They had to do this on a night when there are 1000 other great shows.

"please try not to show up too early"
"First come, first served."
Conflicting statements, don't you think?
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 11:04 AM
It is already SOLD OUT. My friend lives across the street from Sound Fix and says there is already a line as long as the one for Kimya Dawson. From what he can see it is all young Arctic Monkeys fans. It is All Ages after all.
Sorry.

yea that's a load of crap. aren't those kids in school? haha
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 11:16 AM
March 4th is National Parent/Teacher Conference day.
This went into effect last year as part of Bush's No Child Left Behind program.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 11:34 AM
It would be great if they could also do a paid concert so I can avoid this whole FCFS nonsense.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 11:38 AM
they'll probably tour in april/may to support their album, this is just one of those annoying things
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 11:56 AM
how many people does sound fix hold?
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 11:57 AM
"how many people does sound fix hold?"
100 maybe?
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 12:05 PM
yea it's about 100
Posted by Sound Fix | March 4, 2008 12:07 PM
The line already has way more than 100 people on it apparently
You guys are shit out of luck
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 12:13 PM
youre full of shit. There's no one there.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 12:16 PM
who over the age of 14 would line up for the fucking arctic monkeys anyway?? just say NO to crappy UK imports
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 12:24 PM
anyone with a brain, ears and a sense of GREAT music would line up. even the worst british music puts ALL brooklyn (and canadian) bands to shame.
anyone who doesn't recognize the brilliance of alex turner's writing and the arctic monkeys music is brain dead and should have their organs harvested (but not their ears).

I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
[verse]
Stop making the eyes at me,
I'll stop making the eyes at you.
What it is that surprises me is that I don't really you to
And your shoulders are frozen (as cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion but you're dynamite
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
Lightning the fuse might in a bang with a bang-go
[chorus]
I said I bet that you look good on the dance floor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or what
Don't know what you're looking for
Well I bet that you look good on the dance floor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
from 1984!
[verse]
I wish you'd stop ignoring me because you're sending me to despair,
Without a sound yeh you're calling me and I don't think it's very fair
That your shoulders are frozen (as cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (You're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio but I don't care for sand
Lighting the fuse might result in a bang with a bang-go
[chorus]
I said I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or what
I don't know what you're looking for
I said I bet that you look good on the dance floor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984!
WOW!!!! THIS IS SOOOO GREAT!!!! THIS IS SOOOOOOOO BRILLIANT!!!!! YOU ARE SOOOOOO RIGHT!!!!! BRITISH MUSIC REIGNS SUPREME!!!

amazing that a brain dead blog commenter can google song lyrics. YOU'RE brilliant - hipster loser!
you really made your argument! now go listen to clap your hands say yeah or be your own pet or we are scientists or some other ground-breaking band i just know we'll be listening to and talking about in 20 years.
in the people's republic of north amerika (PRNA) you will be outfitted with an ipod that plays only white noise whilst you grow sweet potatoes on long island.
get a life (or a job, or a sense of reality).

sweet potato fries are the fucking jam.
Posted by burp! | March 4, 2008 1:59 PM
this is from a country that brought you Emerson Lake and Palmer...
how dare you insult us, anonymous person you! Im not gonna start naming names but NYC music is far superior to your british shite.

