Chicago's Metro ditches Ticketmaster

We just learned that tickets to ALL Metro and Smart Bar shows are only available through their websites, or the Metro Box Office. There will still be service fees for tickets bought online, though we believe they will be much reduced due to Metro handling all sales internally, and there is still never a service fee for tickets bought at the Box Office.(thx Jason)What does this mean? Ticketmaster has just lost one of the venues it's had long-standing relations with. We asked Metro spokesperson Jenny Lizak for the reason behind the switch and she said, "Basically, we're responding to customer requests and technological advances that have occurred over the years, and this change is going to help us simplify the buying process and bring customers an affordable ticketing solution." Eh, not that they were TM venues, but Great American Music Hall and its sister venue Slim's have been selling their own tickets online for awhile, now.

St Anns Warehouse sells their own tickets on internet. with minimal service charge I think something like 1.50 per ticket. As does BAM as well.

hopefully some NYC venues wise up also.

brownpapertickets.com is the ticketing company to use. Doesnt cost the venue/promoter a thing, and fees for a $20 ticket are like $1.50 for the customer, and tickets are mailed for free.

Oh metro, I was just fondly discussing you with a friend this very evening. What started out as a 'hey Swervedriver is playing again' convo became a 'hey remember seeing them at the metro' convo which became a [insert every other show from back in the day] convo. Good times. Good news. Same please.

don't stop the presses. this is not news, however just got my ticketmaster proffered kate nash tix in the mail. following fees were added-on - facility fee, convenience fee, order processing fee & "restore" fee. Fees accounted for @ one-half of face value - ouch. stings like buying a quart of milk from a 7-11.
