Friday, July 4, 3:30pmI guess that means it's happening, but not at Summerstage.
Battery Park
SONIC YOUTH / THE FEELIES TO OPEN
Sonic Youth came on the music scene in the early '80s and continues to be a major force in the indie genre today. Known to "redefine what rock guitar could do," they have created a new sonic landscape rich in alternate sounds. Bring a blanket and come Downtown to enjoy the hits that have earned them a dedicated decades-long following. The Feelies will reunite to open.
Tickets are required and space is limited. FREE.

4 years in a row of great july 4th shows at battery park...
Bravo River to River!
This will surely be amazing (although nowhere near as great at B&S in '06).

This is gonna be great. Show of what looks already to be an amazing summer lineup? Be on the lookout as well for a string of Maxwells dates for The Feelies. July 4th could not come sooner.

plan on waiting in line for hours at a starbucks to get tickets.
Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 3:29 PM
I hope the Feelies do a show beforehand. Too many lookie-loos at the free shows.

You do not have to go to starbucks for tickets. More misinformation. They offer tickets on the River to River website and then you go pick them up. Last year was easy and relatively quick. Plus day of show they were still giving out tickets.
Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 3:33 PM
you registered before hand and had 3 opportunities over 3-4 days to pick the tickets up in Battery Park City. they had your name on a list and the no. of tickets you were getting.
easy as pie.

Posted by Anonymous | April 7, 2008 9:42 PM
Tip: this is definitely a BYOF (Flask) event. Ain't no liquor sold or allowed in this park.

"Bring a blanket and come Downtown to enjoy the hits that have earned them a dedicated decades-long following."
Well, that's if they play their "hits" and not a ton of new stuff.
And bring a blanket? What, are people gonna be laying down to watch them? If so, that's really, really lame.
Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2008 12:14 AM
if all 5K people brought a blanket and laid down the entire time... not getting up once (and not even when j mascis came onstage to play along to "titanium expose")....
that still wouldn't be as lame as your post.
Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2008 1:06 AM
titanium expose is the true hotness

Glenn Mercer and Dave Weckerman will be playing at the Luna Lounge on Saturday night too.

Sonic Youth have hits?
Besides Teenage Riot (which they still play), I can't think of another definitive song.

Thanks Anon 10:33 - just got 2 Feelies tix for the 7/2 show.
Last time I saw the Feelies was around '86 when they opened for REM at the Felt Forum.
