at least this flyer is SLIGHTLY more artistic than 132 resident Alex Mallory's heinous tattoos

always good to see rich white kids hating on cops who get paid 20 grand to get shot at so that said kids can feel safe when gentrifying...cause THAT always made sense

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:35 PM

new york city cops are assholes, plain and simple. they're corrupt imbeciles. and no, this isn't from a rich hipster kid who moved to bushwick from connecticut a year ago.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:46 PM

hey 1:46, maybe when you get robbed at knifepoint or mugged, you can tell those 23k earning cops that when they save your sorry, wimpy ass.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:49 PM

My prediction for this show tonight - cops

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:53 PM

already happened, to me and every other member of my family. the cops, predicatbly, sat on their fat asses. but i'm sure they appreciate all your love. next time they shut down an awesome venue, you should tell them.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:54 PM

I suppose you have access to bank records of the person that made this flyer and can therefore determine they are rich (always a relative term you know). I suppose you also know where they were born, where they live now, and the color of their skin, so you can determine they are "gentrifiers" (a dubious term indeed). Shut it fathead. Let the kidz have fun. Also, the anthropomorphic pig cop is simply enjoying himself unleashing that nuclear fart on the Maxell guy. It's not like he's beating a hippy at the 68 DNC or asasinating Barak Obama or something. AAAANND he is letting us in on the joke as is clearly evidenced by the wink. We all want to be in on the joke don't we? Is that what's wrong? You felt left out of the joke? Sorry friend.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:02 PM

cops have never been about "saving and protecting" people. cops are about the authority of the state. think quality of life. giving people tickets for having their feet on subway seats, busting people for smoking weed. stopping and frisking kids for being black. that kind of bullshit. that is 90% of what being a cop is. especially the rookies, who are the ones making 23K.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:04 PM

agree with what you're saying on a broader level, and I think there's a way to go about trying to affect change (for example policy change that could give more lenience to show-throwing) I just am sick of hearing kids bash the individual officers, who aren't responsible for policy...full disclosure, it's a difficult subject since I support all of these shows (and I've put on illegal shows myself), but I come from basically an entire family of NYPD officers past and present, you can see the conflict there

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:28 PM

believe me boss, nobody was trying to affect any change with this flyer.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:43 PM

cops shouldn't be busting up shows. period.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:50 PM

who should bust up illegal shows then? Some sort of "NYC show-busting squad?" You can't just let people invite a band to play in a room somewhere and call it "a venue".

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:55 PM

yes you can

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:07 PM

might have missed the joke

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:07 PM

wtf is an ILLEGAL SHOW... please enlighten. underage kids drinking?? OH NOES!!!111
people not paying outrageous door charges?? people making noise??? in a city??? on a friday night?!?!1111?!?!!? OH NOES!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:11 PM

you're right... they should abolish all building safety codes. Promoter kids know more about building safety anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:13 PM

people who open "legal" venues are suckers. They should all just do it Todd P style and hope for the best.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:14 PM

a pig in a police uniform (or maybe a metro north conductor's uniform) farting a small mushroom cloud, bare bottomed, on the guy from the maxell add. that's the joke. that's all it needs to be.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:21 PM

oh, and i almost forgot, the pig is winking.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:22 PM

I don't think the pig is winking. I think that is just his eye closing cause he is letting out a huge mega fart. My eye squints when i do that

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 4:04 PM

saying "all cops are assholes" is like saying "all black males are criminals" or "all white people are bland." does not work.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 4:28 PM

my friend is a cop and he's a total dick, and he's good at his job

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 4:36 PM

hey mallory, aren't you the guy whose father was the creepy landlord who shut down that great club Folk City--the club that everyone from bob dylan to sonic youth started at -- because it was "too noisy." i just read about it. And now you're putting on shows that are getting closed down. beautiful karma.

Posted by pietro | April 4, 2008 5:28 PM

yeah man, that guy stinks.

we know you dumb hipsters don't get punk, everytime you feel like proving it to us again by getting indignant over some half-assed punk show flier, listen to the dirty projectors covering black flag instead. that way that shit will be good for something

Posted by andy | April 4, 2008 6:24 PM

anon 1:46 didn't move to bushwick from connecticut a year ago...it was two years ago, back when things were real.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 6:37 PM

that sucks about mallory's father. i heard that was a cool club.

Posted by nadine | April 4, 2008 7:59 PM

mallory's father had Folk City closed cause it was making too much noise? hahahaha --that's funny considering what his kid now does. i guess what goes around comes around. no one deserves the bad karma more.

Posted by r.i.s. | April 4, 2008 8:04 PM

i'm sorry. is this about sound fix and the rumor of them not disclosing the lounge as a music venue or something?

i'm sort of unclear as to how this debate started. thanks.

I am Alex Mallory. When my dad bought the second floor and the commercial space it was a bar called the black kettle and the other half was a 99 cent clothing store. My dad is an art history professor who got lucky and a made a good investment. He had nothing to do with folk city. Anyway, hope everyone had a good time

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2008 3:59 AM

wow - that is so not true alex -- you should ask your dad -- folk city was in that location well before your father bought his coop. In 1986 your father was instrumental in not renewing Folk City's lease. His complaint was that the music was too loud. And from what's written he was not very nice about it. It's documented in many places. He's been lying to you if he told you differently.

Posted by music historian | April 5, 2008 9:36 AM

I just logged on to comment about the show. But I coulnd't help catch this Folk City thread. First of all, Alex, there was no club called the Black Kettle. Second of all, I've heard you tell people that your father owned Folk City. So what else do you lie about?

Posted by I am watching you | April 5, 2008 11:47 AM

guys I lived there when I was a boy, I remember what was downstairs

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2008 11:57 AM

If Mallory's father had a problem with noise its weird that the village underground--also a music venue--is now where folk city once was.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2008 12:40 PM

If you lived there as a boy--umm, could that be AFTER Folk City was evicted? It's documented everywhere- Folk City was there until 1986. Can't change reality to make daddy look better.
And the Village Underground was in the basement, not on the ground floor where Folk City was. The Kettle of Fish bar moved into the ground floor there right after Folk City was kicked out. Your dad screwed the famous Kettle of Fish as well.

Posted by Anonymous | April 5, 2008 12:51 PM

intersting thread -- mallory, some legacy you got there from dear ol dad.

Posted by admiral | April 5, 2008 12:59 PM

it's funny you're all saying the same thing -- alex is saying there was no Folk City there when i was a kid and everyone else is saying yeah- that's cause your dad evicted them.

Posted by babbling brooklyn | April 5, 2008 1:28 PM

ok guys this isnt a third grade social studies paper

somebody show us all some documentation, and we can all shut the fuck up and enjoy some punk rock

Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2008 2:19 AM
