Lollapalooza

Lollapalooza 2008 headliners confirmed
Lollapalooza's Austin, Texas-based promoters C3 Presents are not scheduled to make their official announcement of the acts performing at this year's weekend-long music festival in Grant Park until Monday, but the Sun-Times has confirmed through industry sources all of the major artists.

Art-rock giants Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, the reunited Rage Against the Machine, Jack White's side project the Raconteurs and hometown heroes Wilco and Kanye West will headline the main stages on Aug. 1-3.

The Raconteurs, Wilco and West will each be making their second appearance at the reinvented destination festival. Other repeaters among the more than 100 acts on this year's bill are Gnarls Barkley, the Black Keys, Broken Social Scene, G. Love & Special Sauce, Blues Traveler and Mates of State.

Quite a few of the other acts -- including many of the most promising -- have earlier performed at Chicago's two independently produced music festivals, Pitchfork and Intonation. These include Bloc Party, Cat Power, Stephen Malkmus, Girl Talk, Kid Sister, Office, the Cool Kids, Battles, the Go! Team, Jamie Lidell and Grizzly Bear.

Advance three-day passes are now on sale for a limited time for $190 (after which the price increases to $205) at www.lollapalooza.com. [Chicago Sun Times] (thx Hiro)

Fest of the year.

Believe it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 12:08 AM

uncanny

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 12:09 AM

The only bad thing about Lollapalooza is the headliners will play at the same time each night.....
Friday-Radiohead vs ?
Saturday-Rage Against the Machine vs ?
Sunday-Nine Inch Nails vs ?

I'm hoping it will be like this.....
Friday-Radiohead vs Kanye West
Saturday-Rage Against the Machine vs The Raconteurs
Sunday-NIN vs Wilco

but I know it will end up being.....
Friday-Radiohead vs Wilco
Saturday-RATM vs Kanye West
Sunday-NIN vs The Raconteurs

All Points What?

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 12:14 AM

Friday-Radiohead vs Wilco
Saturday-RATM vs Kanye West
Sunday-NIN vs The Raconteurs

would suck

I'm hoping for

Friday-Radiohead vs The Raconteurs
Saturday-RATM vs Wilco
Sunday-NIN vs Kanye West

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 12:30 AM

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 12:38 AM

Can you say Broken Mother****** Social Scene?!

They're back!

p.s. Yesayer and Gogol B are also playing.....hot damn!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 12:45 AM

Broken Mother****** Social Scene?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 12:55 AM

I see what you did there.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 12:59 AM

I wouldn't get all fired up just yet... It may turn out to be BSS presents Kevin Drew or BSS presents Brandon Canning.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 12:59 AM

Now they just need to add the Flaming Lips!

then it will be festival of the year!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:00 AM

for those of you who aren't familiar with lollapalooza's layout, the sunday headliner always plays with no competition, so they're the only person playing.

i'm also pretty sure that that headliner will be radiohead, and not nine inch nails.

but yeah, thus far this lineup trounces bonnaroo and coachella.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:08 AM

RATM, Broken social scene, Radiohead!!! Wahooo! Fuck you coachella headliners. Can't wait to see the rest of the lineup.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:09 AM

i wish this was on the east coast. this is what i'd hoped all points west would have been or virgin fest for that matter.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:12 AM

when broken social scene played lollapalooza before, they managed to produce every single member, all 16 of them.

i dont' think this year will be any different.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:15 AM

Yeah, but when was that? Recently the band has just been backup for solo careers.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:18 AM

how many more good bands are expected out of this?

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:28 AM

o.m.g.

Posted by kr | April 4, 2008 2:10 AM

Wow. I was expecting this leak Sunday (or Saturday eve at the earliest) like last year.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:07 AM

If this is true, they can add Jack Johnson anywhere in that lineup (kids stage) and it would still kick ass.

Also, hate to rain on anyone's parade but in reading it, I think they've already announced the pairs of headliners each night:

FRI: Radiohead vs. NIN
SAT: RATM vs. The Raconteurs
SUN: Wilco vs. Kanye

I'm hoping I'm wrong and the day order is reversed.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:25 AM

Great lineup!

