Virgin Festival

"People have eagerly awaited our lineup, and now everyone can see that we've achieved the 'Whoa!' factor," said Virgin Mobile Festival concert producer and I.M.P. Chairman Seth Hurwitz. "Our job is that of a curator, finding only the absolute best acts for the most discerning of audiences. We want people to count on us every year for an amazing lineup from start to finish. When fans buy their tickets to the Virgin Mobile Festival, they know they are going to have a great time, be well-treated, and see the best acts in the world, which is why they come back."

Chuck Berry"This is an incredible event for music fans, our partners and customers, as well as a tremendous introduction to our brand," said Bob Stohrer, Chief Marketing Officer, Virgin Mobile USA. "The lineup once again is awesome and, like most things 'Virgin,' it's more than just a concert, but two days full of unexpected and interactive happenings. This year, we have also added the creation of a special edition Virgin Mobile Festival Wild Card handset from Kyocera Wireless, the premier handset sponsor of the event for the past three years."

Bob DylanHurwitz noted that more artists will be added. "Our bill is really strong now," he said, "but in the last two years, acts came along at the last minute that I had to pass on as the lineup was set in stone. This year I'm adding a new element of keeping a couple of choice slots open so I can take advantage of new opportunities over the next few months."

Posted by James Snuka | April 28, 2008 8:59 AM

I hate APW!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 9:00 AM

better than apw. but seriously? iggy dylan and chuck? they need to quit with all the old fuckers headlining shows. one at most.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 9:46 AM

it doesnt take much to be better than apw.

if you take the bands playing nyc on any given week and put them on one stage, you'll have a better lineup than apw.

and yeah the old timers sound good in theory, but rarely move tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 9:52 AM

APW = pwned.

Had to do it.

This line up is great.

and for the dickhead at 9:46, neither Dylan or Berry is headlining, even though they could and should. You are a hipster douchebag. seriously.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 9:58 AM

Ok, i'm officially going south instead of sticking around for crappy APW. Virgin is tons better, and it is cheaper! WTF?

APW = EPIC FAIL.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 9:59 AM

JACK JOHNSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:14 AM

this is not better than APW and i think APW is weak.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:24 AM

With all these bands, plus the threat of more, I would guess that most bands are going to get a half hour or so. Maybe less.

Posted by Robert | April 28, 2008 10:24 AM

^^^ No-I went last year. The bigger bands get 1 1/2 hours. The lesser known get about 50 minutes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:31 AM

10:24

you have shit fer brains

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:31 AM

last year @ Virgin, the bands got from 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes. Headliners got a little longer.

Know before you post dumbass. (Robert 10:24)

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:33 AM

yeah anyone you says (anon 10:24) this is not better than APW is in denial, or is completely retarded, or can't go because they foolishly bought an APW pass and having nothing left for a better festival (any of them)

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:34 AM

I will be there!

Posted by Jimmy McNulty | April 28, 2008 10:35 AM

The Virgin Festival is EASILY the most fun festival I've been to. The layout is excellent, the crowds are really decent and nice, sound is great, food is not terribly priced, cool artwork everywhere...it's a pleasure.

Posted by Bob F. | April 28, 2008 10:36 AM

In head to head competition (the same weekend), All Points Weak just got buttfucked on the interwebs.

APW = PWNED!

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:36 AM

Wow they got Underworld, so much for APW's exclusive... which wasn't a fucking exclusive in the first place - even though they are selling it as such.

The promoters are so scared they fucked up, they are giving in to the hard sell tactics, like if you can't see so and so at The Bowery then come to APW! Waht a fucking joke. I don't see Virgin or lolla pulling that crap. Know why, they have decent lineups and a good festival ahead of them.

APW has shown how to screw something up in a fierce competitive market for our concert dollar. Others noted and systematically owned them time and time again.

Next year try harder APW, Even if there is a next year.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:40 AM

Virgin just raped APW

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:41 AM

As someone who still plans to head to APW on Saturday, are you all really saying The Roots, Sia and Radiohead <<< Bloc Party, Cat Power and Offspring? How optimistic.

Posted by anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:47 AM

There won't be another APW. At least not like it is this year. The public opinion, a very important thing these days, has already deemed this a lame duck.

It's hard to bounce back from that - look what happened to The Field Day Festival, one year and out.

APW is nothing more than a glorified couple of Radiohead concerts. Everyone knows this, that's why you see all the hate on boards like this. People expect more, esp for those ticket prices. Festivals like Coachella (funny enough), Lolla, Sasquatch, ACL, and Virginn give people that time and time again.

Maybe APW will learn from this, but I highly doubt it. It will go down as a mistake, and or financial draw, thus making the posibility of another harder to come by. Who knows? After all the first Coachella lost money, but that was in a different time, when the public wasn't going to these things, or didn't have festival choice left and right.

Virgin is better. I have made my choice.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:47 AM

no.

Bloc Party, Cat Power, Chuck Berry and The Silver Beats, Citizen Cope, Duffy, Foo Fighters, Gogol Bordello, Jack Johnson, KT Tunstall, Lupe Fiasco, The Offspring, Paramore, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Swell Season and Wilco. Plus about 20 more bands is great than APW on Saturday.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:50 AM

what he/she said

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:50 AM

Don't forget ALL of these acts are at Virgin on Saturday.

Bloc Party, Cat Power, Chuck Berry and The Silver Beats, Citizen Cope, Duffy, Foo Fighters, Gogol Bordello, Jack Johnson, KT Tunstall, Lupe Fiasco, The Offspring, Paramore, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Swell Season and Wilco. DJ Dan & Donald Glaude, Erol Alkan, Ferry Corsten, Soul Wax, Steve Lawler and Underworld.

