Seriously, BV, why the hell do you keep even mentioning her? She's a waste of time. And anyone who pays that much for a dance review involving minimal live performance deserves to be parted from their money.
Carrie Brownstein summed it up best on her NPR blog:
"As I mentioned in another blog entry, I mostly think of Madonna as a brand. She is someone who will do anything to seem current, so much so that everything she does reeks of disingenuousness and desperation.
Madonna goes beyond the usual banality and sterility of contemporary pop. Now and again, I'll hear a pop song on the radio and be able to enjoy it as a guilty pleasure. But I can't say that I am drawn to Madonna in that way, she takes herself too seriously. And even that would be tolerable if she weren't so artistically gutless.
Or maybe it is just the phenomenon of Madonna that perplexes me. I am but one of thousands of people writing about her this month. Madonna inserts herself into the collective imagination every few years and it always feels like some natural disaster from which we have to recover."

How old is this bird?
I am sure that she would sell out shul with a Kabalah reading. But I would not spend that much coins to watch this old train move.$354 is way too
pricey.Even if she dances the nasty with Justin.

Bad idea booking 3 shows in the NYC area. As much as Kanye bothers me, he did it correctly. You book one show to drive up demand. Makes you seem a whole lot more important than you actually are to play one sold out show that no one can get tickets to than to play three "sold out" shows where any chump can walk up and get into for 20 bucks.

I will be that chump walking in for $20! Thanks Madge...add more shows please!

I think it's a disgrace that she is not only taking hard earned money from her fans, but is also in bed with StubHub to make even MORE money when tickets are re-sold there.
I'd rather go to almost 20 shows at Bowery Ballroom then pay to see her do a majority of songs from a shit album.

to anonymous that mentioned madonna being inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame... and then mention disco ruling as the reason... please. why then, were donna summer and nile rodgers passed over, who clearly helped to define the era? why is sylvester not in there? why is patrick cowley not in there? etc. using disco as the reason she was inducted is frustrating to the seventies disco lovers like me, it's her brand that helped.
sorry for the rant, i just tend to bristle to all the endless madonna worship, especially when mentioning disco, as she was an afterthought in that realm.
and to clarify, i am not a madonna hater.

She is a material girl living in a material world...

So roughly $800 to see a 50 year old lipsynch with a bunch of the faggiest fags in New York squealing like teenagers?
I'll take waterboarding instead, thank you.

without nile rogers there would b no material girl.
i just wish she'd take a little more time with her albums these days....like, work a little harder on those lyrics.
but there should b no question as to why madonna was inducted. she defines an era (not the disco 70s), but the early 80s, one that anyone making dance music today is still trying to recapture.
everyone here needs to search hard on the internet for an album called "pre-madonna". it was put out by her long time writing partner and producer, Steven Brae. Its a collection of songs they did together while living in the studio in midtown and it has the original versions of burning up and everybody, and its the best shit she recorded. ill give you a hint, we just uploaded it to "what".

for 350 she better do happy endings
Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2008 11:09 AM
if guy ritchie pays her $350, will she give him back his balls?
Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2008 11:18 AM
Donna Summer should be in the hall of fame. Although Hall of Fame, that is all bullshit. She is in my personal hall of fame.

re: isla: i personally wish that folks had paid more attention to ms. grace jones in the eighties dance scene... 'nightclubbing' is still one of the fiercest records, dance related, that came out in the eighties. and, one man show, the video docu of her jean-paul goude produced tour is legendary. she deserves just as much endless ass kissing as madge.

I love Sleater-Kinney and saw them many times live. However Carrie is not one tenth the musician (yes, musician) Madonna is.

Madonna is to music what According to Jim is to TV
Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2008 3:11 PM
$350 is better spent on hookers and blow.
