She and him @ Noise Pop

We're skipping ahead for a second. We already know what Ryan did on his first night in San Francisco. Here's how he spent his last.....

She and him @ Noise Pop

The 2008 Noise Pop Festival came to an end in San Francisco last night (March 2, 2008) with what was arguably the biggest (or at least most newsworthy) event of the four days: the live debut of She & Him which is also known as the new musical project of M Ward & actress Zooey DeschanelShe and Him.

Their set included what must be most of their originals, plus a few covers, like Smokey's "You Really got a Hold on Me" and Sam Cooke's "Bring it Back Home" (give those a listen). (Another really solid cover was I Put a Spell on You which closed out their encore.) Those, in fact, along with a gorgeous piano song (the first piano number they played; the title, I don't know) were the highlights of the set. The musicianship was good and Zooey's voice is great. The songwriting is pretty decent-some engaging lyrics and melodies. [ipickmynose]
Ryan liked it too. More on that and many more pictures below....

the highlight was when all the members of Tilly and The Wall walked in to enjoy the show after their own sold out show at rickshaw stop. I love nebraskans.

I was there. It was pretty meh. Zooey's voice may be good, but she doesn't have much range. Some people left in the middle of the set. Thank god they only did 2 songs for the encore (not 4 that are listed on the setlist).

Tilly and the Wall were great, though!

I was there as well. I liked Zooey's voice, but when she sings high it gets a little thin and shrill. But she sounded a lot better than I anticipated, at times, quite lovely. I've never seen anyone so "deer in the headlights" as she was between songs though. At times it seemed she was just staring out into the crowd waiting for the band to hurry up and start playing again.

I thought the best stuff they did were the covers when it was just the two of them doing duets.

Matt was fun to watch. Can't wait to for him to come around again doing his own stuff.

My grandmother would love this stuff.

I thought it was a really good set, definitely held my attention all the way through. The 1st Piano Song was "Sentimental Heart" I believe and that combined with "I Put A Spell On You" were definitely the highlights of the set.

Glad I got to catch this show, and loved when someone yelled out "I Love You" to which Zooey replied, "Thanks. Was that to me or Matt?" to which the female fan responds, "Matt." Cue Zooey looking dejected. It was more comical than sad though.

people who use the word meh should be punched in the balls by masked men and never told why.

Is that Rory Gilmore?!? Last I heard she had just broken up with Logan and was reporting on the Obama campaign for some online magazine. You go, girl!
