"Summer Music Festival Business Heats Up"

A fan's best chance to see live music this summer won't necessarily be scoring a ticket to a band's concert tour. More likely, your favorite artist will be playing one of the summer's major music festivals, rather than canvassing the country alone. With the introduction of 10 new festivals this year, this summer is shaping up to be an arms race between promoters hoping to woo fans with stellar lineups in order to get them to buy tickets often priced above $150.
C3 Presents added to the mix today, announcing the lineup to the Austin City Limits music festival in Texas. [Forbes]

all the fests look great, but Seattle has the rest of the country beat - damned - the summer starts with Sasquatch (REM, The Cure, Flaming Lips, Presidents, MIA, Death Cab, Mars Volta, Modest Mouse, Blue Scholars, Ozomatl...) then Sub Pop's 20th Anniversary Party (no big names but it'll be fun as shit), The Capitol Hill Block Party (Vampire Weekend, Hold Steady, Chromeo, Girl Talk, Les Savy Fav, Kimya Dawson) and then Bumbershoot. Unbeleivable.

Yeah, but they have to live in Seattle.

Who wants to pay a bunch of money to see indie bands in a huge crowd with bad outdoor sound when they can see the same bands in a small room with good sound? I never understood festivals.
