M.I.A. & Holy Fuck are playing McCarren Pool in June

Holy Fuck @ Music Hall of Williamsburg - March 22, 2008 (selftitled)
HF @ MHOW

Holy Fuck and M.I.A. are playing McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn on June 6th (which is awesome).

BUT, although there will be free shows at McCarren this summer, this is not one of them (unlike last time M.I.A. showed up at McCarren). Tickets go on sale March 29th.

M.I.A.'s other two upcoming shows are Coachella and Bonnaroo.

Another stupid Brooklyn hipster who listens to shitty music!

Posted by Anonymous | March 25, 2008 9:54 PM

oh yeah, MIA and Holy Fuck are SO shitty. dumb ass.

Please enlighten us with your superiour musical taste by leaving some reccomendations here in these comments.

Posted by Anonymous | March 25, 2008 9:58 PM

Hipsters of the world, UNITE, and overcome these evil forces that try to bring us down.

Now dont be jealous just because your balls are too big to fit into our tight ass high water pants and you dont have money to shop at Brooklyn Industries or American Apparel, and your band is not some kind of hipster psychedelic, tribal band that is going to take over this world; and your hair will never, ever, ever look as good as ours.

Oh wait......are we talking about clothing styles or music? Perhaps, we have to make a distinction between the two?

Posted by Anonymous | March 25, 2008 10:14 PM

theres no need to leave recoMMendations(what an idiot), but a simple copy and paste of lyrics can handily help anon 945's argument:

"Slam Galang galang galang
Ga la ga la ga la Land ga Lang ga Lang
Shotgun get you down
Get down get down get down
Ge-d Ge-d Ge-d Down G-down G-down
Too late you down D-down D-down D-down
Ta na ta na ta na Ta na ta na ta"
-apparently saying down as many times as possible+ gibberish= good

"Who the hell is huntin' you?
In the BMW
How the hell they find you?
1 4 7'd you
Feds gonna get you
Pull the strings on the hood
One Paranoid you
Blazing through the Hood"
-as well as rhyming you with bmw, and hood with wait hood? are you fucking kidding me?

so when did MIA become hipster music? i loved her from the second i heard the first album, probably because i like to dance and can relate to issues of identity/immigration/assimilation.

Posted by Anonymous | March 25, 2008 10:49 PM

im not gonna argue whether or not its hipster, ill just say its shit though. im sorry but there is better dance music and i guess its kinda of hard to relate to immigration issues when i cant understand what the fuck she is saying..... ever. is there any lyric of hers that is coherent?

Posted by Anonymous | March 25, 2008 11:20 PM

the lyrics are pretty stupid but she does have some hot beats behind her. I was thinking of buying her cd but that was like so last winter.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 12:49 AM

MIA is the largest steaming pile of bison dung that ever landed on the earth and became part of the soil that the grass grew in that the horse ate that shited out the massive, putrid mound of feces that fell on the ground that you walk on.

Seriously.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:16 AM

when did it become cool to hate M.I.A.?

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:25 AM

Funny, that's exactly how I feel about the talentless know-it-alls here commenting on everything.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:28 AM

Anon 9:35 & 9:58
Off the top of my head, you can go listen to....
1) Basement Jaxx
2) The Avalanches
3) Murs and Slug
4) Boards of Canada
5) Scott Walker
6) T. Rex
7) Tortoise
8) Charlie Parker

instead of M.I.A. or Holy Fuck........

Now I'll be waiting for your recommendations.....

Was anyone else bothered by the fact that despite the survey showed concerts/films were the preferred activities to take place at the McCarren Park Pool, OSA seems to suggest that reopening the pool is the preferred choice of NYers and will be renovating the pool for this purpose (with tax dollars) that the majority don't even want?

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:36 AM

i'm saying, dj kayslay would hurt each of you regardless of your love or hatred for m.i.a. so i would just always mention that kayslay is the man. just in case he's watching.

kayslay drama king! run this shit! drama ! kay slay! UNNNNNNHHHHHHHH! Papooose papoose nacirema dream! that's "american" backwards! DJ KAYSLAY!

Posted by eponymous | March 26, 2008 1:53 AM

t.rex? come on seriously.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:57 AM

$39.50? Holy fuck, fuck you M.I.A.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 2:56 AM

you're mad at that and not batting an eye at $35 Hot Chip tickets at music hall of Williamsburg??

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 4:25 AM

Her shit is unique and fun: she one of the few non-Disney packaged female artists getting anywhere these days. If you think her lyrics aren't groundbreaking, read these:

'Well, since my baby left me,
I found a new place to dwell.
Its down at the end of lonely street
At heartbreak hotel.

You make me so lonely baby,
I get so lonely,
I get so lonely I could die.

And although its always crowded,
You still can find some room.
Where broken hearted lovers
Do cry away their gloom.'

Rhyming 'hotel' with 'dwell' and 'room' with 'gloom'? Come on.

Posted by greg | March 26, 2008 6:21 AM

6,000,000 MIA fans can't be wrong

Comparing MIA to Elvis F*@%king Presley??!?!!?!

