Portishead are playing a show in LA on April 24th (before Coachella) but you have to win tix to get in or something. In related news, the NY Times has a feature on the band in today's paper...
Mr. Barrow is a studio creature who gets no pleasure from performing live. "I've never liked it, and I never will," Mr. Barrow said. "I don't feel any connection between me and the people listening to it. I way prefer to release records and have my connection be like that."Also, you can now watch that online performance on Current TV or below.....

having real trouble getting into this album - just seems they cobbled together some half-formed song ideas and jams. no cohesion, no spine, and after an eleven year wait it all adds up to a big disappointment.
but i guarantee that it will get praised for its "obtuse brilliance" and "haunting dissonance" without admitting that it just isn't that good.

Incredible album, very nice links BV.
It's amazing to me when people complain that music nowadays is derivative and there isn't anything original anymore. But when a band actually does something original and different it's dismissed/ridiculed because it doesn't fit their view of what music should be.

not much "original" to be found on third. their aping kraftwerk, and the like, much of the time...and it doesn't work. her tortured vocals become more of a moan after a while. i will still, happily, listen to the first two albums, which are both, uniformly, brilliant.