alex turner is going to be at mercury lounge after to perform w/ lightspeed champion for sure!
Posted by Brian | March 4, 2008 2:00 PM
Do you really think we'll be talking about the Artic Monkeys in 20 years? I'm not saying they are bad at all (I enjoy them), but I think you need to get yourself in step my friend.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 2:04 PM
"alex turner is going to be at mercury lounge after to perform w/ lightspeed champion for sure!
Posted by Brian | March 4, 2008 2:00 PM"
Really Brian. That would be something considering Lightspeed Champion is not playing till tomorrow and its an early show. So i am not sure how Turner is going to show up and play with LIghtspeed Champion AFTER the sound fix show tonite
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 2:13 PM
I actually do think people will be talking about Arctic Monkeys in twenty years - they're that sort of Britsh "generation" band - like The Clash, The Jam, The Smiths,i Oasis, Stone Roses, The Kinks - I think they're that important, and you can tell that they're going to get better.
And Alex Turner himself has said Dancefloor is a weak song lyrically. He has far better so that was an unfair lyric to quote.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 2:21 PM
anon 2:00pm...i hate to break it to you but ELP were an abberation. ever heard of the beatles? stones? kinks? clash? and on and on and ON.
british music FAR surpasses almost everything these states have produced (with some major exceptions such as the ramones, pixies and nirvana, to name a few).
grow up.
and anon 2:04pm? yes, mark my words - the world will recognize the brilliance of arctic monkeys if they never make a third album (CD, whatever) and we WILL be talking about them.
alex turner can safely rub shoulders with such songwriting company as ray davies, elvis costello, pete shelley and on and on and ON.
save this blog and show it to your grandkids one day.

Whatever fuckhead, it is still wrong information. He is not playing with Lightspeed Champion
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 2:27 PM
and burp!? sweet potato fries ARE the f'ing jam.
and anon 2:21pm? i couldn'tve said it any better myself (although i tried).
and they will get better. much better.

"amazing that a brain dead blog commenter can google song lyrics. YOU'RE brilliant - hipster loser!

FLAME WAR!!!!
ok buddy...now i'm irritated...mostly by your pompous (british, i'm assuming) tone.
first of all, i get it, you like the artic monkeys...you obviously have poor, generic, media-predetermined taste in music. how many hours a day do you watch mtv?
second of all, i did really make my argument that there is no brilliance in the music of the arctic monkeys. anybody who isn't a "brain dead blog commenter" such as yourself would immediately realize that lyrics such as "And your shoulders are frozen (as cold as the night) / Oh, but you're an explosion but you're dynamite" are utter shit. and, yes, i did google the lyrics since i have a policy of not committing total shit lyrics to memory.
thirdly, i am in no way a hipster or a loser; this is yet another outrageous claim you have made, yet not as outrageous as suggesting "even the worst british music puts ALL brooklyn (and canadian) bands to shame". congrats! you have shown you are a total moron.
i think my favorite part of your pathetic argument(?) is where you suggest that i listen to clap your hands say yeah, be your own pet, and/or we are scientists. i can say with total honesty that i not only do not listen to these overhyped "buzz" abominations, but actually lump them in to the same crap heap as your beloved arctic monkeys.
i think the bottom line is that i have good taste in music, and you listen to whatever bullocks (from the US or UK) that BBC3 instructs you to like.
in conclusion, i would prefer sweet potatoes and white noise to the mind-dulling shit that masquerades as the music of the arctic monkeys.
ps...if you respond, please do your best to post something at least semi-intelligent. as it is, i kinda just feel bad for you.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 2:40 PM
But nobody is claiming that the lyrics to Dancefloor are anything other than "utter shite" - it's immediate and catchy and so was a good of first single for them (the band aren't overly fond of it though and always play it early in their set). If you're going to start dissecting his lyrics, start with A Certain Romance - heartfelt, touching and wise.
I'm not from the UK or America, by the way, and don't watch MTV or BBC3, nor am I a fan of WAS or BYOP. But I have decided that Arctic Monkeys are a special band...
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 2:52 PM
well well well...let's revisit your first comment then, chairman...
"anyone with a brain, ears and a sense of GREAT music would line up. even the worst british music puts ALL brooklyn (and canadian) bands to shame.
anyone who doesn't recognize the brilliance of alex turner's writing and the arctic monkeys music is brain dead and should have their organs harvested (but not their ears)."
seems to be a bit of a departure from "But nobody is claiming that the lyrics to Dancefloor are anything other than 'utter shite' "???
but here's the $64,000 question...using what logic have you "decided that Arctic Monkeys are a special band" ?? i have some ideas, but i will let you answer first.
also, lyrical deconstruction of "a certain romance" coming soon...
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 3:06 PM
"If you're going to start dissecting his lyrics, start with A Certain Romance - heartfelt, touching and wise."
A Certain Romance
Well oh they might wear classic Reeboks
Or knackered Converse
Or tracky bottoms tucked in socks
But all of that's what the point is not
The points thats there ain't no romance around there
And there's the truth that they can't see
They'd probably like to throw a punch at me
And if you could only see them, then you would agree
Agree that there ain't no romance around there
You know, oh it's a funny thing you know
We'll tell 'em if you like
We'll tell 'em all tonight
They'll never listen
Because their minds are made up
And course it's all okay to carry on that way
And over there there's broken bones
There's only music, so that there's new ringtones
And it don't take no Sherlock Holmes
To see it's a little different around here
Don't get me wrong, oh there's boys in bands
And kids who like to scrap with pool cues in their hands
And that's just cause he's had a coupla cans
He thinks it's alright to act like a dickhead
Don't you know, oh it's a funny thing you know
We'll tell em if you like
We'll tell em all tonight
They'll never listen
Because their minds are made up
And course it's all okay to carry on that way
But I said no!
Oh no!
Well, you won't get me to go!
Not anywhere, don't even dare
Cause I won't go
Oh no, no!
Well over there there's friends of mine
What can I say, I've known 'em for a long long time
And they might overstep the line
But you just cannot get angry in the same way
No not in the same way
So not in the same way
Oh no, oh no no
friend, you've really got to be kidding me. do they have any good songs??

