Ask anyone in a band and they'll tell you, we depend often on the generosity of strangers. When we get into town late at night, it's often your house we stay at. When we need a place to to do laundry, it's often your cellar that we turn into a laundromat. Where do we eat? Who can we meet? Who will buy our records, come to our shows, and keep gas in the tank? None of these things would ever happen without your help and support--and we continue to be very humbled by this exchange. We can't wait to come to your towns and meet all of you, but to borrow a famous cliche, "no man is an island."
Some of you have asked what you can do to help us, so we've set up a donation fund where you can help us relieve the costs of getting everything back. We're hoping to be able to pull things together for the start of tour next week, and any help you can give would be much appreciated.

P.S. there is some good news--we were recently featured on NPR's Bryant Park, where we did a brief interview and played a few songs off of the record. Listen to it here.
STOLEN GEAR!White Hinterland is scheduled to tour with Taken By Trees.
Hello friends,Last evening, our drummer's van was broken into while staying in Manhattan. Among the thieves' loot are a casio sk-1, his entire drum set except for cymbals & snare, hardware, our bass amp, his air mattress (cheap!) etc. I will post an official list of what's missing--if any of you see any of these things on craigslist or the like in the next few days, please let us know.
As many of you know, this is an unfortunately common story amongst bands on the road. It sucks, and really puts a damper on a job that's often already financially challenging without criminal events. If you see anything, please e-mail meyerdrums@hotmail.com or info@whitehinterland.com --no questions asked, we're just looking to see those items returned.

bummer. sick people.

why wouldn't they have insurance?
seems like such a simple and inexpensive thing.
sure, it's awful they were violated and set back,
but they're somewhat ignorant and naive to go
on tour without any sort of instrument insurance.

Who?!?

When I was on tour, my band paid a midget to sleep in the tour van and protect our gear. Try a midget next time! They need the work!

how cute that they want us to help replace the instruments their parents bought them.

They took the Timberland workboots!?! Aww...shit!

As somebody who actually know someone in this band, I can guarantee that this was not equipment that "their parents bought them", and they have nowhere near enough money to insure their gear. Shit is expensive.

Those thievin gypsies are gonna be pretty pissed when they try to fence that SK-1 and can only get $20 for it.

The metronome was stolen...
I think it was Meg White.

that sucks, but you know, for $150/year you can get instrument/computer insurance through music pro insurance covering ALL that shit (my band has $20,000 worth of coverage). if a pre-amp falls out of your car, they'll cover it. musicians should start taking more time to insure their shit instead of complaining when thieves do what thieves always do.

i also know the band personally, and they definetely didn't buy their instruments with their parents' money, in fact--they've spent nothing but their own money to record and tour. regardless, if they're uninsured/insured, wildly wealthy, or broke as a joke, does that make it okay for someone to have stolen their instruments? they're not looking to recover just an sk-1 and a metronome--they are also trying to replace in 1 week hardware, a bass amp, toms, bass drum, etc. point is that those things add up. it's totally childish to come on here and whine about how they should have had insurance, etc.

you got bad karma followiing your band around
Posted by lahipster | February 17, 2008 10:11 PM
When God closes a door, he opens a window. Have white Hinterland considered financial services or barista professions?
Posted by Anonymous | February 18, 2008 9:55 AM
what is with all the pretentious snobby attitudes. so what if it wasn't your shit that got stolen, their band still needs to perform each night.
i'd be glad to help in any way. i've been a big fan of casey, and it's more my loss as a fan than hers. i hope you get your stuff back soon.