Also, Grizzly Bear opening for Radiohead shows to be announced Monday, woohoo!

Posted by Les | April 4, 2008 6:09 AM

The omission of Jack Johnson alone makes this the festival of the year.

Posted by Bao | April 4, 2008 7:23 AM

whaaa no daft punk... the double r's rage and radiohead...still happy to be going to all points polloza as i live 1 min walk from the light rail

still must say great lineup

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 9:06 AM

this lineup sucks donkey balls.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 9:24 AM

Radiohead v. NIN would be hilarious.

Posted by anonymous2 | April 4, 2008 9:39 AM

anybody else go to the Deli show @ galapagos last night? and notice how there were just about 0 good bands?

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 9:40 AM

fuckity fuck fuck

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 9:49 AM

All Points Weak

Crappy crappy festival.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 10:00 AM

good lineup, a little disappointed no mmj.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 10:01 AM

BLUES TRAVELER!! YESSSSSS!

Posted by Amanda | April 4, 2008 10:07 AM

if you guys can't read....there are more than 100 bands playing this festival....so there will be more great bands being announced on monday

so be patient and stop complaining!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 10:17 AM

meh

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 10:31 AM

why is there a tag for CSS at the bottom, but theyre not mentioned anywhere in the article. I mean, I hope they're playing, after the fuck up last year, but...

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 10:33 AM

CSS, Yesayer and Gogol Bordello are also confirmed, but arent in that article.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 10:34 AM

MMJ has played the past 2 years, something C3 usually does not do.

Posted by da shit | April 4, 2008 11:01 AM

Great lineup but for most New Yorkers this becomes expensive and maybe not worth it. I mean 190 for the early pass. But with hotel stays, food and beverage and travel you could be looking at upwards of 800 dollars possibly more. No thanks. I will stay here, enjoy 2 nights of Radiohead outdoors and see most of these other bands when they come here during the year albeit in much smaller intimate surroundings(except the headliners of course)

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 11:10 AM

I think they would know better than to make it Radiohead vs. NIN.

Posted by Jay | April 4, 2008 11:44 AM

Stop fucking complaining about APW. It was never intended to be the same as Lolla, Coachella, ACL, etc. It's in a much smaller venue that holds far fewer people. Of course there are less acts. Still, you get lots of Radiohead, Black Angels, Roots, Animal Collective, Cat Power, Underworld, Grizzly Bear, Andrew Bird, Kings of Leon, New Pornos. What's to complain about?

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 11:54 AM

Jay, this is C3. If you check out the Lolla or ACL forums in the past year after schedule announcements, you'll find they like to make fans decide one band over the other. Like White Stripes vs. Arcade Fire, Muse vs. Interpol, etc.

A round trip flight to Chicago is easily less than $200. Who pays hundreds of dollars for food over a long weekend? And don't you have friends in Chicago-it's a big city. I'm crashing with friends who are also going and probably not paying that much for food. And if you add up all the tickets for the various bands you want to see in NYC as well as the APW tickets and various transportation, it probably comes out close to even. It's not that bad of a deal.

Posted by Charles | April 4, 2008 12:44 PM

Funny how the web site's lineup is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

Posted by robert doosh | April 4, 2008 1:20 PM

cause thats the 2007 lineup ass

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:28 PM

uh

all you folks who are concerned about radiohead and NIN playing at the same time.

if you have ever been to lollapalooza you know that THE SUNDAY NIGHT HEADLINER PLAYS ALONE, NO ONE ELSE PLAYS AT THE SAME TIME AS THEM. WHICH MEANS THAT THERE IS NO CHANCE OF RADIOHEAD AND NIN PLAYING AT THE SAME TIME.

anyway, if they changed it, that would be fucked up.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:47 PM

poster several place above me is right last year for ex they had YYY's at the same time as Snow PAtrol. Its intentional obviously they want to control the crowding this way, so dont be surprised if some of your favorite acts are on at the same time, I think NIN will be on vs RATM.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:55 PM

also Ween v Wilco 2 years ago, if I remember right, and Muse vs Interpol last year.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 1:58 PM

Almost every festival puts major acts at the same time to control the size of the crowd. ACL did it (Arcade Fire), Lollapalooza. APW will do it with Radiohead and the Roots playing at almost the same time (Roots start 30 minutes earlier)

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:06 PM

im hearing that this will be the first year that the final band doesn't play unopposed.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:07 PM

APW is officially owned (even though that wasn't hard to do)

DAMN IT!

here i come Chicago - F APW

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:20 PM

hey anon 11:54

I quit complaining about APW when it stops sucking.

