Yeasayer played Bowery Ballroom, playing Conan O'Brien, touring with Man Man (dates)
DOWNLOAD: Yeasayer - 2080 (MP3)

Hello Everyone.Last night's show at Bowery Ballroom (Feb 13, 2008) confirmed what I already thought: I don't like MGMT, but Yeasayer are amazing/awesome/insert-one-word-that-means-I-think-they-are-really-great-live-here. The synced-up, psychedelic visuals Yeasayer were projecting on to the wall behind them were done really well too. Overall you could tell the band had just been playing every night for a month. They were better/tighter than ever, there was a lot to look at, and Bowery Ballroom was a great fit for their big sound.YEASAYER's first US tour w/ MGMT is finally winding down with one last sold out show in NYC and another sold out show in Philly. Thanks for all the support across the land and expect to see Yeasayer possibly in your area in April/May when they head out w/ Man Man. Promises to be a ball of thunder!
We do have another exciting announcement. YEASAYER will be performing on CONAN O'BRIEN this Friday,
MarchFebruary 15th! So make sure you are tuned in at around 1am for the one song set!Again, thank you so much for the support and love. It fuels our mission.

I have to say that it was a really terrible crowd there last night. some truly miserable human beings. it was a bit of a mistake i think having yeasayer "open" for mgmt since the college crowd turned out pretty strong for mgmt. some of them left during yeasayer as they are a bit more dynamic, and for the uninitiated, challenging band. those who remained were drunk and obnoxious (i'm looking at you courtney love look alike yelling to all your friends how much you are going to dance, talking the whole time and calling people f*ggots).
as far as mgmt goes, they were better than i thought they'd be but paled in comparison to yeasayer who were in a word, powerful. mgmt don't overcome what they are - kids. slightly uncomfortable, and possibly brilliant, but kids. (and i loved how the drunk crowd went nuts for fated to pretend like it was a party anthem song when its pointing fun at the emptiness of it)

I agree completely. Yeasayer were the obvious highlight. Might have to travel for those Man Man dates.

The show totally sucked! Yeasayer made me feel like I was at a fucking Phish concert. Didn't even stay for MGMT because Yeasayer was so annoying. We weren't alone when we left. Quite a few others followed.

it was totally like a phish show, i made a few hundred dollars selling grill cheeses and hits of nitrous outside of the club. what the fuck, only a buck.
Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 2:05 PM
i wish people like anon 1:55 would stop buying tickets to shows. especially ones that sell out. someone who actually appreciates the music could be there in your place.

While I can't deny the fact that every commenter/reviewer's opinion is their own, and they are entitled to it, when did these comment boards become about commenting nearly exclusively on the crowd? If you can't get past worrying about who's standing around you, you're better off staying at home with your headphones and listening to it that way. If you're there to judge the folks around you, it makes me believe you're also one of the crowd that was too nervous to get within ten feet of the stage for Violens simply because no one else was.
Ryan Adams (who draws more what folks would call "frat" crowds than most) said it best in an article: everyone goes to a show for something they need. Be it to get fucked up, or for a good musical experience. So what if those kids think "Time to Pretened" (note: song title)is an anthem? How is that affecting you? Not to mention, when you get back from hanging out with MGMT today, after asking them what the song means, only then will you be allowed to state what they meant by the song.
Reading peoples' bitching about shows on this site is beginning to act as a more powerful negative force than the folks THEY'RE talking about AT the show.

Yawn......a year from now...Yeasayer who?
Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 2:29 PM
yeasayer is an extremely poor man's animal collective

StopCrying-
Are you seriously going to tell me that you haven't had what could have been a great show ruined by the crowd around you?
Because that is bullshit.
Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 2:32 PM
I'm saying that should I be surrounded by people that could or are ruining a show, I move my goddamned feet to another part of that crowd. Is it that hard?
Because that is bullshit.

Brooklyn Vegan sure loves to hype this band. Must be a hippie at heart.

Sounds like you guys were standing next to each other.
Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 2:51 PM
yeasayer rules! mgmt drools! ....seriously.

Man Man and Yeasayer together are the perfect touring partners. Sure Oracular Spectacular is a good listen, but you can't put MGMT on the same level as Yeasayer live. Now Man Man on the other hand...

Both bands were good, but neither met my expectations last night. I don't think the quality of the music they make is that different. Obviously Yeasayer is the band with the hipster appeal. Therefore more people here will praise Yeasayer and trash MGMT.
I like going to shows like this where two very different and good bands play back to back. It's fun to see the people, who aren't able to listen to music without biases, bitch about the band they did not like.

will the fat dude from man man be at the shows?
Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 3:17 PM
"will the fat dude from man man be at the shows?"
He is not from Man Man. He has nothing to do with the music or the band. He is a fucking moron. Please do not talk about this idiot anymore,

MGMT may be worse musicians, but their songs are so much better than Yeasayer's.
Yeasayer's songs are a bit repetitive and hippie-ish. Great musicianship, but in the end, who cares?
Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 3:24 PM
i will say that there were some incredibly hot women (and cute college girls) there last night

I went for Yeasayer and thought they were great, it was my first time seeing them live and was definitely not disappointed.
And yeah it might be stupid to let how the people around you are acting effect how good of a time your having but unfortunately I was standing right next to the obnoxious drunk assholes who badgered me through out half of the show.
And it was stupid how no one was close to the stage for Violens, I was one of the two people up there. :|

i hate when me and my bros go hang and hit on drunk skanks and have to get bothered by shitty bands trying to harsh my buzz.

yeasayer is the next clap your hands say yeah
Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2008 6:05 PM
One time at a show a guy elbowed me in the eye and then again later in the mouth. The black eye and split lip ACTUALLY DID AFFECT my enjoyment of a show. I guess the other people in the crowd aren't hallucinations after all.
Hey Brooklyn Vegan, turn off anonymous commenting so people at least have to pick nicknames. It would be funnier.
Posted by anon | February 14, 2008 6:15 PM
"yeasayer is the next clap your hands say yeah"
I disagree. But I do think MGMT is the next Sound Team.

"People who are overweight: No one wants to see your enthusiasm. Enough with the enjoying stuff already."
Has nothing to do with him being fat. Has everything to do with him being an idiot and having nothing to do with the band or it's music but injecting himself into the show. I enjoy myself immensely at shows without having to resort to that.
"Reactions like this are priceless, douche."
Not as priceless as the idiot comments that cause the reactions, shithead.
