Im From Barcelona @ Coacehlla

I'm From Barcelona (who are actually from Sweden) went from Hoboken to California to play Coachella (and 2 other shows) and then back to the east coast to play a show at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple in (duh) Brooklyn last night (May 1, 2008). The pictures in this post are from the Coachella one. More below....

fun show, but damn the sound was horrible. They have 15 or so members but it just sounded like a four piece garage band

The cover was "Like A Prayer"

The Balloons & red outfits look like a good gimmick. I'm glad to see so many hipsters having fun. Is it considered un-cool to not attend shows like this? Please let me know so I can take note of your thoughts...

I thought this was not very good at all.

I first had some trouble getting over all of the Boost Mobile marketing. I was suspicious of all of the photographers roaming around and guessed that we were extras in a modile phone commercial. I got my picture taken a couple of times and I guess I can now go to the Boost Mobile website to view them. I think we were there over an hour before the first(of 2) bands took the stage.

The first band had an OK sound but it seemed like it was a much weaker version of many other bands I've heard. They tried unsuccessfully maybe 6 times to get the crowd to clap along. The singer seemed to be trying to look more intense than the music by shaking her hair around alot. I bet it will look great in the photographs though.

My friend thought I would like "I'm from Barcelona" because I kinda liked the Polyphonic Spree. He was wrong. Before this band even started, the night was already about how many distractions were preventing me from getting into the music. This band took the distraction to new heights with giant pink balloons, lots of confetti, lots of Swedishness, this little fat man in a cape and a conga line through the audience. I'm not saying that I don't like big balloons, confetti and fat swedish men because I do. I'm just saying that this was not a good concert.

But, there were plenty of people that seemed to be enjoying it.. so, of course, I could be way off. Maybe it was all one big parody and i'm too dense to get it.

How does this band make any money?? They have 18 people on stage...that means 18 round trip tickets to fly across the country and back, 18 mouths to feed, and 18 beds to provide. I love their shows, but they are usually at smaller venues, and I can't imagine they would make that much money playing places like Southpaw and The Independent all the time.

I don't think they really make any money. But they get lots of vacation time in Sweden. It's a socialist country, afterall. But if I could take a few months' vacation and travel around with a dozen friends playing music, and just break even, I would do it in a heartbeat. They seem to enjoy it.

what a fucking joke this band is

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2008 2:34 PM

what a fucking joke your mother is.

I figured it out. With other bands it's all about them. With I'm From Barcelona it's all about you.