I understand it wasn't meant to be Lolla - but all that means is it wasn't meant to be as good, but at the same time more expensive.

STFU, APW sucks dick!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:23 PM

Yeah I live in DC - either option isn't going to be cheap, but with a line up of more choice and BETTER headliners and mid teir bands, I'm going to Lolla and Roo rather than APW -

it just makes sense.

I'm not complaining, but APW really isn't that good - (and no, I'm not going) but I understand the bitching surrounding it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:25 PM

Lolla is great this year - and we only have a fraction of the full line up.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:26 PM

Now that I see this - I fart in the general direction of the increasingly lame All Points West.

Posted by ramsey420 | April 4, 2008 2:27 PM

FUCK YOU ALL POINTS WORTHLESS!

Who cares if it is meant to be smaller and not like Lolla or Coachella - it still lacks any choice. The one thing it had on other festivals was Radiohead and very expensive tickets, oops.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:30 PM

Lolla = Great
Coachella = Great
Bonnaroo = Great
Pitchfork = Great

V Fest = Good
SF = Good
Sasquatch = Good
Pemberton = Good

All Points West = Lame as a fucking crippled monkey

(Chicago gets 2 awesome festivals, California gets more than that, and all we get is shit on, I know we get every band in NYC, but in terms of festivals, we got the shaft)

Posted by Theodorekills | April 4, 2008 2:36 PM

apw is nothing more than a really expensive radiohead concert.

whats most sad though is that buying two single day tickets to apw, is more expensive than a three day pass to lolla.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:38 PM

apw is nothing more than really expensive readiohead concertSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 2:49 PM

ALL FARTS WEST

Posted by journey | April 4, 2008 3:26 PM

if you think about it, yes all points west is 'a really expensive radiohead concert', but its a pretty damn good one. i got tickets for another radiohead show, not even that great, and they were 70 each. And that's with just the Liars opening. I got single day tickets to apw for 100 each, and you get WAY more than just the liars.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:29 PM

I much rather pay $70 to see Radiohead/Liars and know where I will be standing (floor seats or bust). At APW, you will be a mile from the stage unless you get there early and camp out all day.

Hopefully the DC/Boston Radiohead dates will be on a Saturday. Roadtrip!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 3:51 PM

exactly anon 3:51

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 4:13 PM

I wished I lived on the West Coast, just for the properly run music festivals, All Points Weak is shit!

Posted by JeromeBrkyn | April 4, 2008 4:19 PM

Thank God Lolla announced a bit of their line up - I was going to go buy a pass for APW, but now that Lolla got Radiohead and effing Nine Inch Nails, I know where my money is going.

Next year try harder APW, you blow in 08.

Posted by Jasonf | April 4, 2008 4:23 PM

Lolla - fest of the year - hands down.

The others are worth it (Pemberton and Coache esp.) - except of course for the one in our own backyard. All Point West officially makes me ill.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 4:38 PM

Yep! My hard earned concert dollars going to this instead of V or APW.

Good job Perry!

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 4:38 PM

new names for the festivals....

KINGCHELLA
LONG LIVE LOLLA
BONNAWONDERFUL
ALL POINTS WEAK

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 4:41 PM

Damn! New York IS getting the music festival shaft.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 4:42 PM

Shit - instead of biking to Liberty Park, I gotta get on a plane now, oh well, Lolla looks awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | April 4, 2008 4:47 PM

Fuck Terminal 5

Posted by Anonymous | April 6, 2008 7:01 PM

what time does Daft Punk not play a festival this year?

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 3:52 PM

i've given up on seeing radiohead this time around... will not go to liberty island to stand for ten hours to see a one hour radio set and certainly won't go to jersey unless i'm driving to another state...

Posted by moldymind | April 11, 2008 2:58 PM
