am i the only person who's going to the site and having it freak the fuck out?
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 12:45 PM
I'm amused that the contest rules say the tickets have no value. By the way, they say that 3,500 pairs of tickets will be awarded, so I guess it's at the WaMu Theatre.
There's a grand prize of "an all-expenses-paid trip to the show from anywhere in the world" (though the contest is open only to U.S. residents). That opens up the possibility of lots of winners of tickets not being able to make it to the show.

"am i the only person who's going to the site and having it freak the fuck out?"
What operating system and Web browser are you using? It worked fine for me with Windows XP and I.E.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 12:53 PM
Do you all think the Philly tix will sell out? I am considering buying them because I probably will not win for MSG... but I imagine they will be expensive, so I hope I can resell. Thanks...

"am i the only person who's going to the site and having it freak the fuck out?"
That's happening to me too, both Firefox and IE - none of the links work and it's flashing madly between Brixton and MSG.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 12:55 PM
Cool, I signed up. Better than going to the IZOD Center and having to take the bus out to Jersey. However, have a feeling this is one of those things where if your persistent enough and show up outside, you can probably find a way in.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 12:56 PM
Not working at all for me.
Posted by Michael | May 9, 2008 1:00 PM
Does anyone have a direct link to the signup page? I can't see the page either, sometimes it's blank or freaking out...
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:01 PM
they're only giving out 7000 tickets? so i'm guessing what, guestlist for the other 10,000? does everyone at emi and their mother get a ticket?
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:02 PM
apparantly, from hearsay, you need to "unlock" the videos, why? i don't know, because you are signing up for a chance to win, so why the unlocking crap? I don't get it. =(
Why cant we just all show up at MSG and first come, first serve.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:11 PM
1000 points to BV for using that picture for this post. Funny as hell.

