My Bloody Valentine mapping US tour, curating All Tommorow's Parties fest in upstate New York

My Bloody Valentine

Frank Riley, the group's long time booking agent who started working with My Bloody Valentine more than two decades ago, confirms that the band will play shows in 6-8 U.S. cities.

Currently, only one show is confirmed: a headlining slot at the soon-to-be-announced All Tomorrow's Parties Festival in upstate New York the weekend of September 19-21. Kevin Shields is curating the event, which will be similar to the British promoter's weekend-long UK festivals at holiday camps in Camber Sands and Minehead. The New York weekender will be the first stand-alone U.S. All Tomorrow's Parties Festival since 2003 and 2004 events in Los Angeles.... [Daily Swarm]

UPDATE: Lineup below....

My Bloody Valentine
Built to Spill performing Perfect From Now On

"It will take place at Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, New York......In keeping with the spirit of the British ATPs, ATP New York is really, really small. As in, only 3000 people get to go. And you all live on the site for three days, staying in motel and hotel rooms. No single day passes will be available. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 25, at the ATP website." [Pitchfork]

awesome lineup, but it's going to be near impossible to convince by girlfriend to stay a weekend in upstate ny to see a lineup like that.

anyone else going to have this problem? this is a music geeks wet dream, but it's going to be hard to convince groups to go.

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 8:36 PM

People should buy a ticket for themselves and then just meet up online and go together-it will be a way to meet new people. If you want to go, then just go. That's what I'm considering doing.

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 8:42 PM

who cares if no one else goes, fuck them i am going. i have a feeling these will be gone fast

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 8:43 PM

"awesome lineup, but it's going to be near impossible to convince by girlfriend to stay a weekend in upstate ny to see a lineup like that."

Could be a great place to meet a new girlfrind...

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 8:44 PM

"this is a music geeks wet dream, but it's going to be hard to convince groups to go."

if it was appealing to groups, it would probably be cheaper and not only open to 3,000 capacity

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 8:48 PM

Monticello is not far at all, right on route 17 going to Binghamton.

"but it's going to be near impossible to convince by girlfriend to stay a weekend in upstate ny to see a lineup like that."

I agree!

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 8:53 PM

MBV and Built to Spill are amazing and must sees. But the rest of the lineup is meh (not terrible, but not amazing). MBV is playing NYC later this fall. So this isn't worth three days in Monticello.

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 9:01 PM

It's obvious that BV commenters know nothing about ATP. People travel from MANY other countries to attend. ATP (the UK festivals, in particular) is so much more special than any other music festival in the world. You really don't realize just how special ATP is until you go.

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 9:01 PM

It's $225 + booking fee each. That's for the whole weekend, there are no single day passes. It really sucks. Hopefully Mogwai will play some other shows while they're in the state. NYC, please? MBV will definitely book at least one formal show in NYC as well. Maybe not around the same time, but yeah.

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 9:10 PM

"MBV is playing NYC later this fall. MBV will definitely book at least one formal show in NYC as well. Maybe not around the same time, but yeah."

I doubt it, why would they? their biggest draw will be from NYC. And you think they will come back? I think that's risky bet.

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 9:39 PM

You people are insane. This is the greatest news I've ever heard.

Posted by maitai | April 22, 2008 9:39 PM

Will they announce the second half of the lineup by Friday? Because right now I don't think I could coerce any friends into buying $225 tix for that.

Posted by feedbacker | April 22, 2008 9:41 PM

Lame = no forewarning about this and tickets are on sale Friday. They will be gone by Monday no doubt.

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 9:44 PM

I doubt they will announce 2nd part of lineup, they never do, its always a rollout based on sales. around $700 with a hotel on-site

Posted by nick | April 22, 2008 11:22 PM

although mbv & built to spill playing 'perfect from now on' is neat and all the ticket price is ridiculous.

i agree with anon 9:01pm...while you trust-fund hipsters go to binghamton, spend $500+, and feel like you're experiencing something really special and unique, i'll stay here and wait for mbv to announce 2-3 show stay at hammerstein ballroom in october and spend my money on shitty coke.

