last night.....

Bjork @ Hiro Ballroom, April 2, 2008
PAper Magazine

Apparently, New York City ranks fourth in the world in terms of population density, and it felt as if the whole city was crowded together at PAPER's Beautiful People party held at the Hiro Ballroom last night! Californian crooner and BP cover girl Joanna Newsom performed for the throngs of rabid fans. All in all, it was a great, young, crowded, fun, laid-back party, but then all of a sudden the pressure was ON when Bjork, notoriously anti-photographer, arrived. It was my mission to document her iconic presence at our party! And I fought like a Nimiean lion to do it. I got four frames -- pop, pop, pop, pop -- just like the champagne served that evening, courtesy of Nicolas Feuillatte. The icing on the cake? H&M provide a PAPER + H&M T-shirt for all guests which read "I am a beautiful person." [PAPER Magazine]

joanna newsom plays the worst show of her life at the hiro ballroom in NY tonight, april 2nd, 2008. But its not her fault...she sounded fine, but could barely be heard over the chatter of the "beautiful people (but ugly and shallow on the inside) party" via paper magazine and H&M. whatever. who am i to judge...[Tom Hayes]
The same exact thing happened to Antony.

Does Bjork live in NYC now?

Posted by Anonymous | April 3, 2008 5:40 PM

anyone know what songs she played ??

Posted by Anonymous | April 3, 2008 5:43 PM

Bjork lives in a wealthy enclave on the Hudson slightly north of NYC. I think Barney still maintains a loft in Manhattan, though.

Jo, that spam comment was too spammy even for a "What's going on..." post.

It took this protest to flush a response from Gucci, but this morning they have contacted PETA’s headquarters and have pledged never to use seal skin. We are now talking with them about getting rid of all of their fur. So while negotiations continue, we have called off today’s protest.

Yo, fyi -- Joanna Newsom didn't walk off the stage. She was only supposed to play two songs! Please, the world is bad enough as it is without adding more misinformation.

"She was only supposed to play two songs"

it was just a quote off Flickr, but I agree it's misleading. I removed that part.

Winfrey To Air TV Special For Late Dog Sophie

TV talk show queen Oprah Winfrey is to dedicate a special show to her beloved dog Sophie, who died last month. The program, which is set to air in the U.S. on Friday, will investigate abuse at puppy mills - and will be broadcast in memory of Winfrey's cocker spaniel, who died from kidney failure. She says, "Sophie gave me 13 years of unconditional love. She was a true love in my life. (The show is) for anybody anywhere who loves a dog, has ever loved a dog, or just cares about their basic right to humane treatment." And Winfrey insists any new additions to her canine brood will now be adopted from an animal shelter, rather than from a breeder, thanks to the effect the special has had on her. She adds, "I would never, ever adopt another pet now without going to a shelter to do it. I am a changed woman after seeing this show."

actually, i talked to joanna for about 5 minutes outside after the event while she was texting (i'm guessing andy samberg), and she said she decided to stop playing after two as it was clear the audience wasn't that into it. not sure how many she was slated to play, but it sounds as if she was possibly going to do more.

Oh i just saw this. nyctaper you are truly a hero but I must tell you that you are wrong about this information. I can 100% attest to the fact that Bjork, Matthew and their kids spend most of their time in a beautiful loft in the west part of lower Manhattan. Of course i won't say where you stalker fucks. The reason i know this is because my dearest cousin lives in the apt below them and is good friends with them. They do have a place where you say plus a home in Iceland but it is the loft that is their main residence. And yes I have met and spoke to both Matthew and Bjork a number of times.
