"Maybe Brooklyn isn't the best place for someone who has a life-threatening allergy to bar noise?"
David Cross & Eugene Mirman @ Union Hall, July 15, 2007 (Bryan Bruchman)

The title of this post is part of a quote Euguene Mirman gave Gothamist to follow up on the earlier pissed off neighbors post.
----
Ohbijou & Takka Takka play Union Hall tonight (May 9)
Eugene Mirman plays Union Hall almost every Sunday, and he will be performing at a benefit at Southpaw on June. Southpaw is in the same Park Slope neighborhood as Union Hall. Southpaw is where Zombieville is tonight. The neighbors claim they feel like zombies from the lack of sleep they get by living hear Union Hall.
The Instruments play their instruments at Union Hall later this month (hopefully not too loud).
Delta Spirit are playing Union Hall in June.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 3:02 PM
In a van down by the river
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 3:12 PM
according to that article, he lives "around the corner"

What a twit. So where should we move Eugene, now that "Brooklyn" is now for people to open up large venues and their customers to do as they wish? Especially when they don't open on the commercial avenue, but a more residential one. Sorry, I'll ask you which borough is okay next time I have to move.
Hope you live in a place on a nice quiet street somewhere....

i live in sunset park near a strip of bars that are rowdy. on weekends people fight, smash bottles, etc.
seems the police are routinely called.
no shut down of the bars though.
what is the difference?
i have to live with it- why don't they?

To the country where you belong. You can ban liquor, dancing, sex before marriage, "coloreds", whatever you want. Just watch Fox News all day in your peaceful community.

Eugene, A COMEDIAN, is being funny and sarcastic while referring to the fact that these people are over-dramatically claiming to be physically affected by the noise. His point is that if they are SO ALLERGIC TO NOISE, then why don't they move to Kansas or something.
It's a good point that obviously went over your head.

uh, yeah, just because I think there should be a balance between the those who think they deserve their nightlife and those who want to find a way to deal with this situation of nightlife sprawl. I guess you've sussed me out, back to O'Reilly for me and remember put a condom on that Pabst before you drink it, genius. And don't wear a helmet on your single speed.

In a perfect world, Eugene Mirman would be crowned King of Brooklyn, where he would sit upon a throne of crotchety neighbors' skulls.

@3:21PM
Union Hall is just about on Union Street very close to 5th Avenue. 5th is a very big commercial street especially at night as there are a ton of bars and restaurants near that intersection. Union St is the busiest cross street in the neighborhood. You'd be kidding yourself to move onto that street and not expect some noise.

and what about ice cream trucks?

I like ice cream

why doesn't anyone blame the local police for not enfocing the law. Shouldn't the police be responsible for keeping people from being disruptive regardless of whether they came from Union Hall or Barnes & Noble. Union Hall are not the police... they shouldn't be expected to keep people from making noise once they've left the vicinity of their front entrance.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 4:34 PM
hey BV, post something else on this subject so we can rehash this matter for the third time, same arguments and all.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 4:50 PM
Mirman is an arrogant fuckwad of David Cross proportions. You'd fucking move allright.

In fact, the police are called there ALL THE TIME and in fact, they've never issued a violation because there IS NO NOISE! This whole thing is ridiculous!! The callers should be arrested for false reporting of "crimes", God forbid, something bad happens, while they are rounding up smokers from Union Hall's sidewalk for talking too loud.

Why don't the police just keep everybody from having any fun, whether or not they're being loud, doing anything illegal or anything else? I mean, there's always the possibility that someone might get carried away, so better to be on the safe side and break out the preemptive billy clubs. Really I wish everybody would start smoking crack and killing each other again so the cops and community boards would have something better to do then ruin everybody else's good time.

a friend of mine lives next to a guy who has pit bulls in his back yard.
way worse.
Posted by nick | May 9, 2008 5:28 PM
Well, ya know...I take it back. Mirman made something happen there with his comedy shows and it's kind of his living. I don't blame him.

I love reading the aggro comments on this site. Judging from 90% of the comments living in Brooklyn sounds like a total nightmare.
Just move to Los Angeles. Yup, there are still tons of douchey hipsters (mmmm...probably more), but at least there is more room...and amazing Mexican food...beautiful women...better weather...better music...the desert...

^^^And no mass transit to speak of, so you have to own a car and drive everywhere.
Posted by Fuck L.A. | May 9, 2008 6:48 PM
L.A. is the only place I would want to be less than I want to be in Brooklyn.
Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2008 9:16 PM
Is anyone forgetting about the general lameness of the Park Slope region as a whole. Of course, the same douchebag PHD candidates and stroller-pushers that drink and eat at the bar who also complain about the noise. That’s Park Slope. Sorry but it sucks. Please take off the Brooklyn t-shirts.

if Union Hall gets shut down... I'm going to be riding my Harley past those rich pricks houses repeatedly late at night. Oh... it's fucking loud. I encourage you all to find passive ways to disrupt these self-entitled "neighbors" however possible. Be careful not to get arrested though...