THE SHOW TONITE IS OFFICIALLY SOLD OUT
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 3:26 PM
I didn't say that, my only comments were at 2.21 and 2.52.
I think A Certain Romance is a really great song. Someone more eloquent than me said:
"A Certain Romance is an insightful, oddly moving dissection of the chav phenomenon. It keeps spitting bile at a culture where "there's only music so there's new ringtones", then retracting it a few lines later - "of course, it's all OK to carry on that way" - as if the narrator is torn between contempt and class solidarity. Eventually, the latter wins out: "Over there, there's friends of mine, what can I say, I've known them for a long time," he sings. "You just cannot get angry in the same way." It certainly beats guffawing at chavscum.com."
Try 505, Do Me A Favour or Too Much Too Ask - if they do nothing for you, maybe just give up on them.
I don't care if you don't like them, but there's no need to be condescending about those who do, the band appeal to a lot more than MTV-listening, WAS fans.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 3:34 PM
this is a good song lyric:
"this is what you want, this is what you get"
repeat x 100
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 3:35 PM
i win!
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 3:39 PM
wow.....in my wildest, arse hole filled, dreams i never would have imagined that someone so ignorant as to slag off Arctic Monkeys would ever start with Alex's song writing.Im sorry, its just not on. He is as so many "main stream" newspapers ect call him "the song writer of a generation" beacuse not only did he encapture everything modern day life was like for our generation (fair enough,in the uk) but then moved on so much in "favourite worst nightmare" that it is impossible to "dis" ,as you cool americans say ,his incredible talent for writing the most brilliant songs.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 4:53 PM
please buddy...he takes fairly obvious observations and makes them into 2 minute songs...anybody with a laptop and half a brain could do the same thing.
and as for the press, what record label are they on? one with deep pockets, i'm sure.
i'm sorry, but the brits are just way too high on their own shit. the people of the UK voted oasis asa more influential band than the beatles. knowing this, i think we have all we need to know about british music culture.
don't get me wrong, many UK bands are among my favorites and history's best, but i think that this is part of my problem with the arctic monkeys: how could the people of a country with such a great and innovative musical tradition be so enamored with such utter shit as the arctic monkeys?
at some point in the UK, the bar was lowered (very low)...just because this generation has no john and paul doesn't mean we have to manufacture one.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 5:09 PM
They're on Domino, an independent label.
It's fair enough if you don't like them, but you're going way overboard with the criticism. It's ridiculous to say anyone could write his songs - they clearly couldn't. Again, I'm not British, I don't believe Oasis are more influential- and yet I rate them a lot.
On the first record, he made "fairly obvious observations", but did so in a witty, warm way. His songwriting moved on by FWN, his lyrics these days are less obvious, the subject matter is no longer social observations.
He has the ability to write intelligently, without ever veering into pretension.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 5:19 PM
Correction
*don't believe Oasis are more influential than the Beatles
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 5:21 PM
Dude, if we're going overboard with the criticism, theres a whole lot of you who are going overboard with the praise.
Artic Monkeys are better than a lot of the other shit out there tonight, but stop talking like this band will remain and become more relevant over the next 20 years.
Seriously, what are you smoking?
Posted by mike | March 4, 2008 5:40 PM
It's hard to have an arguement about this now, let's see what happens in 20 years time - I think they have a good chance. Early reports about this new album have been very positive and it's to be admired that he's releasing so much new material and also that he's trying out new musical styles.
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 6:00 PM
she loves you yeah yeah yeah
she loves you yeah yeah yeah
with a love like that
you know you should be glad
just words?
Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2008 9:51 PM
sometimes it's the way they're sung.
talk about the passion.
the guy who keeps dismissing the arctic monkeys as shit is so vociferous it is like the gay basher who secretly harbors homosexual tendencies.
he doth protest too much.

