'MySpace Music Won't Give Equity to Indie Bands'

mom jokes

Three of the four major labels have become partners in MySpace Music, which will extend MySpace's current musical offerings to merchandise, song downloads and more. Listening Post cited concern on the part of The Orchard, an aggregator of indie bands and labels, that the indie bands who built MySpace as a music destination would not be made partners in MySpace Music. Money generated from advertising on indie bands' profile pages will flow, in part, to the major labels. Wasn't the internet supposed to be about routing around this sort of damage? [WIRED]

what do you mean what? money generated by adds are not going to YOU, they are going into someone elses pockets! ask bv if he thinks thats a great idea.

"ask bv if he thinks thats a great idea."

A better analogy: Ask the AP if it's a great idea that BV gets ad revenue when he reposts their copyrighted content without paying them a fee.

ads viewed on major label's band page -> revenue to major label

ads viewed on indie band's page -> revenue to major label

"ads viewed on major label's band page -> revenue to major label

ads viewed on indie band's page -> revenue to major label"

THAT is exactly the issue here
