DOWNLOAD: Dark Meat - Well Fuck You Then (MP3)
The Breeders' Mountain Battles is the album I most anticipated among this week's releases. Popmatters called it a "challenging classic" while the New York Sun called teh record "near-perfect indie rock." I wouldn't go that far, but Mountain Battles is refreshing in its lack of pretension, clever songwriting, and lo-fi loveliness.
Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy releases the aptly titled Colin Meloy Sings Live!. Other new releases I can strongly recommend include Cloud Cult's Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes), the expanded edition of Dark Meat's Universal Indians, Fleet Foxes' Sun Giant EP, Foals' Antidotes, Jim Noir's self-titled album, The Long Blondes' Couples, Neva Dinova's You May Already Be Dreaming, Richard Swift's Richard Swift as Onasis EP, Man Man's Rabbit Habits, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin's Pershing, and Wye Oak's If Children. Jason Anderson's new album, The Hopeful and the Unafraid, deserves a special mention, and is at the top of my shopping list.
Green Owl Compilation: a Benefit for the Energy Action Coalition is a compilation album benefiting the Energy Action Coalition, a group "made up of more than 40 organizations from across the U.S. and Canada, founded and led by youth to help support and strengthen the student and youth clean energy movement in North America." The two-disc set features tracks by Feist, Of Montreal, Bloc Party, Deerhoof, A Place to Bury Strangers, as well as many more indie rock acts. For the price of a single disc get 30 songs and help a good cause.
If you are a vinyl lover, you should enjoy the reissues this week. Three Mountain Goats albums get vinyl reissues: Tallahassee, We Shall All Be Healed, and The Sunset Tree. The other notable vinyl reissue this week is the Felice Brothers self-titled debut. On the CD reissue front, a double-disc remastered edition of the Microphones' Glow, Pt. 2 is available.

who cares

I don't care how much, but it's too bad people are being steered toward Amazon instead of say, Other Music. Which is where I'll be buying Cut Copy.

i enjoy supporting such places as Other Music, but if it's a mainstream band, i'll save the 4 bucks, buy from a chain store, and enjoy a cup of coffee while listening to my new cd. (of course after i get it home and load it on my ipod...)

Cloud Cult's Feel Good Ghosts is by far the best record of the year so far for me. every song is epic.

why not brew some coffee at home and buy it from other music digital if your going to load it on your ipod anyways?
