not to be confused with Fuck Buttons....

Condo Fucks

The Condo Fucks are playing Magnetic Field in Brooklyn Friday night (March 28, 2008). It;s one of the venue's last shows ever. Who are they? According to the club they are,

Of "Government Problem," "Fuckin' Gary Sandy," etc. fame.
The other band on the bill is The A-Bones. Their show description reads...
Adieu Magnetic Field! Friday night of the final week for a venue that must shoulder much of the blame for us still being together. Say it ain't so!!!! We're extra jazzed to be playing with The Condo Fucks of "We're Moving In!" fame.
And most interesting of all is this message from Matador Records:
Legendary Matador Recording Artists Return To The Stage This Friday

The Condo Fucks are supporting the A-Bones this Friday night at Brooklyn's Magnetic Field. Doors open at 8pm, there's an $8 cover and DJ Phast Phreddie will be spinning. Records, presumably.

At first I thought of Stephen Malkmus because he has three NYC shows coming up, but he'll be in DC Friday night. Now I think it's got to be Yo La Tengo, or at least related to them somehow, but really I have no idea.

Fuck Buttons are playing that night too, but at Bowery Ballroom.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2008 6:38 PM

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 9:09 AM

"Skynard!"

Spelled incorrectly and not funny. Put your lighter away, there will be no encore.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 9:39 AM

Run On was never the same after Newgarden left the band.

Posted by Mid Fingg | March 28, 2008 9:44 AM

maybe it's a band from the future, when condos will actually fuck each other.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 10:03 AM

It is not YLT. They are recording/mixing stuff in Austin this week.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 10:34 AM

Hmmm, Ira gave a shout out to the Condo Fucks on his WFMU show last Tues. I'm not sure how they could still be in Austin.

Posted by BTH | March 28, 2008 10:53 AM

"It is not YLT. They are recording/mixing stuff in Austin this week."

I think you meant "Don't bother showing up to this show. There's already a line that stretches from Brooklyn to Austin, around the block"

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 11:00 AM

no standing around outside prior to 7 pm. If you get there at 7:02, it's already too late...

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 11:04 AM

According to some on DTS (GBV forum) Doug Gillard is playing.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 11:18 AM

"Hmmm, Ira gave a shout out to the Condo Fucks on his WFMU show last Tues. I'm not sure how they could still be in Austin."

Is this supposed to be the anti-line-around-block post? Ira was not on WFMU this Tuesday. I think it might be, but these postive-fake posts are just as bad as the negative-fake posts. Stop spreading lies.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 12:10 PM

Hahaha even if this is actually YLT, there wont be a line around the block in any way shape or form. You will be able to walk in anytime you show up.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 12:21 PM

Really? Walk in anytime?

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 12:23 PM

yeah bailter space! (fronted by liz phair)

Posted by huuuuuuh | March 28, 2008 12:55 PM

"Really? Walk in anytime?

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 12:23 PM"

Yes really. Bet on it.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 12:59 PM

The show's sold out on TicketWeb. I wouldn't count on walking in this evening...

Chain Gang

"The show's sold out on TicketWeb. I wouldn't count on walking in this evening...

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 1:05 PM"

Yeah day of show no more tickets available. That is par for the course for Ticket Web. There were plenty of tickets avail as of this morning. They just took them offline. Walking in to the show tonite will not be a problem at all.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 1:12 PM

your guess is as good as mine as to if the condo fucks is YLT, but the show's advance tickets definitely sold out two days ago.

Posted by InTheKnow | March 28, 2008 1:51 PM

Intheknow,
WRONG because I bought a ticket on ticketweb this morning so i am not sure how that could be if they sold out 2 days ago. I guess you are not so "intheknow"

Show is not sold out people. As stated above you will be able to walk in to this place anytime tonite.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 1:58 PM

seeing as i am the one who i posted the show on ticketweb i can guarantee that we did indeed sell out all advance tickets days ago and there was no sales today or since. there will be a handful of tickets available at the door, but not many due to will-call/will-buy lists... First come first serve.

only three more shows, folks!

Posted by Lee Greenfeld (Magnetic Field) | March 28, 2008 2:22 PM

So officially the show is NOT SOLD OUT as stated numerous times above
Thanks just wanted some clarity.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 2:32 PM

Hey Lee,
since you are reading this, can you tell us the schedule tonite
What time do The A Bones go on and what time does Yo La Tengo go on?

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 2:35 PM

no, it is not 100% sold out -- there will be aprox 15 tickets available when we open the doors at 7PM.

the schedule...

tonight:
CONDO FUCKS - 9PM
THE A-BONES - 10PM
PHAST PHREDDIE spins all night!

tomorrow:
DAGGER GOD - 9PM
THE BROUGHT LOW - 10PM
(earplug night!)

sunday:
THE MISCREANTS - 8PM
SHAW NUFF - 9PM

Posted by Lee Greenfeld (Magnetic Field) | March 28, 2008 2:50 PM

"The Condo Fucks" are actually the A-Bones and the band listed as "The A-Bones" is actually Grand Funk Railroad playing under an assumed name.

