Working For a Nuclear Free City

I just realized that Working For a Nuclear Free City, a Manchester band I never really took notice of until today, is playing Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn tonight (March 8, 2008) before heading down to Austin to play SXSW next week....

Original members Phil Kay ("production" and keyboard) and Gary McClure (guitar) formed as a studio entity in 1999; WFANFC began performing live in 2004, after adding drummer Jon Kay and bassist Ed Hulme to the group. Having previously released material in the United Kingdom, its debut American release, "Businessmen & Ghosts", came out in November 2007. [Wikipedia]
Pitchfork likes them and they sound pretty good. Videos and tour dates below....

they really should be playing the mercury lounge, but i guess it doesnt really matter cause they're an awesome band.

i'm an actually glad these guys havent had any real hype yet, cause you now everyone at the show tonight will be there cause they love the music, and not cause they want to be part of a scene.

I'll be one of those 25. Been looking forward to this show for a long time.

"Pitchfork likes them and they sound pretty good."

BV, do you read what you write? Not trying to be mean, but you're really sounding like a tool these days.

If you read this month's Alternative Press--the only music mag that matters--you'll see they are 1 of the Top 100 bands to watch of 2008!

These guys were GREAT at Music Hall on Saturday. But their set was a little short. I hope they come back very soon. Make sure you catch them at SXSW if you are going.

I was one of the 25 people there too. Flew in from Minneapolis for it. Worth it.

Fantastic record. Maybe someone will hear it after SXSW.

I agree...they sounded great but didn't play all that long. And I think there were more than 25 people there, but not many. Opening band The Cloud Room was complete garbage.
