I hate this band so much.

Is it June or July? Bonnaroo and Pitchfork are a month apart, not a week.

BV is temporally challenged.

hi all:
yeah i know some ppl hate VW, but here's a great video of them playing A Punk on stage in SF on Easter Sunday with accompanying fans dancing on stage; it's a rare look at a band that doesn't take themselves as seriously as some 'VW haters' think they do (inevitable backlash against any popular 'buzz' band, esp after appearing on SNL).
Nevertheless, this video is fun, and I took it from literally 12 feet away from Erza

So apparently, it's June, not July, then? But it still says July in the narrative.
(thanx, btw)

Is Vancouver, BC in the US? Or am I just too dumb to realize what's going on?

Does anyone know when tickets will go on sale?
Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2008 12:30 AM
There is no question that VW will be the Spin Doctors of the 00s.
Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2008 4:17 AM
What time does Daft Punk confuse June for July?
Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2008 4:28 AM
Anon 4:17 is so right
Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2008 9:39 AM
hating on vampire weekend is so cool.
Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2008 11:31 AM
Hey, is Canada in America or is it still part of France?
Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2008 1:21 PM
"There is no question that VW will be the Spin Doctors of the 00s."
incredibly accurate description

"There is no question that VW will be the Spin Doctors of the 00s."
"incredibly accurate description"
really?
i hope VW's next album blows people out of the water, just so all these haters can get the opportunity to pretend that they never talked shit.

architecture in helsinki is the spin doctors o 00's....listening to vampire weekend is like having and hour conversation about dust
Posted by jimmy | April 12, 2008 3:14 PM
@ Spin Doctors
Except the Spin Doctors were part of the Major Label system, and had a one hit wonder on the Radio.
Is top 40 playing VW now? I guess I don't listen, so I wouldn't know. They don't have a HIT song. They are not the Spin Doctors.
Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2008 4:06 PM
they're The Strokes of now. Zeitgeisty, perhaps, but will be ultimately forgotten.
Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2008 4:37 PM
the spin doctors are better, the vampire weekend album is terrible

I'm going to start a Vampire Weekend Haters United Group on Facebook. Then, after about two weeks I'm going to send a virus to every member of that group that will destroy their computers. Cruel? Yes. Extreme? Yes. Justified? Yes. To hate or disparage a band because they've become "popular" in a certain sense makes you a tool. To hate or disparage a band because they're are "popular" and because everybody else is doing it makes you a tool and a sheep.
Grow up, all of you, please. Don't you have anything better to do with your time? You're all the indie version of Comic Book Guy. You may not LIKE VW or you may not they may not be "original" enough for you but they're not a bad band nor do they suck.
The only reason why people dislike VW for their lack of originality (or whatever) is because they're unoriginal in a new way. If a band rips off VU, Television, Joy Division or any number of a sickeningly large number of later 70's/early 80's bands, they don't get an 1/8 of the shit that VW does because it's acceptable and the norm to rip those bands off. If somebody goes to a new place to rip from, all you hipsters shit your skinny jeans over it cause it's *gasp* something different! A band that does NOT sound like VU or the talking heads? Heaven forbid.
In reality, VW is far more original than most "indie" bands. They are what, two degrees removed from their source? African music>paul simon>VW.
Take a look at any indie band. VU>[generic 70's punk band]>[generic 80's indie band]>[generic 90's indie band]>Strokes>Today's Indie Band.
In short, get over yourselves, stop disparaging bands for infantile reasons, lighten up a bit and, if you can't do that, perhaps you should just go hang yourself from your skinny tie which you bought with mommy and daddy's money.
Thank you.

I remember when they played Bowery back in January and almost everyone on this blog liked them..."They're the new Chromeo"...whatever...
Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2008 7:50 PM
^^No, hardly anyone here liked them back then. In fact, the reaction here has been predominantly negative for a while now, at least since they opened for The New Pornographers at the Bowery in August.

hey 5:04. go fuck yourself. but first, Vampire Weekend does indeed suck. not because they're popular, but because THEIR MUSIC SUCKS. what part of that don't you understand??? Their music SUCKS. IT'S UTTERLY DERIVATIVE AND IT'S SHIT. IT MAKES THE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND SOUND LIKE FUCKING BLACK SABBATH.
Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 2:16 AM
well said to the person who made the long rant.
Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 2:16 AM
2:16 am -
I'm going to assume that due to your embarrassing lack of understanding of proper punctuation and grammar and fondness for capitalization that you are 16. I guess having mommy and daddy hire that tutor to take your tests for you wasn't such a good idea after all. Oh well, I'll just speak slowly and try to make things as clear as possible for you.
I'm confused. You seem to be comparing VW to DMB or are implying they are on a similar level. You're a fucktard if you believe this. If you can make an honest comparison between DMB then you have no right to be comment on or otherwise be judging music. You're proven yourself to be incapable of original or intelligent thought. Please just go away.

please make a post when tickets go on sale!
Posted by Anonymous | April 13, 2008 6:03 PM
well said to 12:59 and 2:16 for their big long rants.
Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 1:56 AM
Hey dumbass 12:59: You're the one with the fucked up grammar there pal. ("you have no right to be comment on" ??? WTF) Seriously.
As for being "confused," you certainly are; I believe that Senor 2:16 meant that VW's sound is so twee, so, I don't know, prissy? that they make the DMB sound like Black Sabbath. In other words, for something to make the DMB seem "heavy," it must really, really be, um, lightweight. Christ, if you didn't get it, then forget it.
Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2008 5:57 AM
5:57, if you don't like the band, why even view, let alone, comment on the posting??? If you don't like a band, don't buy their albums, don't go to their concerts, don't listen to their music. Please don't waste our time with your very simple witticisms that say little about why you dislike the band.
Lighten up, man. It's just music.
Posted by David Soffar | April 14, 2008 6:31 PM
I'm pretty sure this is a free show so no ticket sale.
Posted by E | April 16, 2008 11:08 AM
Hi! Is the Summerstage concert for free? If not, where do I buy tickets/ can I buy tickets for it? Is that what "E" is referring to? I'm super confused. Please help me out!
Posted by Confused | May 7, 2008 5:05 PM
Hey, pretty dumb but how do you get tickets for the june 14th show?
Posted by Anna | May 26, 2008 8:29 AM
there are no tickets. It's a free summerstage show. Just show up (but get there EARLY).
some shows there you can just show up when the headliner is starting and get a good spot. This will not be one of those shows.
Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2008 9:44 AM
um, how many of you live in williamsburg and look like ted k (shit, the unabomber)? jesus christ you're all alike. You dress dirty, vote for obama, and hate vampre weekend simply because spin magazine likes them. can't you liksten to music because you like it or just want to listen? does there ALWAYS have to be soemthing deeper? you guys make listening to music seem like a fucking chore.
Posted by Mike | May 26, 2008 9:56 AM
i can't liksten to music or shower because Obama tells me not to.
who else should we be voting for, Mike? Is there another candidate? Maybe if YOU stopped bitching about Obama and kids in thick rimmed glasses, you'd be a little happier yourself.
Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2008 10:11 AM
I just watched said video and these guys are a bunch of twots, but that's just me. Everyone is entitled to an opinion right? Or has George Bush taken that away too?
Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2008 11:41 PM

Posted by Joe | June 13, 2008 11:45 PM