You fucking shithead douchebag, they have only announced the first half of the lineup. There are 15 more acts to be announced plus DJ'S!!! Trust me, surprises are in store when they announce the second half.

As for the rest of you....
1)yes its a shitty festival so dont bother
2)you will not be able to get your friends in groups or your girlfriends to all go so dont bother
3)the ticket prices are too high for most of you so dont bother

Please dont bother to try and get tickets to this festival. Thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2008 11:46 PM

$500 for this sounds about right. considering you get housing for 3 days that ain't bad. bands, permits, staff, PA equipment and a lot more all require money, people.

Posted by jason | April 23, 2008 12:17 AM

Q- How Do I Get To The Site?

The site is less than a 2 hour drive from New York City.

Alternatively you can get a Bus from the NY Port Authority Bus Terminal to Monticello. There are many buses throughout the day and it costs approx $58 return.

This service is run by shortline, there is a link to timetable below.

ATP will also be running some buses, further information to be announced soon.

Buffy and I can't wait to get up the Catskills! See MBV, hit the links, take a dip in the indoor pool... How very civilized! If only all "rock n' roll" performances had such amenities. And only several hundred dollars with accomodation? Simply divine!

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 7:49 AM

Ok so $225 + $150 (room) + booking fees = ~$400......hmmm so it says MBV will be playing in 6-8 US cities....will there be proper NYC gig???

Potential Cities....
1) LA
2) Chicago
3) Boston
4) DC
5) somwhere in TX
6) San Francisco
7) ATP
8) ......NYC???

'frank Riley, the group's long time booking agent who started working with My Bloody Valentine more than two decades ago...'

how much money has this guy made on this band in the n past 15 years? probably not much.

honestly, this holy grail of bands shit is really out of control. i saw MBV in 92 here in nyc yeah it was good, but really not AMAZING. they can not replicate the 'sound' live, and honestly kevin sheilds is such a wet blanket(i.e. throwing away records that hes done), ive moved on from them like the apathetic, indecisive girlfriend i was once in love with.

so here it goes.
this band is not relevant anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 8:28 AM

do they make you get a hotel stay with a ticket purchase? i live in rockland county about an hour's drive and would much prefer to just drive in each day than shell out hundreds for a hotel stay.

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 8:41 AM

when i woke up this morning and saw this bit of news, i laughed thinking about all of the negative turds who would post about it on this site. you haven't disappointed, douchebags! what a great festival. i'd pay to see at least six or eight of these bands individually, and they'll announce more. nice little vacation in the catskills? come on, it's going to be amazing. hopefully the scarcity and price of tickets will keep some of the riffraff out, including the fucktards who post on this forum so often. all points west is another story, i'm sure we'll see a lot of you there in spite of all the complaining.

all those super excited to see MBV, be aware that they were awful when they toured in the early 90s -- everything was turned up to maximum volume (definitely the loudest show I've ever seen, out of 1000+) so that it was impossible to discern anything; all of the songs were one painful wall of noise. Of course, if that's your thing, then dive right in . . .

Posted by oldfart | April 23, 2008 10:16 AM

MBV = overrated

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 10:20 AM

I did see MBV in the '90s, and while I wouldn't call them awful, they weren't good either. I'm going for Shellac, Meat Puppets and Autolux.

If the person whose credit card is used cannot be present, a photocopy of the front and back of their card along with the email confirmation letter they received when purchasing the tickets will be required. "

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 12:47 PM

does anyone have experience here with the ticket buying process at atp? will there be a point where tickets have been reserved and held before payment is made? point being, can i have my three friends simultaneously attacking the server, and still have time to call off the dogs when and if one of us is able to get in? otherwise, if they just have you click "buy tickets" without knowing whether or not you've got them, the possibility of ending up with duplicates that are next to useless is daunting..

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 1:51 PM

is this gonna be 18 and over?

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 2:53 PM

If a bear shits at ATP, will you buy a pass?

