It will be interesting to see what stands the test of time. Will it be the songs? Or the haircuts?
Posted by Matt | March 26, 2008 1:24 PM
Well, at least we know that she knows how to pose.

her arm is FREAKING ME THE FUCK OUT in picture 3.
Heard it was a rad night, looking forward to Mercury Lounge tonight.

i like how there are ZERO pictures of the guy who actually makes/plays all of the music.
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:34 PM
ditto the arm comment
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:35 PM

show was so mega
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:38 PM
how long did they play for?

HEALTH were terrific, as always. That drummer must have been picked out from some death metal band; he's an animal, a machine that assaults the kit with absolute precision.
Singing sucks and there isn't much in terms of actual songs but the performance was ace.
CC sucks; what is the attraction, exactly? (Aside from the beautiful Alice, that is?) I left after the first song, if one can call it that.

That chick looks like Rachel McAdams on heroin. Hot.

What you can't tell from the pics is that it was all out strobe light the entire time. Made it more interesting to watch too, since it's only a singer jumping around, a guy in the back playing all the music on a table, and a drummer playing sixteenths on the high hat. I'm not exactly a convert, but I did like 3 or 4 of their songs. The rest sounded the same. Dance beat + 8-bit like synth + cheerleader/whisper vocals.
Health was very good, but you couldn't see them half the time if you weren't right up front. All their pedals and shit are on the floor. If you're going to Mercury tonight, make sure to get right up front! Also, the sound guy didn't really seem like he knew how to mix a noise band. It should have been MUCH louder!

Studio B was packed to the gills last night. Health played a short set with a lot of prancing about and a reasonably well handled amp swap. Crystal Castles took too long to get on stage, but they were fucking bumping. Biggest cliche, still true: Alice is a million bucks on stage. Mesmerizing.
Left after Alice Practice, though, 'cause we had to work

how long did cc play?
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:59 PM
This looks unbearably annoying. Please, Daft Punk, come back, we need you!
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 2:26 PM
That chic makes me want to do drugs
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 2:33 PM
The sound was mixed pretty odd. CC didn't have the crunchy bite of the recordings. Crowd seemed pushy to me, but maybe that is normal and I'm too old. Also too many people taking photos of themselves making out.
Knowing zero about Health or their style going in, they made the strongest impression.
I'm amazed no-one was killed in line for coatcheck.

I'm the reverse of one of the above comments. HEALTH just puzzle me. Missed most of their set and was fine with that. I can see why CC turn some people off... it is doing something very specific and new, and making no apologies (same for HEALTH). It was a freakout. I wasn't really feeling it until they went on but they completely won me over as a mesmerizing live act.
CC only played 30 or 40 minutes. Pretty good considering Alice still has broken ribs. The guy was hard to see, he set up behind a pillar, maybe he doesn't like the limelight? Anyway I just wish the photographer had taken some shots without flash, these pics make the show look visually uninteresting, and I assure you it was not.

anyone going to see Alice at their afterparty tonight? anyone know where it's at?!! ALICE!!!

HEALTH was good, but they would be better suited playing a smaller, not-danceclub like the merc lounge or the market hotel. Crystal Castles was perfect for that environment though. It looked like something out of an episode for the L word when they came out.

"I can see why CC turn some people off... it is doing something very specific and new, and making no apologies"
Bee rine, are you kidding me? Is your range of musical knowledge only from the last 2 years? Oh yeah they are really breaking new ground here. This is exactly why people hate hipster morons
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 4:38 PM
oh yeah, studio b -- good call on moving the coat check last night
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 4:52 PM
they played sooo short.
Posted by Joe | March 26, 2008 5:10 PM
Very special and new? Come on! Honestly.
Posted by G | March 26, 2008 5:13 PM

it really was a rush for me.cc and health were poppn. I just wish they didnt play a short set and studio b didnt move the coat check.

it's like Karen O fucked the guy from Atlas Sound and had a child.
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 8:45 PM
They could call it Karen Cox.
Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 11:44 PM
Great show, Alice was unusually hot that day.
It might have been my imagination, but did the microphone cord lift up part of her shirt? I was buggen.

better than expected at mercury lounge.
strobe lights made me a little queasy after my fifth drink though.
Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2008 1:16 AM
Crystal Castles was the best band I have seen in years.
Posted by Curt | March 28, 2008 4:52 AM
ugh. you guys are stoked on a lot of bullshit...
electro is so 2002.
even their font is stolen from Glass Candy, not to mention the haircuts and the eye makeup and the leather.
this shit is really really lazy to make.
but every few years, a new generation of snotty college kids eats this sort of thing up. take my advice, the earlier you quit the cocaine, the better.
Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 6:43 AM
did I mention they're fucking CANADIANS Trying to act "dark"? give me motherfucking break.
Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 6:47 AM
I agree with your first comment, but "CANADIANS trying to act 'dark'"? Fuck you, that's irrelevant.
Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 12:26 PM
