Eric Avery included....
ERIC AVERY AGREES TO REUNITE WITH JANE'S ADDICTION FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1991; LEGENDARY BAND TO BE HONORED AT FIRST-EVER U.S. NME AWARDS IN LOS ANGELESPerry Farrell also has a show coming up at the Nokia Theatre in NYC.LOS ANGELES, April 15, 2008 - After much speculation in the previous week, ERIC AVERY has agreed to join former band mates Jane's Addiction for a one-night-only performance at the first-ever U.S. NME Awards. The iconic foursome will be crowned with the Godlike Genius Award during the ceremony and performance, to take place at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, April 23. Jane's Addiction is joining the likes of The Clash, New Order, Primal Scream and Manic Street Preachers, who are among the acts to have picked up the Godlike Genius prize at the UK awards.
Avery has continually declined offers to reunite with the band and instead focused on his musical endeavors, most recently, a debut solo LP, "Help Wanted," released last week on Dangerbird Records. "I've chosen to reject the prospects of reuniting in the past for personal and philosophical reasons. I have always considered reunions to be a way to make a quick buck, and it sells short my own experience of it the first time around," Eric Avery attests. He adds, "The reason I started to even consider this is because it's honoring the past instead of trying to recreate it."
NME will bestow this award upon Jane's Addiction because, as they state, "[they've] done more than any other band to introduce American alternative music to the mainstream, founding the touring Lollapalooza Festival and giving what frontman Perry Farrell refers to as the 'alternative nation' a real cultural focus and voice."

"[they've] done more than any other band to introduce American alternative music to the mainstream" little ole' arrogant/useless NME should take some music history lessons before they come to the states. The Pixies & REM were doing 'alternative' music in the late 80's, and had more commercial success in my opinion, at least REM anyway. Jane's was great (having seen them back in 1990 for $18 bucks at MSG w/the Happy Mondays) but gone quicker then a locomotive.

Carbon/Silicon, the super power pairing of punk icons Mick Jones (The Clash) and Tony James (Generation X), will be performing at the inaugural NME Awards in Los Angeles on April 23rd, 2008 at the El Rey Theatre. They have just wrapped a cross-country US tour with band mates Leo ‘E-zee-Kill’ Williams (Big Audio Dynamite, Dreadzone) on bass guitar and Dominic Greensmith (Reef) on drums. Carbon/Silicon will cap off their trek with a performance at Coachella in April 25th.
Mick Jones, founding member of The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite and Carbon/Silicon will receive the Inspiration Award at the NME Awards USA ceremony.
Mick Jones was voted NME’s Godlike Genius in the UK with his Clash bandmates in 2003. Music fans can watch the awards on Wednesday in Los Angeles, including the performance from Carbon/Silicon, live on myspace/nmemagazine.com.
NME Editor Conor McNicholas says: “The Inspiration Award is hotly debated amongst the NME editors but the decision we reached was unanimous – Mick Jones is a true hero to NME. The Clash were the magnificent reason most of us got into alternative music in the first place, but Mick has never been one to rest on his laurels. With Big Audio Dynamite he pioneered sampling techniques and helped introduce hip-hop to reggae and rock. And still not content with that, he now fronts Carbon/Silicon, discovering yet more new ways to excite us. “Mick is an innovator, a visionary, a class songwriter, a great singer and a demon guitarist but that’s not all. He truly is an inspiration. His restless spirit recently drew him to produce The Libertines and to collaborate with Richard Archer of Hard Fi among others – Mick providing the young head on old shoulders… or should that be the other way round? Mick’s spirit, sense of mischief and dedication to the rock’n’roll cause make it a real pleasure and honor for NME to name him our Inspiration Award winner in 2008. We are also thrilled that Carbon/Silicon will be performing at the event and can’t wait to see what they’ve got up their sleeves on what promises to be a brilliant night.”
The NME Awards USA, will be streamed live on Myspace on April 23 at 9pm (PST). Hosted by Jim Jefferies, music fans will see performances from Carbon/Silicon, Jane's Addiction, The Lemonheads, Does It Offend You, Yeah? and Har Mar Superstar.

I saw the original line up in 1991 (Brisbane Australia) and it changed my life...art, pure art.