You know I know Vampire Weekend guys are douchbags? Last night, they cut everyone in line.....there were probably not more than 100 people there and everyone was going to get in but they couldn't wait 5 seconds to get in....columbia hipsters
they suck
on the other hand, alex's voice just keeps getting better with each release....I think people who think Arctic Monkeys is a joke might really like this new project that he's got going on.
keep up the good work alex....your band will be remembered more than vampire weekend ever will even though you might not be on the cover of spin or rolling stone
Posted by Jonny Greenwood is the man | March 5, 2008 8:27 AM
I am sooooo excited to hear these songs
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2008 9:01 AM
Here's a mini-recap
Age of the Understatement: the single, very conquest-like, as though it should be in the background of a band of horses riding through the night or something. very cool. the chorus was something like this:
"there's passion for sale,
the age of the understatement,
before the affection ferments,
kiss me quite properly and tear me apart."
Only the Truth: very James Bond-like riff in the background, and the more upbeat of all the songs.
Calm Like You: seems like one of the more top songs, softer but still with energy. It's about how if you were calm it would be easier to get your girl, etc.
The Meeting Place was a sort of soft, romantic song, all about the meeting place between a girl and a guy.
Honestly I had planned on taking more mental/physical notes, but I was just standing there in shock the whole time. But the above songs were definitely the most memorable songs, and hopefully the CD will leak soon so you can all see for yourself
also afterwards, alex turner and miles kane walked off the stage and shmoozed throughout the 90-person audience for about twenty minutes
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2008 9:04 AM
also the vampire weekend guys weren't assholes, they were probably on the list.
the guy with the huge fro-like beard from TVOTR was there too
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2008 9:05 AM
There were no guest lists stupid....they think they're hot shit or something now cause Pitchshit loves them and they're on the cover of Spin...
people who think VW is the shit just needs to keep their mouth shut
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2008 9:39 AM
there were like 100 cameras there last night!! anyone feel free to post your pictures from the show!
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2008 9:44 AM
Please start your vampire weekend fan club and be the only that cares about them next year....
how can people honestly think they're that good....its pathetic
its all blogs hype crap
they didn't even tour across the country before their cd came out....they just got signed by playing around nyc area couple of times....and look what happened to clap your hands say yeah
Arctic Monkeys > Vampire Weekend
Thank you

there was a guestlist, don't be an asshole.
the woman in the blue shirt who was running the door had the guestlist. i saw a few people who i know were on the list walk past the line and go in before anyone else was let in (their lead publicist, manager, etc.)
guestlist people were let in before everyone else to make sure that the people that alex turner/miles kane wanted to be there would get in no matter what happened with the line/crowd - there's always a guestlist.
