Deerhoof
Deerhoof

Add Cold War Kids, Crooklyn Dodgers, Brazilian Girls, Matt Muisteri, and Deerhoof to the list of artists playing concerts in Prospect Park this summer. Details below.....

FRIDAY ~ JUNE 27 ~ 7:00
WaMu Concert Series
COLD WAR KIDS
Blasting out "cave-stomp drums, barroom piano and chiming post-punk guitars," (Rolling Stone) COLD WAR KIDS eschew indie preciousness for grit. Live, they're all smoldering energy and raw power.

SAUTRDAY ~ JUNE 28 ~ 7:00
Bud Light Music Series
(TENTATIVE) LYRICIST LOUNGE: CROOKLYN DODGERS REUNION featuring MASTA ACE / O.C. / JERU THE DAMAJA / CHUBB ROCK / BUCKSHOT of BLACK MOON

FRIDAY ~ JULY 11 ~ 7:30
Bud Light Latin Music Series
BRAZILIAN GIRLS

SATURDAY ~ JULY 12 ~ 7:30
Verizon Concert Series
BETH ORTON / MATT MUNISTERI
Maverick UK singer-songwriter BETH ORTON practically invented a genre on her groundbreaking 1996 debut Trailer Park, blending acoustic folk with trip hop beats. More than a decade on she's "a performer with a dramatically renewed sense of vigor and purpose," (London Times) as unclassifiable as ever and still wielding a voice as evocative as any in popular music. Brooklyn native MATT MUNISTERI and his cohorts display wicked chops on tunes "neither jazz, nor rock, nor cabaret, but at the same time all of them. Bands like this are why you move to New York." (Village Voice)

FRIDAY ~ JULY 18 ~ 7:00
Verizon Concert Series
DEERHOOF / METROPOLIS ENSEMBLE: STRAVINSKY'S RITE OF SPRING
The mercurial SF experimentalists DEERHOOF, "the most creative band in indie rock today," (LA Weekly) forge a distinctive sound out of sophisticated improvisation, fierce dissonance, and weird but weirdly catchy melodies. They're paired here with the forward thinking METROPOLIS ENSEMBLE (who perform Stravinsky's Rite of Spring) as part of the Wordless Music series, which puts popular and classical artists together to undermine boundaries between performers and audiences of each.

Another great set of shows. This summer is looking better and better. That Lyricist Lounge show should be kinda nuts

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 10:29 AM

"Tentative" for the Crooklyn Dodgers, huh? That show will, unfortunately, never happen!

The guy on the right should never smile... That makes him look dumb and happy....

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 10:59 AM

are these free... ie deerhoof and CWK?

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 12:32 PM

yes

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 12:40 PM

how about Brazilian Girls and Beth Orton, are they free?

Greg (“the guy on the right” in the Deerhoof picture) should smile every moment of his life. He practically does. He’s a warm, loving, talented-as-fuck fellow, and one of the most genuinely interesting (and genuinely interested – in what other artists are doing) people in the music industry. Don’t hate.

Oh no, you hurt a fanboy's feelings.

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2008 11:07 AM

Greg is one of the best drummers ever.

Who are these people? I've never heard of most of these groups. Looks like this year's line up must be heavily indie rock.

Who are YOU?

P.S. this page lists 5 of like 30 total shows.

I can't WAIT for the Crooklyn Dodgers Reunion, though I will probably be the only sister there. :-/

Wow...If crooklyn dodgers happens this whole 'breathing' thing will be worth it

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2008 10:13 AM

Anyone know where I can find set times for Friday's show?

Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2008 8:26 PM

Crooklyn Dodgers was extremely satisfying, too bad Chubb Rock flubbed the opening lyric...

Posted by Anonymous | June 29, 2008 7:53 PM

Chubb Rock was the worst thing about the show. Guy came out and just played snippets of classic songs that were not even his. Finally when they tried to throw him off the stage he did 2 of his own.
