Websheriff is another scam to take money from artists under the guise of protecting them. Websheriff is just a scavenger feeding off the dead carcasses of the record labels.

Wait a sec. It is not that John Giacobbi(Websheriff) is a scam or anything. What he does is try to be positive on the outside yes by making compliments or showing people where they can get legal downloads of the artists he represents. But behind the scenes he threatens blogs etc with prosecution and the like if they dont remove the infringement. But like any scumbag worm he mostly preys on the little guys or the ones he knows wont fight back because downloads are really a small part of their blog. Such as what he did with BV. He then touts the success he has all over the net and in the press.

Truth be told he has not done shit because the blogs that are all about downloads dont listen to him such as ateaseweb.com where you can get links for so much free music. They mock the shit out of him. And let's not forget Pirate Bay plus many other sites like What and Waffles. He has absolutely no success in anything and he knows it. The Raconteurs new cd is all over the fucking net for free in every format up to an exact copy of it.
So just laugh at him and move on. Don't even give him a thought.

Many thanks for your post ... .. although is there really any need to descend into abuse etc (up to you of course) ?? ... .. rights protection / enforcement (whatever you want to call it - fascism no doubt !!) can be done in one of two ways ... .. there are those in the industry who, admittedly, prefer to simply threaten to sue / sue everyone in sight ... .. we, believe it or not, do NOT think it appropriate to persecute fans for their (often understandable) over-exuberance ... .. instead we mainly seek to rationalize with fans and bloggers and, where possible, secure label agreement to provide preview / promo material that fans can post / host / share (even before release) ... .. this approach respects the fan and blogger community and, we're glad to say, many members of the on-line community appreciate and reciprocate this respect ... .. if you want to hate us for doing our job, then there's not much we can do about that and, again, it's your prerogative, but we're simply here to implement a responsible and balanced approach.

As for closing down hard-target sites, we've closed down sites all over the world, including extremist sites hosting beheading videos of US and UK hostages in Iraq, as well as commercial sites dedicated to the torture and hanging of women for sexual gratification .. .. we reserve a tough approach for serious issues such as these, NOT music fans ... .. as for PirateBay, they are being sued (in Sweden and in the US) and, ultimately, will be closed down ... .. you may (or may not) realise that PirateBay is, de facto, a huge business now that rakes-in money every month from advertising off the backs of other people's music and film etc ... .. which is why so many artists are now wanting to put-a-stop to them.

On the outside he plays nice and then behind the scenes he threatens like the rest. Worse then that he lies about his achievements. Ask him for specifics and see what happens. He tells you he has been responsible for shutting down extremist sites. BULLSHIT. Like i said before, he went on tons of news shows and gave interviews to the press about how he was so successful in removing unauthorized Prince material from the net. Go look around torrent sites, youtube, download sites and blogs for free Prince music. It is all over the place. This piece of shit did nothing. He did manage to alienate die hard Prince fans which resulted in Prince having to backtrack and actually write and record an original song apologizing.

Oh and Johnny Boy, you may actually have morons believing your trash but we both know you aint gonna be in business very much longer. Your total lack of failure is going to catch up to you pretty soon. And nice try about Pirate Bay. You will be out of business before they will. Pirate Bay is not going anywhere buddy. See this is more proof of his bullshit. US law holds no water in Sweden so him saying they are being sued in the US means NOTHING. The court case against Pirate Bay in Sweden is going to fail as well. The advertising angle is the newest crap they are trying to use to shut them down. Not gonna work.
