Tribe Called Quest

No NYC date again (sort of) (yet?)......

Q-TIP JOINS ROCK THE BELLS FESTIVAL SERIES
IN SUPPORT OF HIS HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED RELEASE THE RENAISSANCE

A TRIBE CALLED QUEST REUNITES TO HEADLINE THE TOUR

New York, NY- April 22, 2008- Grammy award-winning, hip-hop pioneer Q-Tip hits the road in July on the Rock the Bells tour in support of his highly-anticipated new album The Renaissance- out this summer via Universal Motown. The legendary MC takes to the stage with his live band and EMPD's DJ Scratch to perform his latest material and dip into his previous solo release- 1999's Amplified-which spawned the hits "Vivrant Thing" and "Breathe & Stop."

Q-Tip toured this past fall to sold-out audiences nationwide and received glowing reviews from critics for his electrifying set. "Q-Tip sounded terrific throughout the show: loose but fierce, an endless fount of energy," raved The New York Times' ArtsBeat.

The demand for The Renaissance continues to escalate. Last July, Q-Tip offered audiences a taste of the album with "WorkItOut"- a quintessential hip-hop jam currently available on iTunes. He went on to perform new tracks such as "Fever" and "Official" while on the road. Special guests Norah Jones, Pharrell and D'Angelo have been added to the mix and ensure that The Renaissance is the summer's must-have album. Senator Barack Obama can also be heard on the album as Q-Tip, an avid supporter of the presidential candidate, samples one of his speeches.

Q-Tip will then return to the stage at the end of each Rock the Bells date with fellow A Tribe Called Quest band members- Phife Dawg & Ali Shaheed Muhammad- to perform the classics that introduced his unique vocal stylings and lyrical insight to the masses. The Abstract first rose to prominence in 1988 as one of the founders of the group whose cerebral wordplay and intricate fusion of jazz and other genre-bending influences changed hip-hop's lexicon forever.

Yes please bring back Randalls Island. I would rather see this show at a gigantic mud pit with 40000 people where unless you are up close you cant really see anything and the sound is horrid. Yes please!!!! These 2 idiots above are probably gonna gripe that it sucks cause they cant drink alcohol all day in the venue and get fucked up and make fools of themselves. You can smoke weed in there though. Yum. Cant wait for this show. Jones Beach thank you. Should be a great show.

The asshole racist in the comments section here is drowning out my enthusiasm.

AMAZING. I was at their farewell concert for their final, and shitty, album (at Roseland maybe?) something like 9 years ago (I was 15). Please keep us updated! I bet they could sell out MSG if necessary (sorry guys, but I'd pay the 47 bucks for this one).

"white people like non-mainstream hip hop."

ATCQ are non-mainstream?

Why is it that when white people talk about their favorite rap groups, they always mention The Roots and ATCQ?

Maybe Randalls Island wasnt the ideal venue last year, but having been to Jones Beach a number of times for everything from Jay-Z to Aerosmith to The Who to Moby I think I can say with some authority that this is the worst possible venue for this show.

Outside of Tribe no-showing, Jones Beach is the only way you can ruin a lineup like this (but there is no way Id miss it for anything).

Maybe Randalls Island wasnt the ideal venue? Maybe? Really? With a statement like that Jared you immediately are suspect with any comments you make about what is or isnt good. But why dont you tell us why Jones is the worst possible venue. Aside from the no alcohol policy and maybe the hassle getting out there(if you dont have a car) Because i have been to tons of shows at Jones over the years and it is a lovely venue. The sightlines are great wherever you are. The sound is awesome for an outdoor venue. The atmosphere is beautiful. I would love to know what is so bad about this place.

Jones beach is the worst venue! Security is rediculous, the sound is bad, NO ALCOHOL, the seating has these gaps in between sections that you never feel like you're at a show! it feels like you're at a middle school supervised auditorium concert. And the worst part is that it's in such a cool location right there on the water and by the beach. Oh, and if you're cool enough and pay enough to get VIP then you can drink..... for about an hour until they cut everything off extremely early.

Yeah, totally gonna be there...Rage 1 year, Tribe called quest the next? applaud

Awww Jared got angry so posted as this. Sorry wrong on all counts. Security is no worse than anywhere else. The sound is wonderful there. You probably think T5 has awesome sound. As for the seating gaps. Go away with something so fucking stupid
Again with the no alcohol complaint, may i suggest partying in the parking lot before the show and then seeking out a spot in AA you fucking drunk idiot.

Sorry to disappoint, but I only posted once.

I have been to some shows at Jones that were amazing. However, all of those shows were rock bands and generally speaking, an older crowd with a different energy.

Festival shows are LONG, and with the acts on this bill people will want to get up and move around, be closer to the stage for some acts, just stand around and bullshit for other. This is not happening at Jones Beach. You are basically tied to your seat if you want to have any type of view of the stage. All of the merch and consessions are basically outside of the seating bowl, with absolutely no view of the stage. This is why the venue blows for a festival like this. Who the fuck wants to spend all day sitting on a crappy plastic seat?

Mmmmm nah still not making any real points here.I have been to many shows both young and old crowds there. I have been to festival shows as well and they were amazin. They are much more lenient security wise at the festival shows there.I had friends in other sections and i was able to go to where they were and sit with them. People are always moving around. Also if i remember correctly only the main bands play in the stadium. I think they have another stage set up to the far end of the concession area and that is no seating so you can move around there as well. Is it the same thing as an open air non seated event. No of course not but ill take this over randalls island any fucking day

Posted by Anonymous | April 23, 2008 10:39 AM

the first comment is so true.

is this amphitheater in long island? if so, what the fuck.

Posted by fredMS | April 27, 2008 7:55 PM

according to the site the venue is TBA

Posted by Anonymous | April 27, 2008 8:29 PM

i have never been to jones beach amphitheater, but im assuming it has a parking lot, and that there will be two stages. therefore, one, if not both stages, will be in some of the parking lot. you cant have two stages in one amphitheater.

Posted by nick | April 27, 2008 8:33 PM

this is something amazing. Man this is music for everyone. If you claim you are into Hip Hop this is what you need to be listening to. All these best Mcs sharing the same stage its something crazy. You don't get this alot. Hip Hop at its finest. This event could be in a back alley for all I care; I'm there. You need to bring your kids, nephews and grandkids so they can stop snapping there fingers and lean to this. The line up Is sick. Tribe together, the pharcyde reuniting, Nas, Dead Prez,Cuban Linx. Why would I have to say more. Throw back at noon. This is not your basics.

Yo, music is universal. And white boys LOVE music. Aside from that, this concert is beyond FIRE!!! OMG! I grew up listening to these catz. This is what hip hop truly is! It's curtains! The energy that's going to come from this...! Man, words can't even express.
Peace,
Saleeman
