Lollapalooza 91

Jim DeRogatis is the guy who revealed all the Lollapalooza headliners the other day. Perry Farrell wasn't very happy about it, but that didn't stop Jim. He topped himself today by revealing the entire lineup on his Sun Times blog.....

Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2008 11:04 PM

Can't be real -- a festival without Jack Johnson?

Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2008 11:05 PM

Perry used to be cool.

Jim DeRogatis was never cool.

Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2008 11:06 PM

the kooks didn't make the cut... :(
still dope.

Posted by oscar | April 6, 2008 11:40 PM

i cant decide between lolla or outside lands in san fran. any thoughts?

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 12:10 AM

daft skunk is playing

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 12:11 AM

every other festival = owned

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 12:40 AM

lamest lineup ever. when i go to festivals, i want to hear bands that sounds like they should be at a festival

like jack johnson

screw this line up.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 1:14 AM

Yeah seriously... HOW CAN THEY DENY JACK JOHNSON LIKE THIS?>!?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 1:52 AM

No Jack Johmson? WTF?

Lollapalooza is so commercialized anyways.

Why isn't Interpol on the lineup?

Posted by dudebrah | April 7, 2008 3:11 AM

Jack Johnson sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 3:45 AM

i <3 jack johnson

Posted by poopnscoop | April 7, 2008 4:02 AM

not really any surprises...i think it could have been better...

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 5:41 AM

The good news is that somebody did listen to Jack Johnson, and realized that he SUCKS. It's music to make out with your girlfriend in a car when you are 15. It gets her in the mood, but you don't actually give a shit about anything he sings about...

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 7:04 AM

I think it's a great lineup, a lot of diversity, and plenty of new music that most people have not heard of.

Good headliners and new music is always good in my book.

Yeah it can be better, like Bowie headlining Saturday, a reunited Talking Heads closing out Sunday, the Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine opening for each band, etc. etc. but for what it is, pretty solid.

Not to mention you have the potential for 10-15 bands to be added (beef up the electronic aspect, etc), so yeah, very pleased.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 7:06 AM

This needs a hint of My Morning Jacket and a dash of Bon Iver. Still a tasteful line up nonetheless.

Posted by Narayan | April 7, 2008 8:49 AM

so many bands. but with that you are going to have a whole lot of crossover and probably would only be able to see a 1/3 of the bands on it. so

at least you know what you can actually see with APW -

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 8:51 AM

All the bashing about Jack Johnson... He makes good music for people who don't like music, there is nothing wrong with that, a little musak has never hurt anybody...

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 8:51 AM

Pretty damn good lineup, overall. I can't say I'm a huge fan anymore of these big festivals, though: you stand around all day in huge crowds to see most of the bands play a 20-40 minute set that usually heavily centers around the "hit songs." Fun if you're under 21, though.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 8:55 AM

yeah, because so many of those bands have "hit songs"

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 8:59 AM

very good line up.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 9:59 AM

Wowo - good lineup indeed, makes APW look like the dogshit festival it really is.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 10:00 AM

Dear anon 8:51 am...

Hate to burst your APW lovin buibble, but you aint gonna see shit at APW - with 40,000 people and one act playing... what do you think is going to happen?

APW is going to be terrible. At least we have choices.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 10:02 AM

Bon Iver at a festival like this would be completely underwhelming. He's best in intimate settings. Spoon, however, needs to make an appearance. For reals.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 10:03 AM

Ummm, Dave Matthews anyone? His music is magical - it transcends your trendy noise that you whiny hipsters listen to. He beats Jack Johnson and all of your other crappy bands.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 10:43 AM

so who is gonna play against each other on which nights you think?
gnarls vs raconteurs
kanye vs nin
rage vs radiohead?

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 10:43 AM

hope they add Jason Mraz and Stone Temple Pilots

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 11:19 AM

Jason Mraz > Jack Johnson

same crowd tho

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 11:37 AM

your body is a wonderland

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 11:45 AM

No Patti Smith?

Also, Perry Farrell not being very nice to that reporter, who is probably barely able to support himself doing his job, while Perry sits in a penthouse on millions of bucks.

Also, remember that Perry is the guy who championed that jerk/sexist/misogynist rapper who played the fest last year, the one who got booed opening for RHCP.
A move that made me scratch my head.

Still, good line-up and I will probably go to this.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 12:28 PM

"No Patti Smith?"

nope, sorry mom

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 12:39 PM

Nice to see some NY bands up there

MGMT
The Postelles
YEASAYER

Posted by Brooklyn | April 7, 2008 12:42 PM

C3 (lollapalooza and ACL) puts together a great environment and have things very well organized. Good crowd flow, never wait more then 2 min for the bathroom or to get a beer. The food lines can be long, but that’s my only complaint from the last 2 years.

Posted by tom | April 7, 2008 12:57 PM

Interpol is not on the line up bc they were a headliner last year.

What music fest is not commercialized? The big 4 are all sponsored (in some part) by AT&T and is the reason you can watch some of the performances on the Net.

Wakarusa Festival (KS hippy fest) has sponsors and while they are smaller companies they are still in the business of making money.

Posted by Fidel | April 7, 2008 1:09 PM

Thank you for letting me know what time Siouxsie goes on!

Posted by Lori | April 7, 2008 1:38 PM

Yet another Festival with too many acts.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 1:52 PM

Basically everybody gets 6 headliners (Mine being Radiohead, Kanye, BSS, The National, Bloc Party, Wilco) and at least 10 other bands in the span of 3 days. I live in Bklyn and all these bands will be here at one point or another but it would cost a ridiculous amount of time/money to see them all. This is an easy W.

Posted by BTW | April 7, 2008 1:55 PM

Porno for Pyros reunion please?

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 4:19 PM

Jetblue has $79 one way nyc->chicago tickets if you book them by april 16th

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 4:36 PM

I'm not impressed with any of these acts, save for Rage.

Last year was awesome and it sucks they can't get some more repeat acts. I'd rather watch Juliette and the Licks again then listen to half these bands.

and why is Blues Traveler still around? I thought the lead singer ate the rest of the band in 97'

Jack johnson has to be one of the most annoying people in the world.. every little annoying fuck likes jack johnson
i am glad he didnt get put no the lolla lineup now i dont have to hear about the lyrical depth and meaning behind banna pancakes...thank god

radiohead+nin=best line up ever
explosions and broken social scene will be god (if bss plays their earlier stuff)
wish daft punk would come back and it is also bitchy that death cab isnt there as i have never seen them and i can never find shows for them
