worth checking out.

war stories is amazing.

Never Never Land is the best fucking album ever, in my opinion. I've never heard anything that mixes sampling, synthesizers and instruments so perfectly.

Does anyone know when Rich File's new album is released?

I saw UNKLE last year at The Roundhouse - the acoustics were awesome! In A State was quite possibly the best performance i've ever seen and i'm gutted they've split up... Badly Drawn Boy's appearance at Brixton Academy along with Ian Brown was another hi-light for me. I don't understand why we never hear UNKLE on the radio, it's one of life's mysteries...

UNKLE's output has changed in the last few years but what they're making now is brilliant. War Stories was amazing and all the follow up material has complemented it fantastically.

Of course, like every fan, I would like to hear what the Lavelle/Shadow pairing could do these days, but DJ Shadow is working on a new album and James Lavelle is making a new UNKLE album with the same people he's been with for a while.

Lavelle and Massive Attack's 3D are still pretty chummy though, so I hold out hopes that there'll be more collaborative work there.
