5/3 - Studio B closed indefinitely as a result of a new hipster craze: rooftop diving.

Any other city, and I'd be pretty excited. Unfortunately, the obnoxious hipster scene will pretty much make this a Look Cool Fest every night. And since I'm not cool...

will spank rock decide to actually bless us with their presence this time?

Posted by Anonymous | April 8, 2008 5:30 PM

^^well done

Posted by ROCK STARchitect | April 8, 2008 5:31 PM

Oh, that's wonderful! The security guys must be super excited to start throwing customers from up there down to the street, instead of the usual "out the door and over the metal barriers"...

Hahahahahhaha $30 to see these garbage bands/artists?! I rather save that money to pick up new Nick Cave/Man Man cds!

"I'm gonna call out the promoters from Spank Rock's last scheduled appearance at Studio B:"

More than likely the promoters are just as unhappy about the situation as you. They can't control Spank Rock.

Last time he was supposed to be there it was $15 now it's $30. What is this Bizarro Hipster world?

Posted by GOPster | April 8, 2008 6:17 PM

Posted by jp | April 8, 2008 6:27 PM

Anyone want to place a wager on the roof garden? I'll accept doughnuts and pay out in dollars. May 2nd is absurd. Here is the "schedule A" indicating they just (3/31) filed an application to legalize occupancy on the second floor.

http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/JobsQueryByNumberServlet?requestid=2&passjobnumber=302387637&passdocnumber=01

There is no proposed occupancy on the roof. Once they get the aforementioned application approved they'll need to amend the PA permit to include the additional 150 people on the second floor. So unless they're chopping off the roof so the second floor is open to the sky, there will be no rooftop garden (a legal one anyway) in the near future; 3 months would be an aggressive schedule. This is the existing PA permit for the first floor only.

I've never actually been inside, do they occupy the second floor?

Bill, that's the same link twice.

Spank Suck.

Studio B ticket prices = meatpacking district club door prices.
Rooftop garden will fill up with Misshapes victims who judge people by how tight their jeans are and how vintage their t-shirt is.
I'll be drinking and watching better artists at Luna Lounge, thank you very much.

Posted by Anonymous | April 9, 2008 11:20 AM

Sorry about the double link. Here's the PA. You'll notice it's only for the first floor (461 people). The second floor will, once approved, will allow an additional 150.

Fire Marshall Bill: half of the second floor is some kind of office or studio (since lights are on even before the club is open or if the club isn't open), legally constructed (trust me we checked the permits when they were up).

What's funny is that there is a DOB permit on the front door, because as soon as we saw the tarp on the second half of the second floor we went over to check immediately. I need to go read what it actually says.

Posted by neighborhood threat | April 11, 2008 7:27 AM

Give me the 9 digit number on the permit. I can see every permit they've filed and they're sorely lacking a couple apps to legalize a roof garden. Lord only knows if they'd be able to comply. I obviously don't have any drawings, but from my experience I can tell you they're going to have a lot of problems getting it approved.

Please don't forget that the application I found disapproved isn't even for the rooftop garden--only the second floor. Unless they are literally tearing the roof off, there is no application on file with the DOB to legalize such.

Hopefully Great White will play there.
