Atlanta band Howlies have some great demo songs now streaming on their MySpace. Not surprisingly, this band comes from the same neck of the woods as Black Lips, and one of their upcoming Atlanta shows is with King Khan & The Shrines. Their self-listed list of influences is a long one and probably sums them up pretty good:
velvet underground. beach boys. chuck berry. howlin wolf. bo diddley. james brown. sam cooke. hollies. heat wave. freddy 'boom boom' cannon. ramones. stones. beatles. kinks. link wray. dion and the belmonts. swingin' medallions. easybeats. CAN. CCR. four seasons. coasters. mothers of invention. kim fowley. phil spector. stooges. misfits. tom petty & the heartbreakers. the falcons. flipper. hawaii. satan. the ATL.I want to check them out at Pianos TONIGHT (April 26, 2008) (@ 11pm) (before The Jones Street Boys). I haven't seen them since the name change, but they used to be called Moresight and were good then too. They've really picked up steam in the last year, which is great. Nice to see the mention here.

Howlies rocked Piano's last night! Moresight was actually a slightly different lineup with a completely different sound. Howlies told me they just recorded an album with producer Kim Fowley out in CA last month, which sounds exciting given the band's early rock n roll influences.

The Howlies were tight last night at Piano's. Tremendous sound, scary talent, very fun. Definately looking forward to another live Howlies show soon. Great to meet you guys. -Dave

Well if they were half as much fun as that video for "Baseball Bat" above, I TOTALLY missed the boat but I sure won't miss it for their next NYC show.

Really? This band is boring. Whats wrong with you people? No one in Atlanta has even heard of them. They're probably the little brothers of Cartel.

love these guys. howlies have been around for about a year now. they have played with king khan and bbq, black lips, the dirtbombs, and the selmanaires just to name a few. don't hate the fun.

I thought the Howlies were some sort of ironic indie-rock version of what "Weird" Al used to do?
Indie rock is a parody genre. Like the Eagles said: "Get over it."
I don't hate the fun, I hate the fact that people can jump on the bandwagon and still be celebrated for it.
I saw them at the EARL (Atlanta venue) a month or so back and found it throughly boring and completely contrived.
Howlies are more in the tradition of New Kids and Backstreet than any band listed in their influences: it's really about as prefab as it gets.
Can someone please point out the Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, and/or James Brown influences in their music.
I do get the Falcons influence considering The Falcons and The Howlies both suck.
Thanks for the laughs guys!

yeah...i'm gonna agree with cole here. these guys just rip on the good bands out of the atl. i mean come on. live its just uninspiring. who's dick did they suck to get on the king kahn show?

These guys rip it up. I've seen them twice and they bring it every time. They are talented dudes, and I feel like people hate on the shit because it's fun and people hate having fun unless it's approved by the scenester gods... Admittedly, they have a lot of different sounds but I think for a fan of music they are great because they span a wide variety of genres. ATL ATM

hey dingleberry,
just to clarify, we were talking about the 50s detroit band the falcons, not the football team... look them up.
i have a feeling all these negative posts are just one guy sitting alone in his teenage bedroom. don't you have something better to do?

They don't have an ounce of fucking soul and not a punk rock bone in their bodies. Sorry.
