nothing too exciting but itll be nice to have a decent venue within walking distance of my apt.

Posted by Anonymous | May 22, 2008 2:21 PM

that looks kind of intriguing. i would be interested in that bill frisell show if not for the price tage

Posted by howard p. flochango | May 22, 2008 2:43 PM

Who's booking it?

Posted by Anonymous | May 22, 2008 2:49 PM

Something fishy about this place...

Posted by drewo | May 22, 2008 2:52 PM

hope these guys lose lots and lots of money

"Something fishy about this place..."

Rimshot!

Posted by "traps" mcgee | May 22, 2008 3:04 PM

why so negative. oh yeah. i am on BV...

Posted by Anonymous | May 22, 2008 3:06 PM

why so negative? because this is an upscale club for douchebags! Shows that would otherwise have happened relatively affordably, for regular people, will now be the exclusive domain of wealthy dumbfucks who enjoy vip status and bottle service - all vacuous status symbols intended to underscore who's excluded, not included.

the negativity has nothing to do with Brooklyn Vegan, this time. It's justified and appropriate in this case.

Wow, 3:23 PM, massive assumptions you're making there.

Posted by clef | May 22, 2008 3:50 PM

Terribly incorrect assumptions too.
The place is being booked by the guy who has done the amazing Wordless series of concerts. And by the looks of the schedule, he's keeping up the eclectic but somehow totally appropriate mix of talent -- Frisell, Rickie Lee, Havens, Soulive, Jonathan Kane, Matmos, Marco Benevento.

"this is an upscale club for douchebags! Shows that would otherwise have happened relatively affordably, for regular people, will now be the exclusive domain of wealthy dumbfucks"

really? i don't know... i'm looking at the prices for these shows:
$15 for nina nastasia/jim white/tren bros
$14 for damon & naomi/batoh & espvall
$20 student tickets for rickie lee jones (!)

sounds like the dumbfuck might be you.

Posted by Anonymous | May 22, 2008 4:41 PM

my what a horrible, horrible name that is.

Posted by Anonymous | May 22, 2008 5:03 PM

Agreed, not sure wtf the people who own that place were thinking with the name

"this is an upscale club for douchebags! Shows that would otherwise have happened relatively affordably, for regular people, will now be the exclusive domain of wealthy dumbfucks"

An unusually high percentage of the door goes directly to the musicians performing, so I guess if you have a problem supporting artists, then you might be opposed to paying for shows.

Posted by clef | May 22, 2008 5:29 PM

Looks like JVC is dictating the shows and pricing for most of the shows listed. Lets see what happens after JVC.

I walked into the room today to check it out. Too many columns. Reminds me of the old village gate....

I live upstairs and I'm not really looking forward to another club at this location.

The Sullivan room rocks!!!

i just want to know how anyone has enough money to sink into another downtown music venue these days, sheesh... wish i had a trust fund.

Posted by Anonymous | May 23, 2008 9:37 AM

What is wrong with you people? I went to see Rickie Lee Jones last night and she was amazing! The space is beautiful, the drinks were reasonable, and you could hear a pin drop during her performance. If you consider paying $20 for a student ticket to see Rickie Lee Jones too pricey and thus left to the alleged "wealthy dumbfucks" then I would say your problem is deeper rooted than the price of a ticket. Perhaps you should channel all the negativity into something productive, like, let's say, finding a job.
