Posted by Ralph Lauren | April 24, 2008 11:37 AM

oh yeah, i loved it when i first heard that song off 'graceland'. bravo!

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 11:39 AM

oh please. im no fan but the graceland comparison is more stale than VW's music at this point

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 12:00 PM

he is your slave?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 12:09 PM

Paul Simon is an asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 12:13 PM

The drum line was cool.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 12:14 PM

I just don't get what the big deal is about this group. That was pretty weak.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 12:26 PM

Ralph Lauren, that snarky dick, can't even spell "pretentious."

Vampire Weekend owe you, Cock Knockah!

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 12:27 PM

most. overexposed. band. ever.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 1:17 PM

That woman is holding a Spin magazine with Vampire Weekend on the cover.
Why?

Posted by Anon Y. Mous | April 24, 2008 1:20 PM

ok. i'm going to say it. vampire weekend are scary big. i don't know how this happened because they were playing to like 20 people less than half a year ago. but when you've got generic girls in the front row singing along, well, wow.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 1:23 PM

this is so lame whats going on here?this band sucks

Posted by Arthur | April 24, 2008 1:30 PM

bad ska will always be popular.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 1:32 PM

"vampire weekend are scary big. i don't know how this happened"

Marketing, baby! MARKETING! It's awfully easy to sell mainstream America Pat Boone 2008.

also: "generic girls." Oy vey.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 1:32 PM

yeah, I watched their performance on TV last night. These dudes are pleasant people, I remember when they were guys you'd see out in the scene. But DAMN they are dull. That song is barely catchy, and it's the big hit.

shit is getting weak out in the indie world, kids.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 1:47 PM

wow look at them nerdy girls swoon!

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 1:51 PM

I have tried and tried, but just don't get it...

I can't even stand to watch their entire 3 min performance...

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 1:52 PM

it's pretty unremarkable.

Dirty Projectors does what they do with a lot more dynamism and orginality.

But they're nice enough and seem pretty smart and talented, albeit boring.

The blue blood schtick is offensive though. Old money is not cute or clever, it's fucking evil. Burn down Cape Cod ya fucking Columbia silver spooners!

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 1:56 PM

The drum line was cool.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 12:14 PM

No, no it wasn't.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 2:04 PM

drum line was kinda patronising.

as if these upper class dudes actually hang out with innercity high school kids.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 2:07 PM

Why the hate? It's like a great man once said...

You and me, we come from different worlds
You like to laugh at me when I look at other girls
Sometimes you're crazy then you wonder why
*I'm such a baby cause the dolphins make me cry
But there's nothing I can do
I've been looking for a girl like you

You look at me, you got nothing left to say
I'm gonna pout at you until I get my way
I won't dance, you won't sing
I just wanna love you but you wanna wear my ring
But there's nothing I can do
I only wanna be with you
You can call me a fool
I only wanna be with you

Put on a little Dylan
Sittin' on a fence
*I said, "That line is great" you asked me what it meant by
*Said I shot a man named Gray
Took his wife to Italy
She inherited a million bucks, when she died it came to me
I can't help it if i'm lucky
I only wanna be with you
Ain't Bobby so cool
I only wanna be with you

Yeah I'm tangled up in blue
I only wanna be with you
You can call me a fool
Only wanna be with you

Sometimes I wonder if we'll ever end
You get so mad at me when I go out with my friends
Sometimes you're crazy then you wonder why
*I'm such a baby and the dolphins make me cry
There's nothing I can do
I only wanna be with you
You can call me a fool
I only wanna be with you
Yeah I'm tangled up in blue
I only wanna be with you

this was so much better than radiohead's douchy conan "performance". VW is the best.

Posted by john | April 24, 2008 2:09 PM

Steaming. Shit. Sandwich.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 2:14 PM

the decline of North America is eminent. Its no easy to understand why on earth people would listen to this SHIT.Its really ,really boring and just...bad.The drummers was such an easy trick.Fuck those ass holes.

Posted by Andrew | April 24, 2008 2:19 PM

they were never kids out in the scene. what are you talking about?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 2:33 PM

Yeah I don't get it. Boring. I get the graceland comparisons. I'll make a new one: The English Beat (with no charisma). I played in a band like this 10 years ago that was better and more exciting with much better songs (no bragging I didn't write them, guy who did is brilliant and I was lucky to be in his band)

Posted by V | April 24, 2008 3:30 PM

I hate people who look like most of the people I know.

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 3:37 PM

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. If you don't like a band, why do you waste our time making nasty, generic, tired, comments about the band? Why even look at the post or view the video? I have a sneaky sensation you guys that hate this band really "love to hate" this band and only do so because it is cool to do so. GET OVER YOURSELVES AND FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO.

Posted by David | April 24, 2008 4:12 PM

agreed. vampire weekend's music is perfectly legitimate. i have their album, i have listened to it maybe 3 times. i think its pretty good but alot of other bands blow them out of the water. but so what.

i dont tune into all this overexposure so there just another band on my ipod. who the fuck cares if they hit it big? and who the fuck cares if they are from money or whatever and dress and act like it.

TONS of people in the bill who are loaded, go to FIT on daddy's nickel, and love acting garbage bag chic.

If you do like a band, why waste our time making positive, generic, tired comments about the band?

Similarly, if you don't like a comment on a blog, why waste your time making whiny, generic, tired comments about the comment?

These questions are rhetorical. Thank you.

what is the meaning of life?

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2008 4:35 PM

Ezra sounded a lot less self-assured on the record than in this performance, the former of which I preferred. A little too over the top, maybe.

Posted by Mark B. | April 24, 2008 5:12 PM

I DO love to hate the vampire weekend fucking shit assholes.they suck

and they are tottaly not conecting with the drummers.Anyone can see it

"Dirty Projectors does what they do with a lot more dynamism and orginality."

Have you actually LISTENED to Dirty Projectors??
NOT the same thing. AT ALL.

"drum line was kinda patronising.

So, it sounds like you are assuming that because these kids are black, they must be from the inner city. Of course unless you personally know of the high school. I'd be careful.

I would rather read comments that are insightful. Not talking shit about a band because it's cool to talk shit about a band. Most of the negative comments about this band that I have seen are related to how fast the band has succeeded or how unoriginal they believe the band to be. Music is about building off of other music. To make music is to be original because you can't possible be completely original when writing music. You're always influenced by other musicians. And many bands would dream to be successes in any form. I think if someone handed you a handful of dough to perform on a televised late-night show, most of you would do the same.

Also, the very fact that you make so many negative comments about a band makes the band all the more interesting to the people who have never heard the band's music before. Thus, by talking shit about a band, you give that band more "hits" on google. So if you want the band to disappear -- you know what to do? Stop talking about the band. I'm tired of reading comments from hipsters, wannabe hipsters, scenesters and seemsters who think they are god's gift to music, but really only think what other hipsters and wannabe hipsters tell them they should think about. If you don't like a band, ignore them. They'll go away eventually. I promise you.

And, by the way, why so many anonymous comments? If you're gonna post here, at least have the balls to leave a screenname.