You don't need to unlock anything or view any videos to enter the contest. But when I submitted my info it said an e-mail would get sent to me and I haven't gotten it yet. Just like the first couple of times I requested the free mp3 and I didn't get the e-mail with the link.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:30 PM
the email takes about ten minutes to arrive.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:31 PM
Maybe you need to have the latest version of the Flash player for the site to work.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:35 PM
Got the email for the free song and shit never worked....Now, I get some SERIOUS spam since signing up. It's called list management people! sign up and expect to get emails from third parties out the wazoooo!
Record labels are going down the toilet, they have to revert to this?!?
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:36 PM
It took about 30 minutes for my confirmation email to arrive.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:44 PM
free is WAY too expensive
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:44 PM
I can't believe they didn't limit the drawing to people living within a certain distance of MSG.
How many people in Boise and Milwaukee will win tickets and not use them?
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 1:57 PM
scalpers from everywhere will buy tix and resell them. these concert promoters are either really dumb or they're getting a cut.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 2:12 PM
I got serious spam also after the coldplay download too. Totally raped my email. UGH
Posted by Mike | May 9, 2008 2:18 PM
Anon 1:11
MSG is in a heavy foot-traffic area. The businesses around there and city workers probably just don't want a bunch of Coldplay minions hanging around taking up space. I mean, it's already a disaster over there w/Penn Station.
Anon 1:44,
Let's hope that is why they have you put in your zip code (though, I suppose anyone could enter a New York-area zip code).
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 2:31 PM
I submitted my info around 12:50PM and I still haven't received the e-mail.
I don't know what Anon. 1:36PM and Mike 2:18PM are bitching about. I didn't experience an increase in spam after I requested the free mp3.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 2:38 PM
@ Anon 2:31
HAHAHAH @ MSG is a "heavy foot-traffic area". Have you been in NYC for more than a few hours for such a profound statement?
BTW - about 8 blocks north of MSG is also a "heavy foot-traffic area". The locals call it "Times Square", its a "disaster" because of the tourists and subways.
DUDE...WTF???
That was seriously one of the funniest things I've ever read on the Internet. And by funny I mean retarded.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 2:49 PM
Wait, is the guy in the photo wearing a Boston Red Sox World Champions cap? Take it down, BV!
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 2:50 PM
Anon 2:49
I think it's pretty clear that Anon@2:31 was talking about the MSG area being crowded enough with all the commuters going in & out of Penn Station... and that the city probably wouldn't want tens of thousands more people clogging the area as they line up for free Coldplay tickets. (B/c the comment was in response to someone suggesting a first come, first served system for the free concert.)
I'm not sure what you thought he/she meant.
Posted by Matt | May 9, 2008 2:59 PM
Have you ever seen the crowd for Phish shows there? Pretty much take over 7th avenue. I think New Yorkers know a thing or two about crowds. Get real.
Calling Penn a disaster is laughable.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 3:08 PM
Site's not working at ALL for me either. I guess I will try from Firefox when I get home.
Posted by Gwin | May 9, 2008 3:23 PM
got an email saying winners will be notified on June 5
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 3:30 PM
I live near MSG and not only is there a lot of foot traffic, but the noise is horrible. I've been trying to have the place shut down for years.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 3:30 PM
I remember waiting in line for 12 hours for Prince tickets (Lovesexy tour). That was back when people were human (and vice versa) and it was fun. Boomboxes, dancing... I guess nowadays the commuters wouldn't stand for such behaviour?
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 3:37 PM
"Wait, is the guy in the photo wearing a Boston Red Sox World Champions cap? Take it down, BV!"
My thoughts exactly, and he's holding World Series tickets! Please, take that down!
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 3:43 PM
Yankees suck!
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 3:44 PM
You d-bag Yankee fans should run that Sox fan over.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 4:01 PM
Anon 2:49,
I'm missing the joke. I KNOW that MSG has heavy foot-traffic. We all do. Not sure what you're getting at here.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 4:22 PM
I got flo' seats! I got flo' seats!
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 4:49 PM
why would someone in Boise or Milwaukee enter a contest for a free show they can't even attend? that shit makes no sense.
likewise, why would someone that doesn't live in NYC but know that 11385 is a NYC zip code, enter a contest for a free show... they can't even ATTEND!?
no. sense.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 4:55 PM
there's this thing called craigslist that allows people to sell items, such as concert tickets, for money...dumbass
no. sense.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 5:03 PM
guys in dockers everywhere are having a crying fit right now...
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 5:12 PM
Smug a-hole at 4:55
If they limited the drawing to locals and they made you pick up the tickets in person, thus making you produce some ID with proof of being local, the problem would be averted.
They could have also made you pick up the tickets at some local location instead of giving out the tickets online. You give out bracelets with the tickets and you need the bracelet and the ticket to enter MSG)
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 5:29 PM
re: the area around MSG and concerts.
Point #1. I've seen at least 20 Garden shows where when the Grateful Dead played the entire area around 7th and 34th for blocks became tie-dye nation.
Point #2. Coldpay is big. But so were The Stones, The Eagles, The Who, Garth Brooks, U2, NSYNC, The Boss, YES, Miley Cyrus, The Concert For Bagladesh, MUSE (for like a whole week), The Democratic National Conventions, The Moonie Weddings, Ali/Frazer 1&2,... in other words, there's nothing Madison Square Garden or the area around it that hasn't been seen and can't handle.
Posted by TheBuzzMan | May 9, 2008 6:02 PM
OF COURSE the Garden has played host to many a huge bands whilst managing foot traffic on the street. But you're all missing the point of the original comment. This person was saying that it'd be chaotic if they allowed people to wait in line for free tickets AT the Garden on a first come first served basis! (B/c Anon@1:11pm proposed doing that instead of distributing the tickets over the Internet.)
It was meant to imply that the area is crazy enough without tens of thousands of people lining up around the corner to wait all day for free concert tickets. (Unless it's Neil Diamond & only draws 61 people! Oye!)
The word "disaster" was used to describe the area on a regular basis, which clearly was an overstatement, but the poster was really making reference to the congestion that the first come, first served situation would bring about. We all know that the MSG area can handle big crowds of ticketholders before & after a concert.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 6:29 PM
Oh...well then, never mind.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 6:54 PM
Was having the same problem with coldplay competition pages. Downloaded most recent shockwave update and it worked fine.
Posted by brian | May 9, 2008 7:05 PM
anon 5:29
are you with me or against me?
that ID reasoning is the point i was making about people buying that aren't near NYC.
they'll have to check IDS, which means you can't buy a ticket if you're name isn't attached to it.
5:03
first of all, fuck you for mocking me.
second, i know what craigslist is and AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN, YOU CANNOT SELL A TICKET AND EXPECT SOMEONE TO BUY IT IF YOUR NAME IS ATTACHED TO IT.
you're a dumbass.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 9:32 PM
I'm glad everything is cleared up now.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 10:06 PM
Other shows are $50-$99 on Ticketmaster. Ouch.
Looks like I'll be banking on these free ones.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 11:09 PM
I *still* haven't received an e-mail after entering the contest, even after I entered again about 40 minutes ago.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 11:27 PM
Has anyone worked out how to unblock the page Mine just flashes and I can't click on anything or do anything. I have the latest version of Flash so I don't think it's that.
Posted by Tammy | May 10, 2008 7:46 AM
use gmail.
it works pretty quickly on there.
Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2008 11:43 AM
I still have nothing.
Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2008 12:21 PM
Yeah, I signed up yesterday at around 12:45pm & I still haven't received an e-mail confirmation (all my friends did, when I forwarded them the link after I signed up). And I use Hotmail.
Posted by Matt | May 10, 2008 2:12 PM
I tried again this afternoon using my Yahoo Mail address and got the e-mail. Fuck you, AOL.
Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2008 11:33 PM
Does the email say you have tickets or do you have do anything further. I still did not get anything?
Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2008 8:03 PM
The email sends you a link to "verify" your request to be entered into the ticket lottery, and you have to click it in order to be added officially.
Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2008 11:33 AM
I entered...not holding my breath...im going to nyc to go see a better band on the 24th and 25th at MSG anyway...sure I have to pay for the tickets but since they have the best fan club around im
guaranteed good seats without any hassle....coldplay isnt doing their fans any favors by having this "free" concert...few will win...the rest of the tickets will be in promoters hands raping the new yorkers trying to get into the show....coldplays way of getting the spotlight...too bad Radiohead are the real pioneers
Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2008 2:26 PM
Haven't got a confirmation e-mail yet for the free tickets. Anybody else the same
Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2008 5:18 PM
I didn't get one... :(
Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2008 9:03 PM
Did you check spam folder?
Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2008 9:14 PM
Hi everyone who gave out their email addresses to Coldplay's Free Ticket Giveaway.
I have collected all your emails in bulk to sell to vendors at discount rates, who will be emailing you for many years with great and powerful offers.
I will also give them for free to many Nigerians.
Thank you my dear friends.

