Sound Fix shut down again. Tonight's show cancelled

Sound Fix

Great news, everybody: the Department of Health was nice enough to shut down Sound Fix Records 20 minutes ago because their CDs were dusty or something. So no show tonight. Hopefully some other time? I'll try to do comedy again.

But really, the venue just got shut down by the Department of Health. I'm SUPER happy about it and not at all troubled how late this notice I'm giving you is.

If you get this AFTER you show up to a closed Sound Fix tonight, I will buy you a drink ASAP.

I'm really really sorry. [comedian Max Silvestri]

Leo Allen, Brett Gelman, Dave Hill, Pete Holmes and Kumail Nanjiani were all scheduled to perform at Max's show tonight (April 3, 2008). Shows were also cancelled for the same reason this past weekend. The Postelles & Bachelorette are scheduled to play tomorrow.

APRIL 4 UPDATE: Just to clarify, the record store is open, but the lounge (venue part) is closed (still).

Int. Day - Sound Fix Records

Two officers walk in, one in plan clothes, one in police uniform. They walk over to a shelf, plain clothes picks up a CD.

Plain Clothes
(heavy Brooklyn accent) What the fuck is this shit?

Police Uniform
(just as heavy Brooklyn accent) Is this that 'Elmo' shit? My sister's niece listens to that shit... all mopey and stuff. What the hell they gotta be so sad for, huh?

PC
God, look at this stuff... The Rapture? What is this shit, fag music?

PU
(calls over to the counter) Hey! Yo! Is dis fag music?

Counter Clerk
(snark) No, the Frank Sinatra's in the back.

PU
(flabbergasted) What! He said...! (to PC) Did you hear this kid? He called Sinatra for the gays!

PC
(just as flabbergasted, in a thick Brooklyn accent, with a trace of malice) He did what?!!

PU
Called Ol' Blue Eyes light in the loafers... No respect!

PC
(snaps) Dat's it! Shuttin' yous down! Disturbin' the peace! Pollutin' the mental helth of this city!!!

I bet they didn't have a health permit.

Yes, I am curious what the actual reason is for them getting shut down.

Posted by Anonymous | April 3, 2008 8:30 PM

they probably got shut down for pretending to have "in-stores", but really hosting free shows.

Why would a band play sound fix when they can play any of a zillion other venues and get paid for it?

Posted by Anonymous | April 3, 2008 8:57 PM

because people actually show up to soundfix.

I went into the Park Slope precinct tonight wearing my Peter Bjorn & John shirt, and the cops were all like "nice, man", and I was like, "what?". Totally shocked. I thought they might be into Night Ranger or something.

Shut that fucking place down and build another yuppie bar or sushi joint. Maybe someplace where I can get a nice cupcake and some of grandma's special hot cocoa. Fuck a bunch of NYC 2.0.