Posted by anon | March 28, 2008 2:54 PM

Thanks Lee for the info.
Wow you have Yo La Tengo opening for the A Bones.
That is kind of wack.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 3:01 PM

"kind of wack" ... thanks for the positivity, anonymous 3:01!

regardless, it's THE CONDO FUCKS opening for THE A-BONES.

Posted by Lee Greenfeld (Magnetic Field) | March 28, 2008 3:08 PM

Lee
not a problem and yes I know i know THE CONDO FUCKS.
Dude we all know it is YLT. If you want to continue the charade that is fine by me.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 3:13 PM

Lee, can you have the band go by the condo craps? I find the f word offensive.

thanks in advance.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 3:15 PM

OK, sorry, Ira was not on WFMU Tuesday, he was on YESTERDAY!

but who is DAGGER GOD?

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2008 3:51 PM

BECKON THE DAGGER GOD!

Posted by bryan | March 28, 2008 5:44 PM

it is YLT. just talked to james and saw georgia and ira down the street. it is totally sold out and they're not selling additional tickets at the door, or so i was told by several different people. d'oh! but james told me they'd be playing a 31 minute set, and not even YLT songs, so oh well...

Posted by Qbertplaya | March 28, 2008 7:37 PM

If this "legendary Matador band" was GBV or Pavement OK. Yo La Tengo are a solid band but this wasn't worth the mystery.

Posted by Anonymous | March 29, 2008 6:12 AM

>but james told me they'd be playing a 31 minute
> set, and not even YLT songs, so oh well...

Yeah, god forbid you'd have to endure YLT playing covers...

Posted by anon | March 30, 2008 12:51 AM

"no, it is not 100% sold out -- there will be aprox 15 tickets available when we open the doors at 7PM."

Either the poster above is an impostor and not Lee, or he is an ass with an annoying sense of humor.

Got there at 6:45pm and there were no tickets. Zero. None. There was only one person there, a girl, who some guy at the venue said something to the effect of "come back at 7 and I will try to get you in". By the time 7pm rolled around, there were only 4 people there. The girl got in, us three guys were shut out. Maybe she was press.

Slighty before 7pm, they put up a sign saying "Sold Out. Where have you been in the past five years?". With that kinf of attitude, I am not surprised they are closing down. I have been to MF a few times over the past few years (Dansettes was the last time), but the bar is too far away for it to be a "destination" locale. Let's face it, unless you live in the area, not many will come. Not everyone lives in downtown Brooklyn, or GASP, even Brooklyn!

The funniest part of the night was one one of the people at the venue was saying "come back later, maybe we will have room, try after the Condo Fucks finish their set". The Condo Fucks are the reason it was sold out! Boy was he clueless. He really thought the show was sold out because people wanted to say goodbye to MF. Someone buy him a clue for Xmas, please.

Hey Lee, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Posted by Anonymous | March 31, 2008 11:49 AM

another asshole... unreal.

Posted by Anonymous | March 31, 2008 3:27 PM

Lee made it clear in an earlier post that he sincerely thought there were going to be tickets available. I got the impression that when the pre-sale list was added with the band's guest list they were over the limit -- can't anyone see that as a possibility. Also, I think the point whoever at the club was making about their being room after YLT's set was that there was an assumption that some people would leave after their set, making for more room to let folks in.

Why is everyone so nasty and bitter on this board?

Posted by MF-defender | March 31, 2008 3:35 PM

agreed. No one is better than the other.
Music is a positive life force in my opinion.
Y'all are just lucky enough to even live close to where this band originated.
I have to wait for them to come to the pacific which is not that often.
AND they are and have been my favorite band for 16 years!
So?
How was the show?

Posted by fanned | March 31, 2008 4:57 PM

show was fantastic... here's what they covered:

Whatcha Gonna Do About It (Small Faces)
Accident (Electric Eels)
This Is Where I Belong (Kinks)
Shut Down (Beach Boys)
Shut Down, part II (Beach Boys)
With a Girl Like You (Troggs)
The Kids with the Replaceable Head (Richard Hell)
Dog Meat (Flamin’ Groovies)
So Easy Baby (Zantees)
Come On Up (Young Rascals)
Gudbuy T’Jane (Slade)

Thanks for the mp3. This is a fun non-mystery to unravel. In all the sleuthing I've seen on various blogs, I've seen no mention of the fact that Yo La Tengo's 1997's I Can Hear... album came with an insert advertising several fake bands signed to Matador, the Condo Fucks being one of them. Their album was titled, Movin' In. The other "bands" included G.I. Joe Extreme, The Shitheels, The Electric Tie Rack, The Quadmen, and Unsanitary Napkins.

All i know is that we here in fabulous New London, CT, have known about the Condo Fucks for years now...we have to admit, it was nice having them as our little secret. They got their start up here playing shows with killer new london bands like Fatal Film, The Suicide Dolls, Quiet Life and ISL.
Here in NL, we're breedig the next big things to happen in rock. There must be something in the water...

Yet somehow, Don, the mystery of the submit button remains elusive.

If you press it four times, your shit gets posted to the metanet.
