Good for them. It's great seeing small bands doing their thing and not having to go into Bushwick.

Love this space. Had many a perfect night there- cupcakes, whiskey, noise bands, nothing better. Long live Cake Shop!

Does anyone have the start times for bands? OAKLEY HALL!!

Posted by little gonorrhea secret | May 2, 2008 3:21 PM

I've enjoyed seeing bands at Cake Shop too on those rare occasions when you can actually see the band.

i love the place...but one suggestion...

please invest in a new(er) sound system

fuck bushwick

Hey Nick, let me know if you are serious and need any help. I have been looking for places in south slope, but couldn't find anything. I am willing to invest some time and possibly money to get things going.

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 3:38 PM

Cake Shop and Union Hall = worst venues in NYC.

Posted by TWB | May 2, 2008 4:03 PM

congrats to andy and co. its a minor miracle that a place like this exists where it does.

"Cake Shop and Union Hall = worst venues in NYC."

^^^^you're just upset cuz they are no longer stoller friendly...go bugaboo yourself

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 4:16 PM

I have no money but its a good idea. Theres some warehouses over on 3rd and 2nd ave in sunset park that are around $2500 for 2000 sqf. If you get 10 or so people to invest it would be relativly cheap.

It also would work since not everyone can go the 45min haul to bushwick from places in south brooklyn.

"It also would work since not everyone can go the 45min haul to bushwick from places in south brooklyn."

Yeah like the Hook

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 5:10 PM

yeah

sucks its gone

It takes more than an hour to get to Bushwick with all the service disruptions at night or on the weekend (when shows are on).

Thankfully you have places like Cake Shop and the Knitting Factory which makes Bushwick avoidable. Will still like to see a DIY place.

I agree. Union hall and southpaw are cool but dont have the freedom many of the bushwick places have. Im suprised more hasnt popped up in bedstuy and crown heights along with sunset park.

Posted by nick | May 2, 2008 5:46 PM

1. A venue in Sunset Park = a dream of mine as well. It's a good neighborhood and easy to get to via train.

2. Cake Shop would be amazing...if it was all ages.

LALs upcoming Holy is supposedly a Sick record

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 7:11 PM

yeah cake shop is a cool place but they don't let me see shows there...i understand the high rent and all that but i think i still have a right to be pretty sad

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 7:42 PM

why are the majority of shows there 21 and over?

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 8:04 PM

the cost of maintaining a space there

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 8:22 PM

because it's a BAR you fucking minors!!

wait your damn turn to be 21+, just like everybody else, gah

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 8:24 PM

yean once you actually turn 21 yourself you don't want minors there anyways.

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 8:46 PM

I like cake-shop but it is almost impossible to see anything unless directly in front of band.

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2008 1:08 AM

We look forward to playing Cakeshop. We go on at 5:00 PM.

Posted by Daft Punk | May 3, 2008 3:35 AM

yeah, open a place in Sunset Park.
the space could be off the hook

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2008 12:55 PM

i passed by this place yesterday afternoon not knowing what it was exactly. Being from out of town and new to the city, it really fucking stood out from the rest of the creatively inept concepts that the lower east side has to offer in terms of bars/cafes. Its great. A fucking record store that lets you get drunk in it? I'd never have to go home.

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2008 5:55 PM

anon from may 2 @ 3:38, i doubt you (or anybody) are still reading this thread, but if you are serious about trying to open up a venue i'd be interested in talking with you. seriously, i also would be willing to invest some time and maybe some money. let me know
