YA HO WHA 13 - NYC tonight (Knitting Factory/Other Music)

It was 1972, time of the cult-occult-commune explosion. By day, the Source Family served organic cuisine to John Lennon, Julie Christie, Frank Zappa and others at the famed Source restaurant. By night, in a mansion in Hollywood Hills, they explored the cosmos through the channeled wisdom of their charismatic leader, Father Yod. Father was an outlandish figure who had 14 "spiritual wives," drove a Rolls-Royce, and fronted the rock band Ya Ho Wha 13, now considered by collectors to be one of the most singular psychedelic bands of all time. This is Ya Ho Wha 13's only planned East Coast performance, and is not to be missed. [KNITTING FACTORY TONIGHT]Tickets are still on sale
ALSO TONIGHT (April 8, 2008)
YA HO WA 13 (Poster/Book and Record Signing): April 8 @ 6:30PMYa Ho Wa 13 also played some West Coast shows in November, which according to Pitchfork, were their first in 30 years.
Members of Father Yod's Source Family will be stopping by Other Music to sign records and copies of the book The Source: The Untold Story of Father Yod, and to share some food made from the family's original recipes before their performance at the Knitting Factory later that night. Surely, to be one of the most unique psychedelic cult bizarro shows of the year!

Doubtful. I mean i love these records and have many of the original pressings but cmon man this is like going to see Radiohead without Thom Yorke. Father Yod is DEAD! Many of the original family members who played on the records are either dead or missing. Key elements to say the least.

missing key elements indeed.

Yeah, this kind of blew.
The meditation part before Ya Ho Wa 13 started w/ the dude w/ the white beard in the robes was the best part of the set - the rest of it was bad wanky jamrock w/ super-loud funk bass.
NNCK were pretty damn great, though....

The best part was actually towards the end of the show, when the huge dude wrote all over the gong with chalk and then put some sort of hex and/or blessing on the audience
