Can't believe for the first time in a long time that it was easy to purchase tickets for something. Got in easy and I am curious about how long it will take to sell out.

Sold out.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 11:58 AM
just got my wilco tix!
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 11:59 AM
Sold out... I got tix at 11:59 and like 30 seconds.

I wonder if Jeff will be his old crank self again. Seems like Nels is really the only reason to see that band these days.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:01 PM
Let the haters start.
Got my tickets. I heart the Wilco.
Posted by meow | April 25, 2008 12:02 PM
got my tix. fuck and yes.
Posted by butternuts | April 25, 2008 12:03 PM
wow it really is sold out
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:04 PM
Got mine.
Wilco intentionally plays small venues, always making sure demand far outstrips supply. Keeps them hip but tickets are always hard to get and scalpers make a fortune.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:04 PM
i just got one at 12:08. keep trying.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:05 PM
got my tickets, fucking FINALLY

"Wilco intentionally plays small venues, always making sure demand far outstrips supply. Keeps them hip but tickets are always hard to get and scalpers make a fortune."
Demand is only high in NYC, Chicago, and sometimes SF. You can easily see Wilco in other cities without all the drama.

yes, I just got two! Was sold out for me before, but not this time.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:07 PM
UGH i tried like 9 times since 12:08 and can't get em.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:07 PM
Well they should some shows now then in NYC?!
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:11 PM
I really like Jim O'Rourke's pants.

Anon 12:06: Not true. Right now Charleston SC is sold out 3 months in advance. Austin and St Louis, sold out. Earlier this year it was impossible to get tickets to Washington DC, New Orleans, and New Haven as well. It's a smart strategy for them as they keep up the illusion of being a hip band, but it shuts out lots of people who want to see them and drives up ticket prices in the secondary market.
And I say this as someone who loves the band and sees them whenever I can.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:14 PM
They should add some more NYC shows! That's what I mean!!
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:18 PM
So 12:14, you're saying it's only an "illusion" that they are a hip band... but they really aren't. It's just their wily marketing strategy. That makes sense.
Posted by mc | April 25, 2008 12:18 PM
didn't wilco play madison square garden a few years ago?
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:20 PM
No tickets. So pissed. Already $100 tickets up on craigslist.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:21 PM
since when was McCarren Pool a small venue?
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:22 PM
impossible germany,
unlikely japan
i still can't escape how little sense those lines make.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:23 PM
I got 2 right at noon.
enough of this wilco bidness ---
Nels tonight!
Posted by beast | April 25, 2008 12:28 PM
whatever other motives, the small-venue strategy is favorable to awesome shows. their smaller shows are much better than the big ones.

"whatever other motives, the small-venue strategy is favorable to awesome shows. their smaller shows are much better than the big ones."
Why didn't I think of that? Wow, you are so intelligent. The world doesn't need Obama, they need you!
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:37 PM
i find it interesting that some of you think the band wants their fans to pay the ridiculous scalper prices.

