Man, that song "Pepper" was pretty sweet. Did they have any other good ones? If so, which songs? I'd definitely consider going.

Posted by Drugs Delaney | May 2, 2008 12:15 PM

dude, are people seriously excited about seeing these douchebags after they sued corey rusk and touch & go? fuck them!

Posted by anon | May 2, 2008 12:18 PM

Sadly, yes. And I am one of them. I 100% think they fucked over Rusk but I need to hear them play Cherub live.

Life is complicated.

"dude, are people seriously excited about seeing these douchebags after they sued corey rusk and touch & go? fuck them!"

I would never buy one of their albums again, but I will see them live.

ANon 12:39pm do not be so conflicted. Fuck Drugs Delaney and Fuck Corey Rusk. The issue was not so cut and dry as people make it out to be. Yes Corey ran the label with oral handshakes and was good to the bands but later on Touch and Go did nothing to really promote their back catalogs. The Butthole Surfers UNLIKE much of the bands on Touch and Go broke big in the late 90's They had a huge hit with "Pepper" and "Who Was in My Room Last NIght". They broke into the mainstream and were on a major label. That being said Touch and Go did not really do anything to keep promoting them and their back catalog. They just sat back and basked in the glory of the bands good fortune and raked in the extra money. Well the band did not feel that the label was earning their keep and so they sued. It was a bad situation all around for both sides. But to call these guys pricks is just stupid.

This was and is one of the best fucking bands ever and they put on amazing shows. Do not miss this show trust me. Bring your bong.

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 12:50 PM

Yeah, because I'm sure if only Corey had spent a bundle more on advertising to effectively cash in, that the top 40 kids who loved some stupid novelty rap song that sounded nothing like anything else in their catalog would have just swept up Cream Corn From the Socket of Davis records and Locust Abortion Technician CDs like they were going out of style.

"Man, that song "Pepper" was pretty sweet. Did they have any other good ones? If so, which songs? I'd definitely consider going."

I like Pepper, but to be honest, it's not that representative of their sound. Go lloking for the albums Locust Abortion Technician and Hairway to Steven. Independent Worm Saloon is good too (especially "Who Was in My Room Last Night").

no paul leary? then its not the surfers, come on, did anyone see them in the late 80's and 90's? they were amazing then,i made the mistake of seeing them on the pepper tour, that record was HORRIBLE,,,,,oh and they did not do cherub then and prob wont now,,,boooooo

Posted by jim | May 2, 2008 2:03 PM

Fuck you. What do you care if some record label dork gets sued? Do you select what you listen to based on what happens in the music business? Idiot. Don't mess with Texas.

Posted by Tex | May 2, 2008 2:45 PM

The Butthole Surfers rules!!! GibbbbBBBBYYYYYY!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 5:30 PM

no paul leary - no cigar. At least not for $35+ fees.

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 6:13 PM

Anon 1:14pm-Who knows if kids would have flocked to those records with the right promotion. I mean look at half the shit losers on this blog listen to. The point is the band wanted the right to explore that option to their satisfaction and since they are the ones who created the work.....you do the math. Not to mention the fact that they were a very hard working band and to call them greedy is just wrong. They were not much about profit anyway. Every dime they made basically went into buying more equipment and recording gear. If you have ever seen pictures of the recording rooms at Butthole Ranch in Texas it was amazing what they put together.

Anon 1:36pm-the guy making the comment about Pepper was being sarcastic you fucknut.

Anon 2:03pm-I agree that Paul is an integral part of that band but no one knows if he is going to show or not. It is still TBD. And the pepper tour was totally ridiculous. Forget Paul, they had this guy Nathan playing bass instead of Jeff Pinkus and of course no Teresa. This show is 4/5 of the great band and maybe the complete lineup. Going to be worth it either of those. Hopefully Paul will show but he is going through some shit right now and he has to do what he feels is best for him.

Anon 12:50 and 6:19--that you, Gibby?

Posted by Hal Incandenza | May 2, 2008 6:54 PM

"Anon 12:50 and 6:19--that you, Gibby?"

it is funny because it is true.

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 8:54 PM

Hairway to Steven was released in 1988.

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 9:21 PM

As far as I know, from a very good source, Paul will not playing any of the shows, and all of the shows will feature Gibby/King/Jeff/Teresa and about 10 School of Rock kids. The billing as "Butthole Surfers" (with no mention of the School of Rock component) is deliberately misleading in order to get more people to buy tickets. From what I gather, this misleading promotion is being orchestrated by Gibby, who doesn't care if people ultimately feel screwed so long as the shows move tickets.

