MIA thinks she is such a bad-ass. Hilarious.

MIA and santogold are too cute. man man guy has had better days...maybe.

M.I.A. must secretly hate Santogold for totally hijacking her sound/producer (Diplo). Oh, and her style.
Santogold went to a private school, then Wesleyan, then worked A&R at Epic before producing/rhyming.
She's pretty fucking pseudo.

Typical that Jesus would say something so irrelevant.

My thoughts are with you. I was thinking MIA is prolly not so psyched that Santogold is on her nuts so hard. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, though...or so they say.

Santogold and MIA toured together, so she can't hate her that much.

by your logic, every white indie rock boy band should hate every other white indie rock boy band
Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 6:17 PM
santogold is likely to break into the mainstream, something MIA has never been able to. surely there's going to be some resentment.

i don't think MIA band Santogold's styles are really that similar.

"i went to wesleyan. jesus i'm going to kick your fucking ass"
probably not, if you went to wesleyan.

Wesleyan? The only thing you'll be trying to do with my ass is grab it.
The point is that Santogold deliberately constructed this image/sound to ride the coattails of M.I.A. and capitalize on her niche fanbase that digs on M.I.A.'s brand of eclectic fashion/tunes.
And you're really gonna sit there and tell me "Creeper" doesn't sound like M.I.A.? That song is basically a Kala B-side, and fittingly, made its way into a Budweiser commercial even before the album's release.
On an unrelated note - M.I.A. looks fucking amazing in that photo.

Correction - not "Creeper," "Creator."
Been listening to that new Islands album lately....

Y'all are funny, thinking anyone makes money making music anymore! More hot black indie hipster rap/rockers, please!

is Santogold in her mid-40's?

I remember this other stupid poser guy, Robert Zimmerman. He totally hijacked blues and country and sold it to college kids... Nobody calls him out on it because he's got a Pulitzer now.

This is so interesting... Can you tell us a little bit more about her so we can better enjoy her music? I can't believe it, she went to Wesleyan, this is so grand. This site is so much better than People Magazine!

Anon 9:02 obviously did NOT go to Wesleyan.

I am offended that you would even consider Bob Dylan and M.I.A./Santogold in the same thought. You're comparing apples and horse shit, and you're not making a relevant point, either. Schmuck.

MIA has had so many issues with the US... first visa problems and then censorship on Letterman and on MTV. I wouldn't blame her for not wanting to be part of our mainstream scene here. Her work is more honest than that.
Santogold is different in that her politics (if there are any present in her music) are much more watered down. She's a much easier fit if you want a mainstream star in the vein of MIA. Her sound is also much more electro pop rock, where as MIA incorporates a lot more world music elements.