If you ask me the Wilco fanbase is the total number of people that can fit into The Warsaw and Irving Plaza. People had to line up on a Sat. to get tix for each venue and at the Warsaw (and from what I have heard also at Irving Plaza) nobody was shut out. That's their NYC fan base for the most part.
Add outdoor venue on a Mid Summer evening and demand went way up.
Posted by rescueblues | April 25, 2008 12:52 PM
went to box office to get wilco there at 12
but AEG 'forgot' to allot tix to the box office
there are 1000 tix on hold
fuckin so livid right now
who has my extra :(
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:53 PM
I agree with 12:52 their fanbase are illinois/mid-west transplants. Just like lot of other bands like Hold Steady or National. I bet at least 50 percent of people who show up at those shows are originally from mid-west.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:54 PM
also, Im gonna make an audacious and outrageous statement. I bet you there will be tons of people outside on the day of the show trying to get rid of their extra tickets with no takers.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:56 PM
I will be there with $20 in my hand! I am not sweating I will either get in cheap or just chill in the park nearby and listen. $54 for one ticket is too much!
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 12:59 PM
" I bet at least 50 percent of people who show up at those shows are originally from mid-west."
The point of this statement is?
P.S. I love Wilco and I am from here.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 1:03 PM
I only went to the pool once, for Sonic Youth which was also sold out. There were so many people outside ditching extras for below face it was astonishing. I've never seen anything like it. so don't sweat it. More will go on sale on ticketmaster, for sure, but if all else fails, just show up. I bet you could even get one for free if you hang outside until Wilco actually starts playing
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 1:04 PM
Marketing 101, guys - if you don't satisfy demand, your product becomes more coveted. Wii's, black american express cards, Wilco tickets - it's all the same. Tweedy is a smart guy and he knows this.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 1:08 PM
south carolina is sold out three months in advance because the show was re scheduled for three months later and wilco did play msg new years with flaming lips and sleater kinney and the upper sections were not sold
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 1:10 PM
^^^I really like Jim O'Rourke's pants.
HA! i used to see that fucker every single day at other music. he and his pants. love the guy and miss his drag city records. which he hadn't given up on this country and moved to japan.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 1:32 PM
"went to box office to get wilco there at 12"
Where is the box office? I am interested in getting tickets to other pool shows.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 1:50 PM
yes, they played at the garden with the flaming lips and sleater-kinney a few years ago on new years eve. it was awesome.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 1:53 PM
AEG pool shows box office is Nokia
Bowery pool shows box office is Mercury
i am not sweating it. just pisses me off.

"Tweedy is a smart guy and he knows this."
he's a much better musician than a marketer. if he was as good at marketing himself and his band mates then they would be all over the place. instead they are a quietly sick band with a solid and rabidly dedicated following. and quietly appearing in some v-dub commercials ain't selling out or slyly marketing yourself.
and to the guy who alerts us to the fact they they are a midwest band - i was born in nyc, spent time in VA, back to nyc, now i live in (impossible) germany. am i am thousands of others just anomolies?
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 3:04 PM
i wish i lived in germany. america sucks.

"Wilco intentionally plays small venues, always making sure demand far outstrips supply. Keeps them hip but tickets are always hard to get and scalpers make a fortune."
just a shot in the dark here, but i've heard jeff tweedy explain a theory of his that concerts are, for him, as close to a religious experience as he has experienced. He mentions it in the documentary of his solo tour, the name of which escapes me. So, perhaps Wilco plays small venues not to keep themselves hip, but to ensure that the quality of the experience isn't diminished.
i for one, never bother going to shows, regardless of the artist, at venues like MSG. Smaller venues enhance the performance, in my mind. So perhaps, instead of assuming that Wilco is attempting to manipulate the market for their own gain, you might consider that they're actually making a decision to play small venues despite the market, and with nobody but the fan in mind.
Posted by anonymous | April 25, 2008 3:49 PM
all along i thought tweedy just wanted us to enjoy a show in a fairly intimate setting. i didn't realize i was just a pawn in his clever game to keep supply low and demand high.

There's always Tanglewood. As a person who is going to both MA & NY shows I'm honestly a bit more amped to see them at Tanglewood. Not only is Andrew Bird opening but this more than likely means that he will come out during Wilco's set and rip it up with them.
Posted by JP | April 25, 2008 4:42 PM
i got my tickets from ticketmaster via telephone, and i used the nyc ticketmaster too. yea and yea. for four years i've been trying to see them, each time the dates ended up fucking me in the ass and the shows ended up being sold out. now i can finally, FINALLY, see them live.
Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2008 6:00 PM
if anyone is selling there's please let me know..

Idiot wind.
I bet your'e one of those cool dudes who doesn't have a tv, right?
Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2008 12:49 AM
i am trying to break your heart, is the name of the documentary, it's on the second disc. @349pm
Posted by Anonymous | April 28, 2008 10:43 PM
To the person who says Wilco is quite easy to see
in other places than SF and Chicago- Not exactly
true. I have seen Wilco once in Chicago
three times in Saint Louis and once in Columbia
Missouri. Always a hard ticket to get and always sold out shows!
I just saw them again May 15th and they were awesome. Tweedy for President! Man I do love
me some live Wilco!!!!
