"Califone/Fugazi @ The Kitchen"

Please don't do that to me ever again, BV. My heart jumped into my throat there for a moment.

i was amped for yeasayer, and they did not meet my expectations at all...i hope they bring a lil more to philly on friday.

...but mgmt was a pleasent surprise. great showing.

That's actually a little surprising, 8:39, but it's obviously all about what you heard yourself. I dug Yeasayer's set pretty hard. I can't remember the last time I saw a band play with such a feel for their own music, and enthusiasm, and even a sense of knowing how good they already are. I say "already" because I hope and think these guys stick around around for a bit. Sound is too unique to anything out there to fade off quickly (at least in my mind).

Not to mention, when's the last time you saw a guitarist headbob creep his way around stage like that??

what time did yeasayer(i mean daft punk) come on?

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 9:18 AM

The Monks that opened at the Tibet show only played stuff off their new album...pretty disappointing. Rest of the concert was pretty money though.

what time did yeasayer(i mean daft punk) come on?

10:05 and I left by 10:20..just horrible!

how were the aquabats?

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 9:53 AM

I have to say that it was a really terrible crowd there last night. some truly miserable human beings. it was a bit of a mistake i think having yeasayer "open" for mgmt since the college crowd turned out pretty strong for mgmt. some of them left during yeasayer as they are a bit more dynamic, and for the uninitiated, challenging band. those who remained were drunk and obnoxious (i'm looking at you courtney love look alike yelling to all your friends how much you are going to dance, talking the whole time and calling people f*ggots).
as far as mgmt goes, they were better than i thought they'd be but paled in comparison to yeasayer. mgmt don't overcome what they are - kids. slightly uncomfortable, and possibly brilliant, but kids. (and i loved how the drunk crowd went nuts for fated to pretend like it was a party anthem song when its pointing fun at the emptiness of it)
