FEist @ Hammerstein

Feist played her first of two shows at the very large Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC last night (April 29, 2008). At one point Feist asked the crowd, "I thought i was suppose to play two nights at the Living Room. Are we at the Living Room?" She thought wrong obviously.

Propelled by the popularity of her hit single "1234" (otherwise known as "The song from the iPod ad"), the album sold about a million copies worldwide.

"I've sung '1234' so many times, it's like hypnotizing myself," says Feist, who goes by just her last name. "But I love playing it live, and I made a music video that was physical and simple."

The colorful choreography was shot in one take. "It's a pinpoint of light fleshing out the constellation of the whole album, but the song itself could lean a degree too close to cutesy."

For fans who happen to like cutesy, Feist, 28, recently performed with Kermit, Elmo and friends on "Sesame Street." [NY POST]

The Sesame Street thing hasn't actually aired yet. Bao said the Hammerstein show was pretty good - lots of new fans who were more interested in talking to each other than watching the show though. She does it again tonight (and over the summer in Brooklyn). More pictures from last night below...

"lots of new fans who were more interested in talking to each other than watching the show though"

Isn't that every show in New York? I just don't understand people who go to a show and talk through the whole goddamn thing.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 10:37 AM

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 10:40 AM

who's the girl with the bucket?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 10:41 AM

I'd hit Elmo.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 10:42 AM

Kermit is on Sesame Street now?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 10:43 AM

The 2nd & 15th pictures prominently feature "man legs," Anon@10:40. But they're presumably not Feist's... so you can stop crying into your mocha now.

1 2 3 4... 28 photos?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 10:55 AM

is she playing with Broken Social Scene this summer?

The crowd last night sucked. No energy. Taled through the entire set. 25% walked out after she sang 1-2-3-4 - thanks Apple.

Bao rocks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 11:02 AM

What time did she go on?

Posted by Tito | April 30, 2008 11:03 AM

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 11:03 AM

Man, Bao keeps getting better.

Posted by nyctaper | April 30, 2008 11:15 AM

bao vs Leia J. who do you think wins? I like her photos a lot, for an amateur she's pretty fucking amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 11:36 AM

I went last night and didn't recognize the opening song. Anybody remember the track? It was very pretty.

"The crowd last night sucked. No energy. Taled through the entire set. 25% walked out after she sang 1-2-3-4 - thanks Apple."

I went last night and it was amazing. her guitarist was very good. anyone catch his name? I am blind and could not see the small type of the band list that was shown on the screen. ; )

Posted by Susanna | April 30, 2008 12:17 PM

If you're blind, how do you know it was posted on the screen?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 12:30 PM

for serious, guys... what time did feist go on last night?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 12:44 PM

Man: one of the most. irritating. performances i've ever been to. The show (her set, at least) began at about quarter to ten; it was practically inaudible over the crowd that only dulled to a low roar for the songs they knew. Too bad, because the song...two after 1-2-3-4 was absolutely wonderful. By that time, of course, I was about to go on a Murderous Rampage. But whatever.

She went on around 9:45 last night.

Posted by Bao | April 30, 2008 1:07 PM

bao eats it.

Posted by richard avedon | April 30, 2008 1:25 PM

she didn't go on until 9:45? really? that seems late.

i have a few tickets for tonight. just trying to figure out what time i should get there.

thanks!

Get there at 9 so you miss the opening act (Hayden), who was extremely boring and uninspired. Also, why does she find it necessary to take nearly an hour to come on stage?

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 1:53 PM

28? Leslie Feist was born in February, 1976. She's 32!

Posted by robert doosh | April 30, 2008 2:03 PM

Hey bao, heard about the crap treatment with the photo pit. Looks like you did okay though! nice pics! very atmospheric!

Posted by Ryan | April 30, 2008 2:07 PM

mr. doosh..i was thinking the same thing...that's cuz the post writers are a bunch of dopes...can't get their facts straight...she's 32!

Posted by bidonx79 | April 30, 2008 2:17 PM

dude get your shit straight...the silhouette pix of legs are NOT hers...if you were at the show which obviously you weren't (or you could've been one of the many asses who kept talking throughout the whole show) you would've noticed the chick in the right back corner running paper cutouts on top of a projector to form the silhouettes...honestly sometimes i believe they need to have another website called Brooklyn Hater for all you posers up in here! DAFUKUP!!!

Posted by funky_diabetic | April 30, 2008 2:21 PM

oh and that comment above was in response to Anon 10:59AM....once again DAFUKUP!!!

Posted by funky_diabetic | April 30, 2008 2:23 PM

the show was boring people were probably talking to keep themselves from falling asleep.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 2:30 PM

1,2,3,4
Face it, dudes, I'm such a bore

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 6:29 PM

Last night's crowd was straight up rude. I dont know what the deal was. Some girl in front of me got into literally 3 different arguments with 3 different people. People need to chill...

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2008 9:19 PM

Bao is better than chipwichs.

Wednesday nights show was ruined by dissapointing acoustics--sitting in the mezzanine was like listing to the concert through a car radio. They needed to turn it up so we could hear! Then people wouldn't be happy to talk through the whole show. Still it was a thrill to be in the same room with that voice.

What was the Pixies song she played?

Posted by camile | May 1, 2008 11:00 AM

does anyone have the setlist for this show???? i can't seem to find it anywhere online...

Posted by bidonx_79 | May 2, 2008 11:19 AM

it wasn't pixies, it was "f-ked up kid" by broken social scene & kevin drew an album she commented most of "you" don't know but should....her narative was last time she was at hammerstien was when bss played with pixies...crowd awful but performance meandered
