I like her music, but aside from Jack Johnson, she is the most boring live performer I have ever seen in my whole life.

is it possible to be more boring that Jack?

I had the pleasure of seeing Beth Orton in Giants Stadium when she played field day back in 2003. I was on the opposit end zone too so not only was she boing but she looked like a blurry dot!

I saw her live about ten years ago at Summerstage. (wow, has it been that long?) Boring.

Beth is great live. She has a cool personality and I always have fun at her shows.

well at least someone didn't find her boring. Good for you Loop. I hope the audience is full of likeminded people.
I do like her music, but damn, I could've taken a nap during the show. I saw her at the Vanderbilt (a venue on Long Island which is now an OTB betting Palace), and it was setup really nice. Candlelit tables and food. Excellent atmosphere. Awful show.

And Yes, it is possible to be more boring than Jack Johnson, but it is very difficult. I have no idea how that guy is going to headline a festival. Everyone will go to sleep. I can see his music connecting with an audience in a small room, or a really cool BBQ on the beach with all of his surfing buddies in Hawaii. But in a sea of people at a huge festival, his music will just disappear into the vastness of it all.

Seen Beth quite a few times not boring at all, guess I don't need someone jumping around to be entertained. Great voice, great songs and a joke or two is enough for me. Then what do you expect I'm from the world of prog and folk. :)

"Beth is great live. She has a cool personality and I always have fun at her shows. "

her personality is probably cool compared to yours. have fun!

She's no Vampire Weekend.

i have to say Cat Power has to be one of the most boring artists out...she had the whole Garden asleep by the time Interpol came out...people that boring should be kept in small, intimate venues not big arenas...so Orton at Hiro & Music Hall should be good gigs...now that Jack Johnson thing....(((yawn))) got my tickets for Fri & Sat though....Radiohead's not putting my ass to sleep!

"i have to say Cat Power has to be one of the most boring artists out"

Cat Power can be inconsistent (especially a couple years ago), but I've seen shows where she's been absolutely mesmerizing. I probably wouldn't want to see her at MSG, though.

I feel dead asleep at a lightning bolt show, so BORING!

i saw her at field day fest also, i enjoyed the show. i love her voice. but, why are people calling her shows boring? aren't you attending her shows to hear her? beth orton isn't someone to have a "jumping" show, listen to her songs, they are soothing, yet depression, but nonetheless soothing. she is a great talent, and for those to say otherwise; i love to see you bicker about the culture/art/life style in nyc and brooklyn, and how it's not the same and how it makes you upset. yet, the only thing you pathetic bastards do; complain on brooklyn-vegan. eventhough the people who run brooklyn-vegan like it so they can gain more attention from bloggers, which will give brooklyn vegan a wider audience...or something like that.

Which is the better venue to see Beth Orton in, Hiro Ballroom or MHoW?

Posted by Anonymous | March 14, 2008 9:50 PM

kurt c: to say that beth is more boring live than jack johnson is to say that you have actually seen jack johnson perform.

and boring? get over it. there are lots of so-called boring things out there that may be good for you: fassbinder, messiaen, dylan's john wesley harding, tofu, etc.

anon 9:50: hiro is the more scenic venue (stunning) but the music hall has better sight lines and better sound system.

I got free tickets to see Jack Johnson at Neptune's in the Hamptons, so Yes, I have seen him live.
He was almost not boring when G. Love came on stage with him.

Posted by Kurt C. | March 14, 2008 11:48 PM

i saw Jack at Neptune's too! And it wasn't free for me, I paid because I enjoy his music. GET OVER IT PEOPLE.
