only call Jasper to book you at Rehab if you want your gig moved the day of to some other venue or if you want to find out when you show up for your set that you're playing an hour earlier or later than you had been advertising for the last month - he's good like that

isn't ironic taking that he just left a long rehab
stint himself?

also email jasper if you want to get paid only a quarter or what you were guaranteed.

Jasper's a cool guy. Booked a shitload of good bands over the years at Pianos back before it turned into snootyville in that front room. Talk about a fucking comical scene.

^^ True that. And BV can't get enough.

One of the guys in Place to Bury Strangers bartends in Pianos' front room

"that front room."
One of the good things about the new bar in the show room at Pianos is you can watch a show without ever having to go out there.

The space of rehab has had more identity changes than my transsexual prostitute has had in the last decade. That space is doomed.

i heard pianos isn't going to do live music pretty soon, thats why theyre putting a bar where the downstairs music area is. also, i agree wholeheartedly, jasper is very rude indeed.

"i heard pianos isn't going to do live music pretty soon, thats why theyre putting a bar where the downstairs music area is."
Where did you hear that? I think they put a bar in the live music room so they didnt have to get rid of the live music part (aka more alcohol sales justify keeping it open).

Lay off Jasper, it's a very thank-less job, and if dug your band, he usually pulled through. The payment situations at ALL LES bars is terrible, that isn't Jasper's fault. Not to mention If you're doing it for money maybe you should play weddings? Lord knows they make a shitload more then any of the bands reading this blog anyway.

I've met Jasper and he's a good guy. Quit hating.

I also have to say that Jasper is a cool guy. He booked my old band plenty of times. He's always been doing what he could to try and create a local scene and promote the bands he likes as much as he is able. How people can hate on that is beyond me. At least he's out there and doing something instead of sitting around and complaining on the internets.

no doubt that its a thankless job, and you certainly can't please everybody, and he may be cool if you're friends with him, but he jerked a lot of bands around with set times (forget about payment - if you don't draw, you don't make much , period.)
three times in a row my band was jerked around by him, once calling us at 6 to tell us our 9pm slot was moving to a different club because gear wasn't working (when in actuality someone block booked the room at the last minute for cash - fair enough, business is business.)
Trying to deal with an unnecessary, last minute set time change, he flew off the handle and started throwing shit. There's actually some great people booking clubs in this city, believe it or not. Jasper in my opinion isn't one of them

Hey All...
My sincerest apologies if I ever threw stuff, lied, cheated, or jerked around any band. I was most likely majorly coked up at the time, hence the long (22 days) stint in actual rehab, which is why I left Pianos in August of last year.
All that stuff (drugs, double-booking, etc.) completely got in the way of what I love and made me lose sight of why I got into this biz in the first place, the amazing bands.
Anyways, it's a fresh start here at REHAB - no chairs tossed yet nor coke benders - can't stop the haters, but definitely trying to send some love from Ave B.
Best,
Jasper

Hats off Jasper.
As a fellow booker I know the madness that goes into putting on these events and how thankless it can be sometimes.
When you book 40 plus bands a week some people just will not be happy.
I knew Jasper before he ever booked Pianos and was just someone who went out night after night, creating his blog for the pure love of the bands.
Happy to hear that you are clean and living well.

I posted about set times and stuff and having bad experiences with Jasper - anyway, definitely appreciated your post, Jasper, glad to hear you're well. No malice meant on my part - I certainly know booking NYC clubs isn't easy - good luck on Ave B - cheers
