Osheaga

Though the initial lineup has been announced for some time, more bands were recently added to the 3rd Annual Osheaga Music Festival (August 3 & 4, 2008). Spiritualized and The Kills are new additions to the Montreal outdoor music extravaganza that will be headlined by The Killers (on Day 1) and Jack Johnson (on Day 2). Other acts scheduled to appear include Iggy and the Stooges, Cat Power, The Go! Team, MGMT, and Plants and Animals.

MGMT - Kids

A couple of interesting changes are being made for this year's event. The first is the festival, which before was held in late August/early September, has been moved up to August 3rd and 4th. The second, and more quizzical (in my opinion) decision is that the festival will take place on Sunday and Monday instead of Saturday and Sunday. How this will affect turnout on Day 2 will remain to be seen but they did sell out on their reduced priced "early-bird special".

2008 Lineup:

Sunday August 3rd
The Killers
Iggy & the Stooges
Cat Power
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings
Devotchka
Plants and Animals
The National Parcs
Louis XIV
Sebastien Tellier

Monday August 4th

It's a long weekend here in Canada, which explains the Monday date. ;)

If that's the case, I feel stupid :-)

I guess it's obvious that even after living in Montreal a few years, I am still just a visitor.

What is happening on Monday, August 4th? I checked the public holidays on the government website before I wrote the post because, as I did write, the decision seemed head scratching.

it's a long weekend in most of Canada that weekend, but not in Quebec where the festival is held.

I had a great time making the trip up to Montreal last year for the festival, the Park is nice and the fest is well run. It's a shame to have the second date on a Monday, wont make it this year

MGMT, The Kills and The Black Keys - love it!
I guess even though it's a Monday a lot of the bands will be on in the evening/night, so it should still be worth it...

"The first Monday in August is holiday in most of the Provinces and Territories. What you will often find, however, is that its name changes from province to province, and even amongst different regions within a province. On calendars, it is generally labeled as 'Civic Holiday' as not to be region specific. No matter what it is called, it is a much needed long weekend to augment the short Canadian summers."

Canadians are odd.

We will never meet...

Quebec doesn't have this holiday because we have the St.Jean-Baptiste holiday at the end of June.

"it's a long weekend in most of Canada that weekend, but not in Quebec where the festival is held."

My apologies, I assumed it was a Canada-wide holiday. Guess Osheaga is counting on a lot of out-of-province attendance.

FUCKING ANGLOS screweing up again... really, its not a civic holiday ? Quite frankly, it is also a very off day because most headquarters are in Toronto so this means that hipster shit will be replaced by translanted temporary young street trash lawyers and bay street zuit suits wannabees... jack johnson fans basically.

There is some race happening on the saturday right by the festival site, so rather than compete with that noise, they decided on sunday and monday. This is in the FAQs of the festival website.
