I got a copy of Prince playing Creep at a show 2 years ago that blows this performance out of the water. Who wants it?(that is if you want to hear something truly epic)

truly amazing.

Posted by justin | April 28, 2008 1:29 AM

HE is special.

i can't help but think the response would be greater, the interplay would be better, and the set would've have been just so much funkier had there been some black people in the audience and not just on the stage. then again, it is coachella, not msg. (give me grief for saying it but you know it's true.)

Douche ^

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 3:28 AM

this sucks. he ruined the song for me.

Posted by prince ss | April 28, 2008 4:31 AM

Anon 2:32AM: There WERE some black people in the audience. Hate to break it to you, but they weren't making any contributions in making the set any more funkier.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 4:51 AM

"and the set would've have been just so much funkier had there been some black people in the audience"

???????????????????????????????????????????????

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 6:29 AM

2:32am, what are you on about?!

Posted by greg | April 28, 2008 8:46 AM

So 2:32AM, if a band plays in front of some more black people, it will get funkier! That is one crazy theory, stick to surfing porn, music is not your thing!

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 9:01 AM

Great little run around 5:50. I wish Prince would shred more, to be honest. He always leaves me wanting more . . .

>"and the set would've have been just so much funkier had there been some black people in the audience"

hmm. interesting theory. i wonder if the folks at woodstock were thinking about hendrix in those same terms. man, the guy can play, but i sure wish there were more black folks here, then he would REALLY play. dude, you're an asshole. go home and throw your computer out the fucking window so we don't have to hear from your piehole anymore. please.

anon 232, i'm with you. *thumb up* (c) dave chappelle

if there had been more latinas, it would have had more soul...

if there had been more polish, there would have been more vodka...

if there had been more honkeys, there would have been more white man's overbite...

people that make comments like this hold society back from evolving out of this downward social and political spiral we're in.

looks like the best part of you ran down the crack of your mama's ass and ended up as a brown stain on the mattress.

"it is coachella, not msg."

What the fuck does that mean anon 232?

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:49 AM

232 is retarded, but the audience was clapping on 1 and 3....

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:08 AM

I like that he makes it through the whole song without saying the he is a creep or a loser.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:17 AM

i posted the comment about black people at the show. i didn't realize it was going to create such a reaction. (are you people REALLY bk'lyn? do you live amongst black people??)

and actually, music (prince in particular, seen him ten times) is my thing, not porn as some really clever person said. it's amazing the amount of vitriol you people hurled. (i repeat--do you live in bk'lyn?) one person even brought my mother into it. that's pathetic. and hateful. i feel sorry for you. thing is, i struck a nerve. and there is (some) truth in what i said. not like he would've played better, but the vibe would/will be funkier if the crowd is more DIVERSE. you cannot deny that. an msg (mad sq garden, for those who ain't bk'lyn) show is going to be different than a show in the CA desert which is populated primarily by white boys in baseball caps.

there ain't no party like a ny party! nyc is diversity. that's why we live here, yeah? (do you angry people live here?)

"come together", right? he played that as well. relax people; i wasn't saying white folks shouldn't have prince. i think EVERYONE should have him, recognize his genius. i'm outta here. keep it funky!

This is anon 2:32 again.

Look, I wasn't trying to be racist or anything. I just felt like black people understand that kind of music better since it's theirs. They get more into it because they understand it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:26 AM

>(are you people REALLY bk'lyn? do you live amongst black people??)

riiiiight. 'cause, you know, "black people" are the only people in brooklyn, right? and really, that comment of black people understanding that kind of music better since it's theirs, is that so? huh. well if that's the case, then apparently the long winded list of shitty ass modern r&b, all those folks, most of whom are black so, um, based upon your theory, they should know, apparently they're weren't in class that day that instructions were given out on how to make crappy music.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 11:37 AM

11.26

i am the 'real' 2.32. wow, you wanna take the heat for me? thank you. that's courageous but i can handle it. it's unfortunate that my remark caused some to foam at the mouth. nice of you though to attempt to make sense of this and try to bring back some civility.

lol at 11:08!!

wait you seriously think prince is only for black people? ha... just because prince is black? thats hilarious.

you people are so ridiculous.....black people?
who friggin cares, the dude was making a point about diversity and all of you "hipsters" know that.

Besides Coachella blows, and that Prince cover was nothing to get excited about. The fact that it's Prince covering Radiohead isn't enough for me. Yeah he riffs at the end and adds an extra two some-odd minutes to the jam, and it's pretty sweet, but there is no originality in the actual cover. Give me Dirty Projectors doing "Rise Above" or MIA covering Modern Lovers. They sound nothing like the original song and each artist stays true to their style. Prince singing Creep same-old same-old isn't that epic. And he's kind of a dick.

Posted by Lindsay | April 28, 2008 3:25 PM

Why does a cover have to transform & re-invent to be interesting or moving? Nonsense. I generally prefer covers that take risks too, but shit, there's nothing wrong with a solidly-played, heartfelt straight cover.

Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 3:31 PM

I just watched a vid of Radiohead doing creep, and it was pretty bad...i LIKE princes version ALOT, think he put his own touch to it and it worked out great. He made coachella 08 epic.

Posted by Bob George | April 30, 2008 2:24 AM

Okay, so I was actually in the crowd during Coachella (near the very front). MY brothers and friends were near the middle. I will admit that many people in that crowd that day were not fans of funk music. A lot of people there that weekend (I'm very talkative and met a ton of people) were rock fans in general, and ALL had planned to watch Prince's set simply because they knew he had talent.

People were expecting him to walk out on stage and start shredding, which he didn't until a good 45 minutes (guessing) into the show.

I'll agree with Anon 232 that the crowd COULD have been funkier. BUT, I disagree that it was because of their skin color. We just needed more funk fans dancing- regardless of their ethnicity.

you can still see the video on the net even if he removed it from you tube. Just do a search. I thought it was pretty cool. Radio Head should work with him to revive the song.
