Prince @ Coachella, Indio, CA - pics, video & setlist

The main stage at Coachella Saturday night went Kraftwerk --> Portishead --> Prince. That single four hour period makes me wish I wasn't just watching Coachella from my computer.
The Prince portion of the show already has a discussion going. Now here's the rest of the pictures (Morris Day & Sheila E included). Video and setlist (Radiohead cover included) below too.....

He took Creep to epic proportions, amazing!

Prince proved he's got Jesus blood up in his shit. Dude got more chops than a bucket of pork. Morris Day proved he's still more pimp than ever. You know this. The day was amazing, the boomers helped make it fan-fucking-radical, but Prince owned that mother.

I am so glad most of you losers got to see Prince play. Now please do not come to the real Prince shows and ruin it for those of us who have been tearing it up with him for years.

Ever occur to you Anon 1:32 that the reason we haven't been able to "tear it up" with him for years is because we were too young to attend one of his concerts, you old hag?
Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 4:55 AM
That Instrumental jam mentioned in the setlist is actually Santana's Soul sanctuary.
Prince is a freezerburn compared to cool !!

Nice, 4:55am. Considering his 15 or so years of crap recorded output, why would anyone under the age of 25 be compelled to see him? When I was growing up, the Stones had a song out called 'The Harlem Shuffle', so I never got why they were so idolized until 20 years later. Relevance really is subjective. Good for Prince for not tarnishing his legacy, but it IS telling that this show featured so many of his 'posse': it's a good time for him to re-educated.

Er, re-educate... sorry, pre-coffee.

Yeah, too bad the guy started almost 30 minutes late. And starting with Morris Day made half the crowd bail. Smooth move.

Ever occur to you that you are fucking douchebag who knows nothing. If 29 is an old hag then yes i am way too old. Did it ever occur to you that maybe i just happened to actually be cool growing up and had older siblings who took me to shows starting when i was 13. Did it ever occur to you that you are using the excuse of being too young but the truth is you probably were a dungeons and dragon playing loser growing up who suddenly after college moved to brooklyn and bought a couple of records and now think you are a cool hipster. Yeah that sounds more like it.

On Saturday, April 28th at roughly 2:30 PST, I had the pleasure of being one of the first human beings to ever travel through time, beyond the continuum and into the past. It was a most unexpected trip, as my team, consisting of Janglesen Research Grant winner Joshua Mitchell Bingham and Wookie Field Researcher George Taylor Pinson, originally was slated to attend a musical festivus in the Indio Valley commonly known Coachella. That was not to be.
Upon reaching the entrance to the much heralded Indio Polo Fields where the event was scheduled to commence, we became aware of certain anomalies in the time continuum. Most notably, the current, modern population of hipsters and shin-diggers had been replaced by none other than Ferris Bueller himself. What really made this apparent to us was that Ferris Beuller had somehow replaced the mind, body and space of not one but thousands of young lads (and even lasses). Yes, everywhere we gazed, Ferris cackled, whipping his feathered bangs away from his Ray Bans as he adjusted his sweet, bright purple Izod collar, proudly popped up into the "Attitude" position.
It became clear; somehow Beuller had cloned himself and sent these evil beings into our future in
an attempt to gain control of our government, thereby enforcing a, "party all the time" platform that would tear apart the very fabric of our society. Our concern for the planet's well being became all that mattered.
We were small in numbers, being only three men that grew up in the 80's and remembered the damage these douche bags had done in their given time. We feared that our lack of man power could do nothing against the Beullers' neo-preppie-raver-coke head might. When all seemed lost, Professor Pinson noted a presence on the horizon.
Sent by some benevolent presence in the past (maybe Doc or Marty) was a veritable army of Fondas...aerobics instructors poised to send these evil Beullers back to hell. Aye, some of these Fondas had male sex parts. Bounding about the field in purple and lime green leotards, biker shorts and Porche shades, they reminded all the Beullers that there was plenty of fashion from the '80s even more absurd and retard ready than their fabrics.
Tempted though we were to simply join one of these armies and join the war, we remembered a crucial part of our past. Never, even when we roamed alongside these Beullers and Fondas in their natural habitats, never, I SAY NEVER did we succumb to their evil powers and ever pop our collars, wear biker shorts, feather our shit (maybe a little), wear slatted shades or neon colored hats that appeared to have been sat upon. Remembering this, we felt now was not the time to join into this hideous war. Instead, we dropped back into the darkness and wandered upon a assembly of carnival freakers that had obviously come from a distant future to join this Time War. Satisfied that these Future-nauts could safely defend us from the Beullers and Fondas, we shimmied to their future rock and waited for our Prince to arrive.
At long last, our Prince rode in on a beautiful steed named Morris Day. He blessed us with his presence and reminded us that he has been the Prince since all the way back to the time of Beullers and Fondas. Yes, he was there, but somehow he was also more future than any motherfucker around. Ah...now we saw it. The Prince was the Time Master. It was he who bridged the Beullers and Fondas to the Future-nauts. Prince. He must have brought these people back from visits to his past and his future.
Believing the Prince was all powerful and knowing he'd return time to normalcy by sunrise, we happily left the fate of this war in his great hands. Sure enough, when we awoke in our hotel the next morning, we noticed there were only a few Fondas and Beullers hanging around the premises; the last to be transported back to their natural times. Thankful to be alive and to have survived as hideous a battle as we had witnesses, we piled into our Lesbaru and hurried for Hollywood.

anon 2:43, no matter how many fingers and toes you can count the times you've seen Prince on, I'm positive you have still never been cool. Evidence supports this conclusion. Sorry. Douche.

the instrumental was a cover of Soul Sacrifice by Santana; believe it's on the Moonflower record...