There is no comparing the festivals other than Radiohead. that's APW one saving grace, BUT, I'm just going to go to the superior Radiohead show in Camden. that way I don't have to fight with 30,000 other people for a good spot.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:53 AM

FUCK APW.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:54 AM

n head to head competition (the same weekend), All Points Weak just got buttfucked on the interwebs.

APW = PWNED!

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:36 AM

HAHAHA!

APW is going to be sore for weeks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:55 AM

All Points Weak is officially a joke.

Maybe Virgin should do a NY festival? maybe in the Fall?

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:57 AM

ew. this lineup sucks hairy beanbag. APW is bettah. but i guess that depends on who you like now doesnt it!

Posted by josh | April 28, 2008 11:16 AM

NO - any person with a brain knows that APW is Radiohead and thats it, Virgin has lots more choice, some bad, some good, some great.

the point is CHOICE - APW has none - therefore it blows.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:19 AM

looks like this Josh fellow already bought his APW tickets - HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Loser.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:19 AM

"APW is Radiohead and thats it"

APW sucks, but show the Roots a little love.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:26 AM

uhm, IMO Radiohead, Grizzly, Bird, AC > Bloc Party, Cat Power. Saw dylan at ACL last year and was horrid. and she & him SUCKED @ webster hall last week and im seeing black keys @ mccarren. SO why would i go to virgin??? SHIT MAN! ANDDDDDDDDDDD two nights of Radiohead? And i DID already buy my APW tix, and am still not feeling any buyers remorse.

Posted by josh | April 28, 2008 11:31 AM

and the point isnt CHOICE. the point is going and seeing music you like! and theres more of that FOR ME @ APW! geez/.

Posted by josh | April 28, 2008 11:33 AM

PWNED

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:36 AM

roots are down. Cool that they are playing APW - but aprat from UW and RH - the festival is a joke people.

its ok to admit it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:59 AM

actually JOSH,

choice does figure into it - that is one of the selling points of any festival, more is usually better.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:59 AM

::crosses fingers:: I HOPE DAFT PUNK IS ADDED :) :)

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 12:01 PM

pendulum alone makes this show better than apw

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 12:07 PM

Everyone is underestimating APW's location. Yeah, the show is sorely underpowered, but anything more than that would be throwing money away. On last.fm right now, there are more people listed as attending APW than "real" fests like Bonnaroo. It sucks but a lot of us will be there anyway. And thats all the matters.

Posted by commuter | April 28, 2008 12:26 PM

"Radiohead, Grizzly, Bird, AC > Bloc Party, Cat Power" isnt a valid formula as they are different days. Just go to APW on Friday and then Virgin for Sat and Sun. Poor Josh, stuck with only APW tix.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 12:27 PM

ha. you guys are funny! even if i wasnt going to APW, i still wouldnt be going to Virgin. and im totally going to ACL so you can all suck it!

Posted by josh | April 28, 2008 12:39 PM

i could pwn any of you guys.

Posted by teh | April 28, 2008 1:26 PM

Josh responds like a douche

HA!

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 2:20 PM

apw has not been pwned. if you want to go to a cleaner show and watch underworld/kings of leon open for radiohead..then youll go to apw. and if you want to go to a disorganized, dirty ass festival with lots of random ass bands..then you can go to v fest.

ive been to v fest twice already, and it is really truly a lousy excuse for a festival..no matter who plays

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2008 3:28 PM

shudder to think

Posted by modelprisoner | April 29, 2008 8:51 PM

How about this incredibly expensive VIP pass? Did anyone go last year that can comment on the VIP area? Seems like an awful lot of money just to avoid some bathroom lines and get a closer view. Then again, i've been to Pimlico for the Preakness races and MAN does it get crowded!

Posted by Ed D | May 5, 2008 7:21 AM

VIP was not worth it.

I was there last year and convinced the guard to let me look around...so I could see what I get when I buy VIP in the future.

No bathroom lines and no lines to get beer. If that is worth all the extra money for you...go for it.

Did not seem worth it to me.

Posted by felix | May 9, 2008 12:31 PM

Was VIP really not worth it? FUCK I just spent 1000.06 for those damn tickets. Anyone who actualy experienced the VIP comment back.

Posted by Beth | July 11, 2008 1:20 PM

I can't wait for this, the line up looks amazing.

If there are any aspiring music journalists out there there's a good competition for you to get free tickets, I've already got mine so thought i would spread the word in case anyone wants to go for free.

Full line-up and times announced for Virgin Mobile Festival. Foo Fighters and Kanye are playing over an hour each! Check out http://tinyurl.com/5q4ofw for details. Also check out this cool video I found on virgin fest http://www.visitmybaltimore.com/video/583/.

Posted by Anna | July 28, 2008 1:45 PM

this fest sucks, and it is the dirtiest venue ever. so glad im going to APW that weekend

and dylan is opening for kanye. what is this world coming to?

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 1:53 PM

I got the VIP tix, also. The way I see it, it's just money, who cares, it's an experience. I've been in the boat where I've had to pee so bad I've gone into the men's room...so if extra money gets me shorter lines at the loo I'll take it.

And for those who are upset that living legends Chuck Berry and Bob Dylan are playing, you should be ashamed of yourselves! Part of the reason you have rock n roll to listen to (in the many forms of the genre) is because of Chuck Berry, and Bob Dylan changed the landscape of music immensely. You just go ahead to the Paramore show (not downing them--they just can NEVER hold a candle to the contribution or stage presence of the two former legends mentioned) and stay out of my way while I happily listen to a man who helped create rock n roll, and another who makes me feel like I'm not alone in the world.

Peace.
