"Yes. Hot Chip was ridiculously good. I wasn't expecting the show to be better than at MHoW but I think it was. I haven't been too many times to Terminal 5, but is this the first band really rocking that whole place?" [Eduardo]

"WORST. VENUE. EVER." [Yvonne]

"Terminal 5 turned into its predecessor, NYC hot spot Exit last night for a fist pumping, ass shaking, foot moving good time." [Sal]

Is it me or does Terminal 5 seem to attract a lot younger crowds than other NYC venues?

The ironic highlight of last night's show had to have been "Don't Dance". It's hard to get your shit on when the band is imploring you not to.

Terminal 5 is all ages, thus the younger crowd. It's not just you.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 4:01 PM

i don't think eduardo saw cave last month. he tore the venue a new one.

Had my second T5 experience Friday night. Liked the place as much as I did the first time. People need to get over their hate. Not every show can be @ Bowery Ballroom. And sometimes it's better to see certain bands in a larger venue.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 4:43 PM

that band is ridiculously good

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 4:53 PM

I see myself in that picture, in front of Owen Clarke. The crowd was especially aggressive... I looked at my arms in the mirror this morning and it seemed like I had gotten beat up at the show last night. Picture of the hurt is up on my blog.

I like Terminal 5. People just love to hate on new venues... or places that aren't Bowery Ballroom.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 5:47 PM

i thought most of the crowd was older. i was working outside and checking id's and mostly everyone was over 21.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 5:54 PM

some asshole started bitching because i took a picture and then yelled at me to just check brooklyn vegan hahahaha

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 5:56 PM

whoa did Hot Chip bring it last night!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 6:19 PM

T5's fine assuming you don't show up too late, but it's location fellates.

Tito!

There's something about being high at a Hot Chip show that always feels the same amount of awesome. I love closing my eyes and flailing about like a hippie when no one's looking.

Posted by Carl | April 13, 2008 7:29 PM

For the record, I didn't bitch at anyone about pictures! So whoever it was, wasn't me!

It was an amazing night, despite what people have to say about Terminal 5. Being in the front row was hard though. Everyone was fighting for your spot. I dont think the crowd was too young either. The one real problem was that the sound was not "up to par" untill like the third song. But Free Blood (the opening duo) and Hot Chip really owned it.

Posted by Oliver | April 13, 2008 8:10 PM

amazing show, no complaints for T5 last night.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 8:49 PM

Hot Chip are absolutely amazing. unfortunately, I wasn't able to go to the T5 show but am glad to hear it was as great as the MHOW show. The last time I saw them before that was at Electric Ballroom in London when they were previewing Made In the Dark material...they seriously just keep getting better and better.

Anyone happen to see James Murphy when he walked in??

Posted by Dan | April 13, 2008 10:24 PM

hot chip were absurdly on fire. is there a band out there right now that's at a this level right? besides radiohead. white stripes, lcd maybe. arcade fire. they are in the conversation is my point. and yes, you can't get to terminal 5 late.

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 11:01 PM

who is james murphy?

Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 11:28 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 12:37 AM

The Hives rocked the shit out of T5.

Posted by Jeremy J | April 14, 2008 12:46 AM

you kids get out of my venue!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 1:33 AM

Their best album is probably More Songs About Buildings And Food, but even Stop Making Sense has some good songs on it.

And did they play "Psycho Killer?"

Finally people realize all the Terminal 5 haters are just making up BS!

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 6:44 AM

The sound at Nada Surf on Friday was great! I had no complaints about Terminal 5 on Friday. I was on the Third Floor for Superdrag and back floor for Nada and both places the view and sound were fine!

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 7:57 AM

Hot Chip rocked it, but I really couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. Honestly, I think the sound at Terminal 5 is not very good. Everything is really muddy, the bass is there but not clear and the instrument voices don't have nearly individual presence I want them to have. Could it be the mixer on the night? I saw a comment or two about the sound being fine there on other nights, but I saw Blonde Redhead there at the start of the year and I had the same complaints about the sound.

Did anyone catch Free Blood? I didn't think I'd miss the opener getting there at 9, but I did, then hot chip was done by 11ish. Are all the Terminal 5 shows that early?