Now these shows could still be fun, but they are NOT real Butthole Surfers shows. It's a shame that the promotion for them isn't up-front about that. Be forewarned, but have fun anyway.

Sad young'uns. I'm surprised anybody round here gives shits for Buttholes. But, yr sad cuz y'wrnt there in 85/86. They played every shithole in the EV. Twice.

I don't like doing anybody any favors but you should read the Azerarrad book. The half that isn't lies (ie stuff told by Kramer) is true. And you weren't there.

Great band. We missed ya, kiddies.

Now all you get to see is the Shills or Vampire Wolf Doody. And "Hey We Got Butthole Surfers Ringtones!" Good times!

Surfers v. Rusk? Sad falling out amongst friends. Everybody's got a beef, but at some point a band should own their masters. A handshake and a promise don't pay the rent. You think that crap sells itself?

I'm glad I'm old. I'll be staying home that night. Just like your dad. And he's not as cool as me. Cuz he wasn't at the shows 25 years ago. Just like you wouldn't have been if you were more than a percolating result of hard won fucking by then. Your moms sucks, too.

Posted by Anonymous | May 4, 2008 12:30 AM

I was wrong above (May 3, 12:27). Paul WILL be at the Webster Hall show, and he MIGHT play the other US dates.

All shows are still with the School of Rock kids, though. There will be something like 15 people onstage at all times. Could be cool, could be crap.

Posted by Anonymous | May 4, 2008 8:11 PM

Pinkus on bass? That is all fine but they need that guy from the Independent Worm Saloon tour he was the bomb on bass. Hopefully Leary, too how could that be the Buttholes without him?

Posted by Mr Butt Whole | May 6, 2008 1:29 PM

so if its not paul who is it? and is this "school of rock" thing comin to england? this is the first time im seeing them, almost had a fucking heart attack! thought age was against me but what is the kids thing about?

Posted by Curley | May 9, 2008 1:35 PM

School of Rock is an organization that brings a bunch of musically-proficient kids together to play with older, established musicians. Gibby did a tour with them a few months ago, with the kids playing Buttholes tunes. At every show there are between 10 and 20 kids who rotate playing various instruments. For these Buttholes shows -- even the one in NYC with Leary -- there will be 5-6 kids onstage playing with the Buttholes at all times. Personally, I don't like the idea, especially for the NYC show where you have the full classic lineup already. But for some reason Gibby thinks it's a great idea. For the Europe and UK shows it'll be the band minus Paul, plus all the kids. I'm holding out for a hoped-for tour of the classic Buttholes lineup, minus the kiddies. No sense diluting my (admittedly hazy) memories of all the great insane Buttholes shows I saw in the '80s and early '90s.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2008 2:59 PM

As long as Leary is present, I think the kid idea is a great idea. They could use the youthful enthusiasm and it surely takes the pressure off. I'm sure it is just about the only way they would even consider playing out. That said, my son is just a little too young to attend and so I do not know if I want to go on my own, as an old fan.

Posted by peter | May 11, 2008 12:05 PM

As an addendum to the above, I didn't realize the show was 18+. I thought it was geared for younger kids. I'm in, man. Ought to be a blast. I almost prefer this to a straight reunion. They might actually smile...something they haven't done in some 15 years.

Posted by peter | May 11, 2008 12:36 PM

is Gibby touring with 'em in the UK anyone know ????

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2008 12:27 PM

Yes. In the UK the lineup is Gibby, King, Teresa, and Pinkus, plus all the School of Rock kids. So far the only date Paul is playing is NYC, but it still involves all the kids, which is kind of a bummer. I'd like my Butthole undiluted, thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2008 7:29 PM

So even if they have these kids with them, it'll still be actual Butthole Surfers songs? And does anyone know what sorta songs they've been playing on this tour? I know it's the '80s line-up so probably some stuff form the first few albums, but I also really wanna hear stuff like Dog Inside Your Body, Pepper and Who Was In My Room Last Night?

Posted by Anonymous | June 24, 2008 11:05 PM

the show was amazing..saw it last night.
the kids with them are SO GOOD~ super talented..
GO SEE IT.
best show I've seen in years.

Posted by jen | June 27, 2008 8:03 AM

errr...

anonymous just repeated what i said...they were originally billed as SoR shows with Butthole Surfers, and Paul was not confirmed, even to KING, until about a week before the Asbury gig...

Whilst the Anal Obsession IS a database of shows, it is also fully sanctioned, with news coming directly from the band pretty often...it also contains release dates fer much of the discography and band\fan stories, set lists...i'd say it's a pretty damned comprehensive site...but, i'm a bit biased...

Anywho, they were SoR shows WITH Paul, and they were fukkin brilliant!
