Prince @ the Coachella Music Festival - April 26, 2008

You are the coolest place on earth right now!" Prince declared to a sea of tens of thousands. The rest of Ryan Muir's photos from the evening are HERE.Prince, who had been sought out to perform at Coachella since the festival was founded nine years ago, told the crowd that when he agreed to perform, he informed the organizers that he would not only play, but party too.
True to his word, Prince then launched his band -- complete with a horn section and background singers -- into "Jungle Love." Morris Day came out to sing his song, while Prince strolled around the stage with his guitar.
For the beginning of the show, Prince preferred to let his guitar do the talking. He also welcomed the singer and drummer Sheila E, who took the lead for a song and then joined Prince in an extended jam.
Finally, Prince satisfied the crowd with a celebratory performance of "1999." His classic "Little Red Corvette" soon followed. [AP]

Which 'head song did he cover?
My guess/hope is "The National Anthem". That would kick ass if Prince covered that.

"One of the big surprises of Prince's concert was his cover of Radiohead's "Creep," which was sure to be one of Coachella's most talked-about performances. With some lyrics adjusted, a ripping guitar solo and extended falsetto crooning for a finale, Prince's "Creep" had the crowd slack-jawed."

Greetings from Coachella and Prince was amazing. The sound was a bit off (compared to the Verve who sounded outrageous the night before). THe setlist was crazy good. I'm sorry but Lolla and Bonnaroo...keep trying, you'll get there someday.
Rogers Waters tonight and back home to NY...thank the gods.

Ahahahahah awwww look at the little kids who have never been to see Prince play one of his full set shows or his small after party club shows. Thats cute that you think you got the Prince show to beat all others. Sorry kids, this set list is good but nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary to make it a truly special Prince event. Always amazing to see Prince anywhere but does this beat say the show at Butter 2 years ago. Ahhh i dont think so.

You asshole, anon 12:03. dont you dare try and rain on these "little kids" parade! i have seen Prince plenty of times, ranging from small clubs to MSG and this set is great! throwing in that you went to that "Butter" show is quite lame of you. I chose not to and i am certainly not kicking myself for I have seen Prince many more times than you i am sure and with much better setlists. This setlist is nothing special As someone who claims to have seen Prince many times i am sure you know that he has played Creep before. Truth hurts fuckwad. Get over it.

this has nothing to do with "dealing with the truth" or being "bitter"...
it has only to do with the fact that you, anon 12:03, are a gigantic asshole.
do us all a favor and go fuck yourself.

In FACE he told you? What does that mean? Calm down Rob before you type again. Raging and typing often cause mistakes like that.

It actually has everything to do with "dealing with the truth" and being "bitter". And who the fuck do you think YOU are. Who is "all". Who made you the spokesman for everyone or does thinking that your opinions speak for everyone not classify you as a gigantic douchebag.
Relax loser and just chill. You get mad cause someone points out that this was not in fact the greatest Prince show ever or really a special set as Prince sets go. Sorry it is the truth to deal with.

the sound for Prince was way way off....total bummer. Perhaps all of the sound crew were put to sleep by that Portishead set....
Posted by Anonymous | April 27, 2008 4:00 PM
the sound was truly horrible. it ruined the whole performance. what a bummer. yeah i know its prince so it should be awesome anyway, but it kinda sucked. portishead was a snoozefest.

i was at the Butter show as well, and that show sucked in comparison to other ones i've been to, before and since.
loser.

I have seen Prince a few times, and his best shows happen to be the bigger ones. I think he lives off of the audience. I wasn't at the Butter show, but I did see him at Club Exit, and that by far was the "least interesting" (but still damn good) Prince show I have seen. In comparison, the MSG shows were ten times better.
I would love to see him outdoors, that setlist is great for a festival.

You were not at Butter. No one who went to the Butter show would say something so idiotic. It actually is considered by most Prince fans to be one of the best shows he has done in the last couple of years. Nice try dickhead.

Here we have another moron. Prince's most legendary and best shows have been the small club, after shows at small clubs and private shows at his house. Not giant stadium shows or festivals. Club Exit was a great show and totally interesting but that was not considered a small show. Club Exit for those of you who dont know is now Terminal 5. I am guessing you have not been to many if any at all of his small shows.

Prince killed at this legendary house party, and I was lucky enough to be in attendance. He schooled us in basketball afterward; he kept setting all these fruity picks. Then he made us pancakes.
Bitches.

His Coachella set was better than the last time I saw him on October 11, 1981. Longer, at least.

That's quite the assumption. How can you vouch for so many people (or at least all who attended the Butter show) when you yourself said,
"Who made you the spokesman for everyone or does thinking that your opinions speak for everyone not classify you as a gigantic douchebag."
Posted by Anonymous | April 27, 2008 1:13 PM
By the way, that last sentence needs commas and a question mark.

Portishead sound was amazing -- I heard the bass thump at the Calvin Harris tent -- hundred of yards away. Disappointed Prince's sound wasn't as good. Guess you had to be between the stage and soundboard to feel it.
Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 3:08 AM
You're all wrong. The best Prince show ever was way back in 84' when he was getting his big start. It was at 1st ave in Minneaapolis. The entensity of that show was amazing. You could tell that something was bothering him, but he just put that energy into the performance. After "Let's go crazy" he ran off stage and from what I'm told, smashed a mirror in his dressing room and then came back out to sing Purple Rain.
I also have a high-school friend named Rosanna who got hit on the head and thought that she was Madonna.