Posted by Mr.NoMoniker | April 14, 2008 8:06 AM

dude - what about how fcking early the set started...come on. that was bullsht dude. im not a hater of T5 like many, but what's the rush? shthole webster hall at least has an excuse to start/end their shows on the earlier side. they're doin early shows to then re-fill the joint w bridge n tunnel dance crowds...

but i got to T5 a little after 10 (predominantely due to getting stuck in traffic) - but come on! the show started way earlier than that. fck that noise.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 8:12 AM

Hot Chip were something else saturday night, I just wish that the bass hadn't fallen out during over and over, it really sapped the energy. Also, I wish I was in more pictures :D

Posted by Spamps | April 14, 2008 10:14 AM

hot chip played the same exact set at the music hall. they rocked terminal 5 none the less. but still i was looking for some variation..

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 10:14 AM

What time did Daft Chip go on?

Posted by Daft Dick | April 14, 2008 10:28 AM

i want to marry terminal 5.

Posted by grace6697 | April 14, 2008 11:30 AM

Finally people realize all the Terminal 5 haters are just making up BS!

Right, same person posting the same comment. Terminal Illness 5. That room blew before and did just as much last night. Not the band, the room. Anyplace but there.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 11:34 AM

yeah Terminal 5 is a great space for dance acts, where no one really cares about the sound quality. but for 99% of the other acts that get booked here, terminal 5 just sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 11:41 AM

Wow it must be pretty tiring Anon 11:41 just posting the same thing over and over again in every Terminal 5 show related thread!

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 11:50 AM

I would guarantee anon 11:41 was not even at the show.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 12:01 PM

T5 is the worst venue of all time. If you dont get there early and miss out on a spot by the railing your fucked. The worst! You couldn't make out the lyrics. If it wasnt Hot Chip I would have walked out. And what is with ppl being too fucking cool to dance? It's fucking hot chip for christ sake...

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 12:04 PM

I would guarantee it too! Most people haven't stepped a foot in the venue and they just like to antagonize. I have only been to 2 different shows at Terminal 5 and both the sound was fine! Sightlines were perfectly fine anywhere on the 1st floor! 2nd and 3rd floor you must be in the first row but as long as you are at the venue a little early you can probably get it!

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 12:06 PM

anon 1141 = hammerstein ballroom owner

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 12:10 PM

terminal 5 starts their shows so early because their lawyers tell them to pay atteenmtion to youth curfews and becaause their penny pinchers who don't want to pay their staff for more hours on the job.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 2:15 PM

As displayed by the above comment, thank you BV for providing a site that is the music industry's bastion for misinformation and angst-fueled venting.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 2:21 PM

was this show better than the highline show?

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 2:23 PM

Terminal 5 is the only venue of its size that Bowery Presents could get their hands on. It's not particularly nice or appropriate, but it does give them a room of the right size to compete directly with Live Nation's Hammerstein and Roseland.

that's all fine, cold business among cold businessmen, but it's pretty ridiculous that Bowery's owners and staff are low class enough to actually get on here and post anonymously as phony "satisfied customers".

Their incessant "Terminal 5 is great, sounds good, great sitelines" comments are pretty embarassing given the kind of PR and production budgets they have on hand. Are Brooklyun Vegan's comments really your only outlet?

Why not just doll out the cash and fix the problems?

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 2:24 PM

This would be an intersting experiment...
If the bands went on later at T5, I'm curious to see if there would be more or less whining. You people are out of control... complaints are not even worth reading anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 2:25 PM

shows end before 11 only when there are

A) two separate shows booked in one venue on the same night

B) lawyery all ages curfew concerns

C) cheap management who spend too much time looking at their hourly payroll expenses on Excel

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 2:30 PM

Just enjoy the music people!

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 2:57 PM

pay no attention to the ugly businessmen behind the curtain...

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 3:02 PM

businessmen? In the concert industry? Holy shit! You might have just revealed a huge scandal! Keep us posted please...

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 3:32 PM

This band sounds like Basement Jaxx meets the soundtrack to Mario Kart. Music is so goddamned dead.