You take Gold medal in being a D-bag
Silver in pronounced irrelevance in musical knowledge
And another Gold for insignificant commenting

Congrats A-Hole!

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 8:33 AM

how is anyone complaining about the ticket price?!?!? it's been around that for the paying concerts the past couple of years.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 9:53 AM

"$40+ holy fuck that."

I don't think that is too much at all. Hopefully more people are like you and the concert will not be packed. Have fun listening from the outside, I will be inside dancing my ass off.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 9:54 AM

they're both awesome, but come on... $37.50 before fees?!? that's almost as tacky as the typical comment on here.

Posted by jp | March 26, 2008 9:57 AM

37.50 isnt that bad, considering the black kids are now charging $20 for their bowery show. and havent all the mccarren shows always been on the pricer side?

and if fees bother you, just stop by the box office.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 10:03 AM

yeah, and if you live in bklyn they opened a box office at music hall on saturdays. i got my xiu xiu tickets there last saturday for yes... no fee. so get on your track bike after lunch at dumont and go grab one.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 10:18 AM

Those tickets will cost me 7 hours of work's worth of wages (after taxes).

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 10:31 AM

8:33am, you forgot to turn you 'ironic recognizer button' on today, you turd burgler. Props for defending Elvis! I'm sure he'd welcome M.I.A. to Graceland... not.

Posted by greg | March 26, 2008 10:39 AM

well, you can pay the $40, OR, you can see it for free while boost mobile simultaneously turns mccarren into a 500 foot cesspool of corporate ads...

which do you prefer you whiny hipster nyu fuck wads??

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 10:43 AM

Are any of you losers even from NY???!! I bet that's a big NO! I am so tired of you weirdo outcasts coming from your small as hick towns and over populating our city so you can reinvent yourselves! Especially Brooklyn....what do you know about Williamsburg other than you walk around with tight jeans big stupid mickey mouse shades and eat lemongrass and barley. None of you know what it is to be a NYer and what kind of music NYers really like so please save the talk for your old friends in Ohio and Michigan.

Posted by NYER | March 26, 2008 10:47 AM

haha...the comments on this thread are ridiculous

Posted by jp | March 26, 2008 11:14 AM

This thread is like a greatest hits of typical BV comments. NYER is like the "authentic New Yorker" cherry on top. Hate to break it to you buddy, but people have been coming to New York to reinvent themselves for HUNDREDS OF YEARS. It's time to get over it.

Anyway, Kala is a great record but MIA is just not that good live. At least she wasn't last year at Studio B. Maybe she's improved but I'm not spending $40+ to find out.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 11:15 AM

NYER is so typical.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 11:19 AM

chilling by the fence, or dancing your brains out on the outside dance floor is one way to hear the beats, and not pay the bucks.

yah! outdoor shows! it's the last year dudes... :(

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 11:34 AM

look i love boards of canada but you can not DANCE to it.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 11:49 AM

"Those tickets will cost me 7 hours of work's worth of wages (after taxes)."

The solution is not quick, but just go to college, study hard, and get a good job when you graduate. It takes sacrifice, but at least you won't missing any great shows!

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 12:12 PM

scott walker, on the other hand...now he's some bangers!

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 12:13 PM

Why does everytime there is some MIA related news, all the retards that loves her, and all the retards who hates her, have to start posting comments.
Get a sex life...

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 12:13 PM

btw, tix for black kids r 13 in advance... now that's a good price

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 12:44 PM

Cool! I'm going to bring my hipster baby in a stroller to this show!

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 12:45 PM

Jesus, why are some of you so bitter? Shouldn't you be complaining about hipsters to your therapist or something? They're paid to care about your fake bullshit, the rest of us don't really care about how cool you think you are.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 1:11 PM

I get plenty of sex with myself and still find time to post on this site.

hahahaha

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 3:05 PM

1:36am- i'm definitely pissed about the renovations. i helped the the survey's and looked them over and mostly EVERYONE would rather the pool stay as a place for outdoor events like films and shows.

i work there and it's my favorite place to be each summer. i'm really going to have nothing to look forward to after this summer.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2008 3:56 PM

$39.50 can feed mia's extended family AND put a down payment on one of those new Tata cars.

Yo NYER, I'm totally from a tiny ass town in Missorui and I'm about to wear some tight pants up your grill son! I can't wait to tell the folks back home!

Asshole. Dude, nobody in New York is from New York. What are there like, five of you left? WHO gives a shit?

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2008 1:58 AM

"$39.50 can feed mia's extended family AND put a down payment on one of those new Tata cars.

I smell prejudice & racism, you're not even near from being funny...

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2008 7:07 AM

anon 7:07,
you ever been to south Asia? NO? it's cheap as hell. $39.50 goes a long way there. But you can't laugh at that, can you...

I smell a guilty white pansy who needs to learn to take a joke and stop with the indignant self-righteousness and over-played sloganeering.
Who are YOU to call someone a racist?

If you're so hurt then go stick your head in an oven and turn that bitch up to 550.