Ummm maybe im just a little clueless, but where exactly do you sign-up? i got to the part of the site where it said thank you for signing up now please watch our terribly streamed videos and i cant find the actual spot to enter my information. If anyone could email me the link that'd be great.
Posted by Help Me | May 28, 2008 6:44 AM
I also can't figure out how to sign up anymore. Maybe the sign up is over even though the rules said May 31st? Anyone else have this problem or figure it out?
Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2008 1:24 PM
It appears that everyone is having that problem which means that the contest is probably over. See http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45404
Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2008 1:42 PM
I'm pretty sure the sign-up period is over. Sorry, suckas. You might still have a chance for Barthelona, though...
Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2008 2:00 PM
Going to Spain might be cheaper than getting tickets and going to Hartford - and more fun.
I noticed that the NJ sale seems to have been canceled.
Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2008 3:49 PM
why would anyone pay to see coldplay?
Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2008 11:47 PM
just got confirmation of a pair by TicketFast! Feels great to get something from Ticketmaster that didnt cost an arm and a leg.
Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2008 6:41 PM
Yeah! Got my email tonight. Hello eBay!
Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2008 8:46 PM
I got mine. Looks liek it's at Wamu Theatre @ MSG. I'm so psyched!
Posted by Kelly | June 3, 2008 8:49 AM
...people are getting their winning emails now? It's not even June 5th.
Posted by Matt | June 3, 2008 12:48 PM
"I got mine. Looks liek it's at Wamu Theatre @ MSG. I'm so psyched!"
Where'd you hear that?
Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 12:55 PM
These people are all full of shit. Nobody got their confirmation emails yet, just emails saying whether you won or not. From the winner notification email:
"Order confirmations will be generated on or around June 6th and shipping confirmations will be generated on or about June 10th."
Posted by Coldplay Bra | June 3, 2008 1:01 PM
I will believe it either after June 5th or when I see something for sale on Stubhub or Craigslist. Nothing yet.
Posted by Anonymous | June 3, 2008 1:12 PM
I got the e-mail and it made my SHIIVVVERRRRRR. What a great "I just graduated from college and I'm temporarily unemployed" gift. Thanks, Coldplay!

I'm worried about buying tix from someone and then not being let in. How does their anti-scalper system work?
Posted by Monkey | June 18, 2008 12:11 PM
HOW DO YOU GET FREE TICKETS???
Posted by Alex | June 19, 2008 1:49 AM
I just got an e-mail from Ticketbastard saying that "premium seats" for Coldplay's U.S. shows (not the free one tonight, obviously) are currently up for bid in an online auction (that ends June 30 at 12 PM -- doesn't specify the time zone).