Posted by greg | April 23, 2008 3:02 PM

i doubt it'll be 18 over, not since the capacity will only be 3000 people, and the booking of hotel rooms is involved. it really isn't worth the extra insurance costs, and hassle to let minors in.

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 3:06 PM

so it will be 18 and over?

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 3:08 PM

anon 1:51

i went to the ATP with Portishead this last winter and once you click on "buy tickets" you can expect to be charged on your card.

that show held around 6,000 total i think and it took a 4 months or so for that one to sell out. not sure exactly but it was very far from an instant sell out.

once you go to buy your tickets i'm pretty sure it'll be obvious that you have secured your entry.

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 3:19 PM

i'm thinking demand for this kind of thing is very high, even pent up, in this market, esp. with mbv headlining. 3000 tickets could go in five minutes easily, even at these prices.

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 3:47 PM

are you guys insane? Thurston played for 10 bucks a ticket at Knit, and Meat Puppets was I think 15 bucks at Europa (i forget but it wasnt much more) all the rest of the bands prob play for 8 bucks a ticket. This is the most out of insane overpriced tickets Ive ever seen.

In comparison pitchfork is 50 bucks for the weekend!

Haters be gone. This is amazing that this fest has finally made its way to the states and it seems that the whole scene will be amazing. This is just the confirmed lineup now. Since this seems to be the year of reunions, I am sure more and more goodies will be finding their ways here.

And Bowery Presents is probably right. When Slint got back together for ATP they played 2 parties in London and then started a tour of the US right after. I expect MBV will do something similar.

Posted by bob | April 23, 2008 8:16 PM

mbv may very well play nyc after this festival, but the venue is almost guaranteed to be terminal 5, in which case no one wins.

Posted by bob | April 23, 2008 8:44 PM

neone know if there are camp grounds (free?) closeby...

can considerably pay for a ticket but not accomadations

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 2:40 PM

people need to get out of the city everyone once in a lifetime. sullivan county is gorgeous. you have the catskill mtns in the background and the lakes at your feet. a little further out on 17, are livingston manor and roscoe, two idyllic catskill towns. worth a look.

i've been by this "venue" and it looks pretty dumpy, more like a camp or compound than a country club. this area is hasidim heaven and they only come in the summer so annual upkeep is at a minium. hotel reviews on trip advisor are horrible. get your friends together and rent a cabin for the weekend for the same price or camp nearby.

Posted by mr mr | April 24, 2008 4:50 PM

I think a parallel could be drawn between the amount of time bands wait to reunite and the way wine is aged. Is the time just right for MBV? I would be a bit surprised if they don't play a proper show in NYC proper.

Posted by Sha-na-na-nonymous | April 24, 2008 8:21 PM

"Performances all take place indoors at the intimate venues within the complex, so you have no need to fear about the weather!"

Posted by klk | April 25, 2008 10:09 AM

Indoors? WTF?

How did I miss that? My friends and I are all making arrangements to go, but after reading that, we will wait before deciding. $225 for an indoor show?

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 10:10 AM

Shows will commence after bingo and before the evening travel slides presentation.

Posted by drewo | April 25, 2008 10:20 AM

it's gonna get cold up there at night in late september. and much worse if it rains. besides, the sound will be better inside. get over it, there will be plenty of time to spend outside.

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 1:15 PM

Tickets without Accomadations are all sold out. All that's left are 6-7 person "berths" plus tix. Pricey for sure, but you ladies and gents don't believe that this is going to be f*cking amazing? Even if the concerts are indoors, all the crazy sh*t is going down late night on the property. My only concern is the quality of the PA system. I'm no trust fund baby, I work a 9-5 to pay my $60k in student loans, so its definitely hitting my wallet hard but it will be all worth it fa sho. I've been camping around Livingston Manor/Monticello for years, and its true the Hasidem is going to be in full force but they won't be @ ATP, trust that. Way off topic but the Willowemoc Creek has crazy trout (legendary for it)if you're into the fishing game.
